[Rant] I Hate Chris Brown

Published

on

Okay, it’s gotten to the point where I can’t be silent anymore. F*ck Chris Brown. Seriously, what an utter waste. I didn’t write anything when it came out that he beat Rihanna. I kept quiet after his performance at the Grammy Awards. Both of them. I even kept a lid on it when two (!!!) remixes came out featuring the two together. But thinking about it, I feel that this is something I need to get off my chest. So, here we go…

Chris Brown is a woman beater. That much is indisputable. He was found guilty of assault, was then tried and ultimately sentenced to five years of probation. A light sentence? I’m going to say yes.
As you most likely know, the beating of Rihanna occurred on the weekend of the 2009 Grammy Awards ceremony. Both were scheduled to perform at the ceremony but, for obvious reasons, both cancelled. Rihanna suffered serious facial damage as well as bite marks on her arm and fingers. She was choked into unconsciousness while Brown threatened to kill her.
Let’s fast forward to 2012. Brown is nominated for Best RnB Album (which he won), Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Song. Wait, people are still buying his music after what he did? And not only buying it, but lauding it? What a f*cking disgrace. What a sad, sad statement this makes on how people view domestic abuse.
But that’s not the only case that shows how quickly our culture can forget domestic abuse. In reference to the 2009 beating, Grammy Awards executive producer Ken Ehrlich said on the night of the 2012 Grammy Awards, “It may have taken us a while to kind of get over the fact that we were the victim of what happened.”
I’m sorry, what? Are you serious? Can you actually be saying that with any sense of understanding as to the impact your words are having? I’m gonna say that the victim was Rihanna, especially considering that she was beaten! Where were your bruises Ken? Where were your injuries? Oh no, you lost a couple of performers that night. Wah wah. Who gives a rat’s ass??? Your disgusting statement betrays your true thoughts regarding this situation and, boy oh boy, are they despicable.
Let’s get back to the fact that Chris Brown won a Grammy. Did he say something along the lines of “Thank you for believing in me. Yes, I’ve made mistakes. I plan on continuing my path towards healing and I promise that I will be a positive role model for you all.”? Nope. Not even close. This was a tweet he shot off two days after the Grammy Awards:
“HATE ALL YOU WANT BECUZ I GOT A GRAMMY Now! That’s the ultimate FUCK OFF!”
No remorse. None whatsoever. This narcissistic braggart thinks he’s free and clear now. Unfortunately, it appears that he’s right.
Oh, and just for a laugh, let’s not forget the vast wealth of Twitter ladies that were commenting on how “fine” he looked that evening and how they would “let him beat me any day”. Don’t believe me? Just check here.
Did you read them? Even if you only looked at two or three, you got the gist of what they all said. Is this the type of culture we live in where women would throw away physical safety in place of physical attraction? Something is seriously wrong here.
As for the current situation with Rihanna appearing on a Chris Brown remix and Brown appearing on a Rihanna remix, I can’t explain it. The music industry is often insane and bad decisions can be gilded to seem appealing. Or, for whatever reason, Rihanna has decided to forgive and move beyond the occurrence. If that is so, then that is her choice.
I personally think it’s one of the worst things she could’ve done. She is a role model to young women everywhere and she just pretty much said it’s okay to go back to the man who beat you.
So, at the end of the day, and I’m not going to censor it here, fuck Chris Brown. He’s a disrespectful, woman-beating, pile of scum. Oh, and his song Look At Me Now? It’s pure garbage.

Marco Beltrami’s ‘Scream’ Score Gets Deluxe Reissue For 30th Anniversary

Published

on

Seminal slasher Scream rewrote the rules in 1996, and for its 30th anniversary,  Varèse Sarabande and Craft Recordings are celebrating with a new anniversary reissue of Marco Beltrami’s landmark score.

The original 14-track album returns to vinyl in a collectible “blood-soaked” sleeve on August 28.

If blood red isn’t your color, there’s good news: the reissue will also be available in many different limited-edition exclusive pressings.

In addition to the wide “Woodsboro Bloodbath” red vinyl pictured below, look for the following exclusives:

An Extended Cut Edition of the Scream (Original Motion Picture Score), featuring all 40 of the film’s cues from the 2022 Scream boxset, will also be available on CD. All formats are available to pre-order or pre-save today.

Top L-R: “Knife’s Edge” silver vinyl with poster (Target), “Surprise, Sidney” metallic blend vinyl (Barnes & Noble), “Don’t Hang Up” clear vinyl (Books-A-Million),
Bottom L-R: “I’ll Be Right Back” blue vinyl (Urban Outfitters), “Final Girl” splatter vinyl (Hot Topic), “Wrong Answer” Blood Red Splatter vinyl (Varèse Sarabande/Craft Recordings), and “Final Phone Call” blue vinyl (Indie Retail)

Marco Beltrami composed the iconic score as a then young, up-and-coming composer—one who, ironically, had never scored or even seen a horror film.

Yet just three years after he completed the University of Southern California’s rigorous scoring program, Beltrami submitted 13 minutes of music for Scream’s opening sequence and his future was forever changed. “We knew in half a minute that we had found our composer,” Craven told Variety in 2012. “The music was haunting, beautiful and totally original. Marco turned out to be shy and soft-spoken, but a fountain of ideas and innovation. I never looked back.”
