‘Preacher’ Demands D.J. Caruso Directs Adaptation!

Published

I just walked over to the balcony, stepped outside, and took a long gander at the sky. I didn’t see any pigs flying. Thus, I shall remain skeptical off the forthcoming big screen adaptation of Garth Ennis’ Preacher.

BIG news from I Am Number Four director D.J. Caruso who proclaimed on his official Twitter account that he will be the man to bring Jesse Custard to theaters. “My deal just closed on ‘Preacher.’ Going back to the dark side and pretty f*cking pumped!

This is absolutely astounding news, assuming Columbia Pictures actually gives the film the green. And even if the movie actually goes behind cameras, I still am heavily concerned with two things: can they compress the entire 60-issue series into one movie (or will it be a trilogy?), and will they change the big finale? If Caruso, writer John August, and the studio flake out on the deeply dark finale, they may as well just throw this entire thing in the garbage. Thoughts?

“Preacher,” which ran from 1995-2000, told the story of a down-and-out Texas preacher possessed by Genesis, a supernatural entity conceived by the unnatural coupling of an angel and a demon. Given immense powers, the preacher teamed with an old girlfriend and a hard-drinking Irish vampire and set out on a journey across America to find God — who apparently had abandoned his duties in heaven — and hold him accountable for his negligence.
