YouTube is loaded with content creators who focus solely on theme park attractions. A mix of Wiki with old footage that was probably recorded by your dad when he rocked that thick 1980s mustache, the do-it-yourself documentaries rely on pubic footage to tell the story of some of the greatest theme park attractions ever erected. Having watched hundreds of hours of episodes, I always find myself wondering if the theme parks themselves have any actual footage in their archives.

While everyone is focusing on “The Mandalorian”, one of the coolest shows launching on Disney+ tomorrow is “The Imagineering Story”, a six-hour saga by Academy Award nominated director, Leslie Iwerks, that chronicles the sixty-seven year history of Walt Disney Imagineering, a place best described as equal parts artist studio, design center, think tank and innovation laboratory.

This docuseries looks at the eclectic group of creative people who bring ideas to life and are responsible for building twelve theme parks around the world – the Happiest Places on Earth.

Even though the second episode focuses on Roy Disney’s attempt to fulfill his brother’s dream of EPCOT, the above photo teases the inclusion of “Haunted Mansion”, one of the most difficult attractions Disney ever assembled. The hope is that Disney has unlocked and/or unearthed never-before-seen footage from the concept to construction of the infamous dark ride that’s currently celebrating its 50th anniversary at Disneyland. Forget “Star Wars”, this is what we’ll be watching.
