Video Review: Hilarious Look at ‘Savage County’

Published

on

FilmBuff and MPI Media Group’s and Savage County is now available on DVD and Bloody Disgusting’s is proud to introduce new reviewer Don Allen to the fold. Inside you’ll find his hilarious video interview for the flick that he says lacks a fresh spin.

There’s a reason the Hardell family lives so far out of town: They don’t want company. That’s a lesson a group of high school kids learns the hard way when they trespass on the run-down Hardell ranch to guzzle beer and skinny-dip. After the brew kicks in, the teens get brave, and one of them dares to do a “ring and run” on the Hardell front porch.

But when the old man of the house answers the door pointing a shotgun, things get kind of tense, and before you can say “Deliverance,” one person is dead and the kids are laughing no more. What follows is a human hunting party, and the torture-loving Hardells have Hostel-like intentions for their young prey.

Savage County, directed by fearless first-timer David Harris, started life as a Web miniseries, but due to popular demand, it was turned into a feature and had its premiere on MTV2. The DVD features the uncensored cut that was too graphic for basic cable.

The fresh-faced young cast includes Ana Ayora (Marley & Me), Ryan Carter (OMG/Hahaha), Ken Luckey (90210, Greek), Mimi Michaels (Bones, All My Children), Doug Haley (Heroes, Good Luck Charlie), Ivy McLemore (Cigarette Girl) and Bekah Graf (My Roommate Sam). Jimmy Crosthwait (Lovely by Surprise), Jeff Pope (Black Snake Moan) and John Malloy (My Blueberry Nights) play the bloodthirsty Hardell clan.

Savage COunty is said to be a killer thriller in the classic mold of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hostel and Wrong Turn – a bloody tale of brutal violence and the desperate fight for survival.

Levicitus Digital release

After releasing in theaters last month, NEON announced today that horror romance Leviticus will arrive on digital platforms to rent or own beginning July 28, followed by a Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD Combo and DVD release on September 8, 2026.

Leviticus marks the feature debut by writer/director Adrian Chiarella.

Joe Bird (Talk to Me) and Stacy Clausen play star-crossed teenage boys who must escape a violent entity that takes the form of the person they desire most — each other.

Mia Wasikowska (Crimson Peak), Jeremy BlewittEwen Leslie (The Nightingale), and Davida McKenzie (Silent Night) round out the cast of horror movie Leviticus.

Leviticus is a strong debut with an incisive voice at the helm,” I wrote in my review out of Sundance. “We care deeply about Naim and Ryan’s survival, making Leviticus a tense, atmospheric, and claustrophobic vision of young love in a hateful world.”

Leviticus is the perfect title for writer-director Adrian Chiarella‘s powerful feature debut,” Meagan’s review explains, “a searing anthem against the corrosive nature of fear and bigotry.”

The physical media release comes packed with exclusive bonus features, the home entertainment release includes a feature commentary with Adrian Chiarella, interviews with Chiarella, Stacy Clausen, and Joe Bird, an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette, and the official trailer.

Look for Leviticus on Digital next week, and check out the box art for September’s Blu-ray release this September.
