One of the coolest films of 2014 was The Signal, an incredible, under-the-radar sci-fi horror film with one helluva shocking twist. I’ve since been dying for director William Eubank to get back behind the camera.
After traveling to space, this time he’s heading seven miles Underwater with a new horror-thriller that, gets this, stars Kristen Stewart (Twilight, Lizzie, Personal Shopper), T.J. Miller (Cloverfield, Deadpool), Vincent Cassel (Irreversible, Black Swan, Sheitan), and John Gallagher Jr. (The Belko Experiment, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Hush)!
20th Century Fox kicked the week off with the first trailer that looks to faithfully blend Ridley Scott’s Alien with that of James Cameron’s Aliens and The Abyss – only Stewart acting as film’s Ripley. In fact, the trailer also calls upon two other must-see underwater horror classics – Leviathan and Deep Star Six. The short of it is, Underwater looks really, really good.
In the film, a crew of underwater researchers must scramble to safety after an earthquake devastates their subterranean laboratory. After digging, “something” has awakened.
Underwater hits theaters January 10, 2020, which should be one heck of a way to kick off the New Year!
