Get ready to do the Time Warp in 8-bit form, thanks to FreakZone Games and their video game adaptation of The Rocky Horror Show! Available now on Steam and the Nintendo Switch, The Rocky Horror Show Video Game is currently enjoying a 10% discount on both platforms until October 27.
As one would expect, The Rocky Horror Show Video Game is an adaptation of Richard O’Brien‘s legendary 1973 rock’n’roll musical as a sidescrolling platformer. Players control various characters as you make you way around Frank-N-Furter’s mansion. You have infinite retries, so the stress of a game over is absent, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be challenged by the mansion’s tricks and traps.
And of course, what’s Rocky Horror without the music? All of the iconic songs are here in 8-bit renditions by FreakZone Games’ Sam Beddoes.
“As a longtime fan of The Rocky Horror Show, it was an honor to adapt the legendary musical into a video game,” said designer Sam Beddoes in an interview with Impulse Gamer. “Now both new fans and veterans can enjoy a whole new take on the story and music in crunchy 8-bit goodness.”
This is actually not the first video game adaptation of The Rocky Horror Show. Way back in 2016, there was a Kickstarter project for The Rocky Horror Show: Touch Me, a mobile game that was successfully funded on Kickstarter, but the project sadly stalled in 2018 due to a lack of funds.
Big thanks to Retro Dodo for finding this.
