AFM ’11: ‘You’re Next’ Star Toplines ‘Patrick’ Remake
Bankside Films is ready to roll on their remake of Patrick, locking Richard E. Grant (Dracula, Corpse Bride), Rachel Griffiths (Blow) and Sharni Vinson (pictured inside) for the main cast. Vinson is coming off a hot few years with You’re Next becoming the year’s festival fav. She will also star in Kimble Rendall’s shark thriller Bait.
Mark Hartley (Not Quite Hollywood) is directing the remake of Richard Franklin’s 1978 thriller Patrick, which was penned by Justin King.
Here’s the AFM plot crunch: “After killing is mother and her lover some years before, Patrick is the comatose patient in room 15 of a remote, private psychiatric clinic run by the secretive Dr Roget, who treats him as a guinea pig in his bizarre studies of life and death. When Kathy, a nurse who has recently separated from her boyfriend, begins working at the clinic, she is instructed to care for him. She is disturbed by Roget’s treatment of him and somehow feels that Patrick is trying to make a connection with her. When Kathy realises that the lifeless murderer can communicate, she is shocked but compelled to prove her theory. Patrick has psychokinetic powers which he uses to talk to Kathy by transferring his thoughts to a computer. As Patrick’s communication becomes stronger, strange and terrifying events begin to occur. Patrick has feelings for Kathy and his affection is about to manifest itself as a deadly, bloody obsession.” Pictured: Sharni Vinson
Director Casper Kelly (Too Many Cooks, V/H/S/Halloween) is back with another twisted vision this year, with his new movie Buddy coming to theaters from Saban on August 28.
Buddy centers on the titular unicorn mascot — a beloved children’s TV host with a squeaky-clean persona that belies his true nature as a dark and violent force of nature.

Here’s the official synopsis: “Inside the colorful world of It’s Buddy!, a group of children spend their days singing, dancing, and helping Buddy spread happiness. But when one child refuses to play along, Buddy is not pleased and cracks begin to appear in this seemingly perfect world.”
Cristin Milioti stars as Grace, a suburban mother inadvertently drawn into Buddy’s nightmare world, with Delaney Quinn as Freddy, a brave girl who begins to fight back against Buddy when he shows his true self. Keegan-Michael Key voices Buddy. The horror movie’s cast also includes Topher Grace, Michael Shannon, and Patton Oswalt.
Casper Kelly co-wrote the movie with Jamie King (“Jessica Jones”).

I’m thrilled that audiences will get the chance to see the movie in theaters everywhere.”

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “Casper Kelly drops viewers straight into the world of a kids’ show with a high-concept horror comedy that dials up the absurdities of kids’ television programming to a lethal degree. Those on board with an experimental structure and Kelly’s darkly playful sense of humor will find this raucous midnighter highly entertaining.”
