Anchor Bay Finally Announces ‘The Evil Dead’ Blu-ray!
The horror classic that launched Sam Raimi’s career will finally be summoned to Blu-ray in August! In another retailer announcement, Hi Def Digest reports that Starz/Anchor Bay Entertainment has revealed The Evil Dead starring the amazing Bruce Campbell as legendary S-mart employee Ash Williams for a Blu-ray release on August 31. The two follow-ups in Raimi’s Evil Dead series, Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn and Army of Darkness, have already been released on the format. Specs and supplements haven’t been revealed yet, but suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $29.97. In the film, five friends go up to a cabin in the woods where they find unspeakable evil lurking in the forest. They find the Necronomicon and the taped translation of the text. Once the tape is played, the evil is released. One by one, the teens become deadly zombies. With only one remaining, it is up to him to survive the night and battle the evil dead.

After a record-breaking box office run and an extended cut re-release, A24 and director Kane Parsons’ Backrooms is heading home to Digital.
Backrooms will be available to rent or buy this Tuesday, July 14.
In the film, Chiwetel Ejiofor stars in Backrooms as the owner of Cap’n Clark’s Ottoman Empire, who discovers a strange doorway in the basement of the furniture showroom. He sets out to explore the mysterious, liminal space, walking headfirst into a creepypasta nightmare.
Renate Reinsve (A Different Man) also stars in Backrooms.

I wrote in my review, “Backrooms is at once complex and sparse, but never repetitive. It might be set in 1990, but it effectively captures modern anxieties and isolation in a way that frequently makes your skin crawl. While the journey ultimately loses steam by its cryptic end, Parsons’ visual representation of the human psyche disturbs like no other.”
YouTube prodigy Kane Parsons makes his feature directorial debut based on his creepypasta-inspired video series, which debuted in 2022 and has amassed over 190 million views to date.
