‘Unusual Attachment’: Felissa Rose Appears in New Horror Short Filmed Remotely in Quarantine

We’ve been collecting all horror shorts made during quarantine in our Quarantine Horror tag, and the latest addition comes courtesy of writer/director Michael Varrati this week.

Sleepaway Camp actress Felissa Rose makes a fun cameo appearance in Varrati’s Unusual Attachment, a queer horror short that was conceptualized and shot remotely in quarantine.

Varrati explained to us in an e-mail this week, “In the spirit of other social media horror flicks like Unfriended or Searching, this little tale of a man looking for love is relatively comedic until things take a dark turn (because that’s how I roll). It was definitely an experiment in filmmaking to see if we could make something and stay creative while stuck in our homes, and I’m proud to say I pulled together a really cool cast, including genre mainstays like Felissa Rose, Peter Stickles (Shortbus), Charles Chudabala (The Gallows Act II), and more.”

“Created and shot entirely remotely, the short from June Gloom Productions, which unfurls over an array of video calls, chats, and news broadcasts, is a strangely relatable exposé on our reliance on technology as a modern means of connecting with one another. Telling the story of a man who thinks he’s found…and lost…the love of his life on an otherwise sketchy video sex chat site, Unusual Attachment details what happens when his search for his missed connection turns up something far worse.”

Lead by queer cinema mainstay Ben Baur (The Office is Mine, Hunting Season), Unusual Attachment features an impressive cast of celebrated performers that includes Francisco Chacin (He Drinks), Danny Plotner (HBO’s Euphoria), Peter Stickles (Shortbus), Charles Chudabala (The Gallows Act II), Navaris Darson (The Other Two), Sean Doherty (The Lightning Thief – First International Tour), drag performer Meredeath (San Francisco’s Stereo Argento), and horror icon Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp). The short also features the voice talents of Lotti Pharriss Knowles (Chastity Bites) and Patrick Falvey (From Hell She Rises).

After announcing Amanda The Adventurer would be coming to PlayStation, Xbox and mobile devices later this year, DreadXP and developer MANGLEDmaw Games have announced that the previously-announced sequel, the aptly-named Amanda the Adventurer 2, will be arriving later this year on Steam, as well. Not only that, but the sequel will also be getting its first playable demo during the Steam Next Fest next month.

Amanda the Adventurer 2 will centre on Riley Park, who after seeing what was contained on the mysterious tapes in their attic from the first game, heads to the Kensdale Public Library to investigate further. Upon arriving, Riley is greeted by a masked figure who claims to know Riley’s late Aunt Kate.

Furthermore, the figure needs Riley’s help in finding something Aunt Kate had left in the library. The figure also warns of a powerful entity that seems to be drawn to the tapes. Meanwhile, Amanda is now aware of Riley’s presence, and is doing everything to find a way to free herself…

New to Amanda The Adventurer 2 will be greater input when talking directly to Amanda, which will have a greater effect on her world. You will also not be able to head out and explore the environment to find what Amanda asks of you. Or, you could just refuse to oblige, and witness the results. You’re also not at your Aunt Kate’s any longer, with the Kensdale Public Library holding more secrets and lore for you to discover.
