Believe it or not, The Mask was originally conceived as a full-on horror film!
In 1994’s The Mask, Jim Carrey plays Stanley Ipkiss, an ordinary man who becomes something extraordinary when an ancient mask attaches itself to his face. In this year’s Venom, well, Tom Hardy is in a very similar position, playing the role of an ordinary man, Eddie Brock, who becomes something extraordinary when an alien symbiote attaches itself to him.
Noticing the similarities between The Mask and Venom, YouTube’s Darth Blender has just cut together a fun trailer that blends the two together, using Venom‘s audio and The Mask‘s visuals to essentially present Chuck Russell’s 1994 film as he originally intended it to be. Alas, the studio insisted on turning horror into family comedy, and the rest is history.
But here’s what could have been…
