It’s been an interesting start to 2024 here in the horror world, as the newfound public domain status of the 1928 animated film Steamboat Willie has resulted in a flood of (wildly unofficial) Mickey Mouse horror projects. The iconic Mouse first appeared in Steamboat Willie, and now that the animated short is in the public domain, well, that version of Mickey is too.

Filmmakers have been lying in wait for this day to come, and today we’ve learned that a horror movie titled Mickey’s Mouse Trap is already on the way. There’s also another untitled Steamboat Willie horror movie in the works, while the world of gaming is getting in on the fun with the upcoming Infestation 88. But the first Mickey horror project is already here.

Running just under 10-minutes long, The Vanishing of S.S. Willie has become the very first horror movie to take advantage of Steamboat Willie‘s public domain status, and it comes courtesy of Night Signal Entertainment. The short is presented as a long-lost documentary from 1928, one that details the disappearance of a commercial steamship, The S.S. Willie.

“Before it could premiere,” the short film’s opening text purports, “a fire broke out in the studio, destroying the only known prints of the film. Until now, it was considered lost history.”

None of this is true, of course, but it gives the short a found footage feel, delivering a twisted take on Steamboat Willie that tells the tale of the 1909 disappearance of The S.S. Willie.

Uncover the mystery by watching the short horror movie below…

The Vanishing of S.S. Willie is Directed and Written by Nick Lives.

Upcoming “Unholy Alliance” Update for ‘Cult of the Lamb’ Adds Local Co-op and More [Teaser]

Cult of the Lamb players will be getting more free goodies later this summer with the Unholy Alliance update. Coming August 12, the update introduces a brand new playable character in the Goat, which coincides with the game allowing local co-op.

With the Unholy Alliance update, the entire Cult of the Lamb campaign will be playable in local co-op. Players will also be able to enjoy special 2-player versions of existing mini-games, such as Fishing and Knucklebones, as well as choose from a selection of weapons, tarot cards, curses, and corrupted relics as your cooperative crusades progress.

The Lamb and Goat can also swap weapons, deal extra damage when fighting back to back, and even deliver a critical hit when their attacks are in sync. Good news for those who prefer to stay alone in their corner: they will be able to benefit from various new powers.

In addition to the addition of cooperative play, the Unholy Alliance expansion adds several tarot cards, relics, buildings, fleeces, character traits and quests, as well as the addition of new secrets to discover.

More information on the update will be released as the launch date creeps closer. Cult of The Lamb is available now on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and the Nintendo Switch.
