One of the strangest films arriving this summer is Universal Pictures’ Ma, a new Blumhouse thriller starring Oscar winner Octavia Spencer as Sue Ann, a lonely older woman who opens her basement up to the new teenager in town (Diana Silvers, Glass) so she can party with her new friends.
Bloody reader Mike M. pointed us to a new Australian trailer that may have tipped its hat just a bit, revealing that Ma’s motive may be revenge. It can’t be a coincidence that Silvers’ character is new in town, and there’s the previous reveal of burn scars all over Ma. What ties this bizarre movie together? I guess we’ll find out on May 31st.
Ma also stars Juliette Lewis (August: Osage County, Natural Born Killers) as Maggie’s mom, Luke Evans (Beauty and the Beast, Dracula Untold) as a local dad, Missi Pyle(Gone Girl) as his girlfriend, and McKaley Miller (TV’s “Hart of Dixie”), Corey Fogelmanis (TV’s “Girl Meets World”), Gianni Paolo (TV’s “Power”) and Dante Brown(“Lethal Weapon” TV series) as Maggie’s friends.
