Toronto After Dark ’11: World Premiere of ‘War of the Dead’ Poster and Trailer!
It seems like forever that fans have waiting to for epic World War II zombie film War of the Dead (also known as Stone’s War) directed by award-winning Finnish music video director Marko Mäkilaakso to be completed.
Outdated clips on YouTube date back to 2008, but the multi-national co-production starring Andrew Tiernan (300) has been at least five years in the making, and is already on the record books at the most expensive film ever to be shot in Lithuania.
Finally this week came exciting news that the World Premiere of War is set for next month’s Toronto After Dark Film Festival (October 20-27). But a quick search online revealed no new artwork or official trailer. But all that changes today, as Bloody-Disgusting can now exclusively reveal to fans the official one-sheet and official teaser for the World Premiere of War of the Dead! “Captain Martin Stone is leading a finely-trained, elite platoon of American and Finnish soldiers as they attack an enemy bunker. Underestimating their enemy’s strength, they are quickly beaten back into the forest. As they try to regroup, they are suddenly attacked by the same soldiers they had just killed a few minutes earlier. Forced to flee deeper into Russian territory, they discover one of war’s most terrifying secrets and realize they have woken up a far more deadlier enemy.”
If you’re interested in catching the World Premiere of War of the Dead, the film screens Saturday, October 22, 9.45pm at Toronto After Dark Film Festival‘s Zombie Appreciation Night (fans dressed as the undead get in for a discount!) paired with an earlier show at 7pm, the Canadian Premiere of Deadheads, this year’s festival circuit crowd-pleasing undead comedy hit. Unholy Night is set to make its World Premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival, where writer/director Michael Gabriele‘s horror short “Get Away” won the Gold Audience Award for Best International Short in 2023.
In Unholy Night, “Gino’s traditional family Christmas Eve turns into a bloody battle for survival when his long-dead grandma drops by and goes on a murderous rampage. Amid the chaos, Gino reunites with his ex and the dysfunctional duo must avoid his dead Italian relatives popping up all around the neighbourhood as they search for a way to get rid of these Yuletide revenants and survive his family Christmas.”
Marc Bendavid (“Dark Matter”), Shailene Garnett (“Shadowhunters”), Al Sapienza (“The Sopranos”), Ron Lea (“Orphan Black”), Toni Ellwand (“Hannibal”), Cristina Rosato (Mother!), Jacqueline Robbins (“A Series of Unfortunate Events”), and Joe Pingue (Antiviral) star.
Gabriele, making his feature debut, drew inspiration for his bloody holiday horror movie from growing up in an Italian family. “Unholy Night was crafted to deliver not only a captivating horror experience but also to serve as a poignant exploration of cultural complexities and the universal quest for identity and respect,” the filmmaker said in his director’s statement.
Unholy Night was produced by Gabriele alongside Jenna MacMillan of Club Red Productions and Jason Levangie and Marc Tetreault of Shut Up & Colour Pictures (Kids vs Aliens). Executive producers are Tina Carbone, Jef Burnham, Mike Chapman, and Fatima Hayward.
