Like Freddy vs. Jason, Alien vs. Predator is a mashup film that had been in the works for many years before it actually happened, and it was Peter Briggs (Hellboy) who wrote the very first iteration of an AvP script for Fox. Briggs’ script, titled The Hunt, was based on the Dark Horse comic books that mashed the two icons together, and it was penned by Briggs in 1991.
Most of the action in Briggs’ script took place on the planet Ryushi, a distant planet manned by colonists. An alien egg sent to the planet by a Predator gives rise to a Queen, who lays eggs on the planet and infests it with Xenomorphs… including many wild hybrids never seen in the films. Predators arrive and a bloody war ensues, with the humans caught in the middle.
Much like the version of Alien vs. Predator that was eventually made in 2004, one of the humans ends up teaming with a “Hero Predator” to battle the Xenomorph creatures.
