Screen Media quietly picked up You Might Be the Killer, a new meta-horror comedy from Brett Simmons (Husk, Animal, The Monkey’s Paw) that’s been making the festival rounds. While Trace wasn’t a fan out of the Fantastic Fest premiere, I actually thought it was pretty funny and delivers heavily on its premise.
As Trace explains, You Might Be the Killer sees camp counselor Sam (Fran Kranz, The Cabin in the Woods) on the run from a masked killer at the camp he is employed at. Rather than call the police, he calls his friend Chuck (Alyson Hannigan, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, American Pie), a slasher movie expert, to help him survive the night. Sam and Chuck work together to gradually fill in the gaps to see how he got to where he is now only to realize that, as the film’s title implies, Sam might be the killer!
A retro-themed trailer has made its way online ahead of the film’s Telluride premiere and gives you a taste of the film’s tone. What you don’t see is just how bloody it is. Fans of Friday the 13th are going to eat this up…
