Directed by The Witch‘s Robert Eggers, A24’s The Lighthouse follows two lighthouse keepers (played by Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson) who are stranded on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s. As an approaching storm threatens to sweep them from the rock and strange apparitions emerge from the fog, each man begins to suspect that the other has become dangerously unmoored.
After already arriving on VOD platforms, The Lighthouse comes ashore on DVD and Blu-ray (plus Digital) January 7, 2020, from Lionsgate. Extra features include not only deleted scenes, but also “The Lighthouse: A Dark & Stormy Tale” featurette and audio commentary from filmmaker Robert Eggers.
Bloody Disgusting has an exclusive clip from the featurette in which Eggers explains Dafoe’s authentic sea captain dialect, while the actor talks about his preparation for the role.
Docking within our list of the best horror films of 2019, The Lighthouse is truly “a nightmare at sea,” one that shows shades of Sam Raimi’s filmmaking prowess and carries the madness of Evil Dead II.
