Ten years after the release of the last film in the franchise, fans of Friday the 13th in particular are hungrier than ever for the return of Jason Voorhees, with various fan films going viral and even smashing fan-funding goals on platforms like Kickstarter. This latest one has already slashed up over 1 million viewers in one week, and it brings together Jason and Michael Myers.
Titled Michael vs. Jason: Evil Emerges, the 30-minute fan film was made by the folks over at Radical Talent, and it takes place some time after the events of both Halloween (2018) and Freddy vs. Jason, reflected by the masks worn by Michael and Jason. Jason awakens after lying dormant for many years (yet again) and Michael escapes from custody (yet again), putting the two horror icons on a collision course that leads to a pretty epic battle for survival.
The battle itself is pretty damn awesome and the Michael Myers escape sequence that precedes it is incredibly well done. We don’t cover fan films all that often here on BD and that’s simply because most of them aren’t very good, but Michael vs. Jason is one of those rare gems that delivers the goods and reminds that not all fan films are created equal.
Thanks in large part to strong editing and effective sound design, writer/director Luke Pedder’s contribution to horror franchise fan films is one hell of an entertaining (and bloody) treat!
