Just days prior to the release of the Guillermo del Toro-produced Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, the visionary filmmaker received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in a ceremony held this afternoon. Lana Del Rey and J.J. Abrams were on hand to present the honor to del Toro, and you can check out Variety’s livestream of the full ceremony down below.
Del Toro kicked off his speech by giving a shout-out to Issa López’s Tigers Are Not Afraid, calling it “one of the great dark fantasy horror movies of the last decade.” He similarly used the platform to pay his respects to the late makeup master Jack Pierce, announcing a personal endeavor to finally get Pierce his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
“This star is for all of you who feel weird,” del Toro told the crowd. Touching upon the current state of the country, he had a simple message: “Do not believe the lies they tell about us.”
“We all can make a difference. We all have stories to tell.”
