Julianne Moore the Most Evil of Witches in ‘Seventh Son’
Bloody Disgusting exclusively learned that Julianne Moore (Shelter, Hannibal) has been cast alongside Jeff Bridges in The Seventh Son, Warner Bros. Pictures second attempt this decade at an exorcism movie. Moore will play “Mother Malkin,” the most sinister of witches who uses blood magic. Bridges was previously cast as Exorcist Master Gregory, aka “The Spook”.
Sergei Bodrov (Nomad, Mongol, Yakuza Girl) is directing from a screenplay by Max Borenstein.
Offers were originally out to Beastly star Alex Pettyfer and Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Lawrence, who won’t be joining now that she’s off to star in Lionsgate’s Hunger Games. Neither will Pettyfer.
Pettyfer was originally offered the role of “Tom Ward”, a young boy training to be an exorcist in the 1700’s and must learn how to exorcise ghosts, contain witches, and bind boggarts. Trouble begins when he’s tricked into releasing the most evil witch in the world.
The Seventh Son was formerly known as The Spook’s Apprentice and is part of Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ adaptation of Joseph Delaney’s young adult series “The Last Apprentice.” It is based on the first book in the trilogy “The Wardstone Chronicles.”
Production begins September 13 in Vancouver, with Legendary Pictures producing.
