While Paco Plaze gets rolling on the third REC, co-creator Jaume Balagueró (REC, REC 2, Darkness, Fragile: A Ghost Story) is in post-production on his psychological thriller Sleep Tight (formerly Flatmate), which follows the residents of the building where Cesar works as a doorman are not aware of the overtime he has been putting in. Apparently, he is at their service both day and night. We’ve seen some art and a few early stills, but now we’ve got a Spanish-language teaser trailer that shares with us the first ever footage. How can you not be excited to see what Balagueró has up his sleeve?
We all know who our friends are but what about our acquaintances? Those people who play a small part in our everyday lives, how well do we really know them? And how well do they know us?

Marcos works as a doorman in a Barcelona apartment building. Happiness eludes him and he feels the need to reaffirm his reasons for living on a daily basis. He goes about his day to day work mainly unnoticed by the residents of the building, but he pays close attention to them. He knows all the intimate details of their lives, everything about them, especially one of them. Clara King is a happy-go-lucky young woman, who always looks on the positive side of things. Her cheery attitude to life makes Marcos’ skin crawl. He won’t be happy until he has wiped that smile of her face once and for all, because Marcos feeds off other people’s pain. He delights in the unhappiness and anguish of others and he loves nothing more than to plant the seed of misery and watch it grow. In Clara he has found the perfect target, and he will go to extreme lengths to make her life miserable. But Marcos is starting to get a bit too cocky, and soon his carefully thought out plans will start to unravel…

Luckily for him, he has one last ace up his sleeve.

Two-time BAFTA winning filmmaker Joe Wright (Hanna, “Black Mirror“) is set to direct the feature adaptation of post-apocalyptic thriller novel, Juice, Deadline reports today.

Emmy winner Abi Morgan (Shame, “Eric”) will adapt Tim Winton‘s novel for Working Title Films.

In Juice, “A young husband and father is recruited into a top-secret resistance organization, to join the ranks of militia men tasked with targeting the isolated and wealthy culprits responsible for this global catastrophe.  When a mission goes wrong, he finds himself on the run, having to fight to the end to survive in this hostile world.”

It’s set in a world ravaged by climate-change disaster.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled that Tim Winton has entrusted us with his extraordinary epic,” Wright told Deadline. “The story is both a thrilling modern family saga and an urgent call to action. I cannot wait for audiences to experience it on the big screen.”

Winton added, “I’m pleased to know a filmmaker of Joe Wright’s calibre has chosen to adapt Juice for the screen. His capacity to portray the turmoil and the turning points of nations and peoples as well as private individuals distinguishes his work as a director and I’m confident that Juice is in good hands.”

Juice was initially published in October 2024 and longlisted for The Climate Fiction Prize 2026.
