Released on Steam and GOG last year, SOEDESCO has finally announced that they’ll be bringing their Lovecraftian horror adventure title ASYLUM to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and the Nintendo Switch later this year. The team also teased that as part of the upcoming Halloween season, there will be “more coming” for those who already own the game on PC.

Announced way back in 2010, ASYLUM is the spiritual successor to the 2006 cult title, Scratches. The game is crafted in the grindhouse style of 80s horror (including its soundtrack) and drawing inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft’s stories, the iconic gothic style of Hammer Films, and the twisted horror legacy of Lucio Fulci.

Players take on the role of a former patient of the Hanwell Mental Institute, who is haunted by unsettling visions as they explore the decaying mental institution. You must explore the intricate layout of the building, research its past history, and march towards a shocking conclusion. Rather than relying on constant jump scares, the game builds tension through its oppressive setting, its haunting soundtrack inspired by classic 80s horror films and the work of John Carpenter, and a narrative “carefully crafted over 15 years of development.”
