‘Blood Runs Cold’ Team Reunites for Swedish Terror ‘Wither’

Published

on

Stockholm Syndrome Film, the creators of the movies Madness and Blood Runs Cold (acquired by Bloody Disgusting Selects for a 2012 release) tells us about their newest ultra-violent Swedish horror that’s currently in post.

Tommy Wiklund and Sonny Laguna both direct Wither from a script they co-developed with David Liljeblad.

We’re told the film is about a swedish folklore that tells the legend about these creatures, almost human like, living underground. It has been told that if you disturb them, things can go very bad. When a group of friends get together for a weekend in an old deserted house, it doesn’t take a lot to awaken what lives underneath the floorboards.

Patrik Almkvist, Lisa Henni, Patrick Saxe, Amanda Renberg, Max Wallmo, Jessica Blomkvist, Anna Henriksson, Johannes Brost, Fredrik Dolk, A.R Hellquist, Ingar Sigvardsdotter, Ralf Beck, Sanna Ekman and Julia Knutson all star.

Laguna directed and Wiklund penned Blood Runs Cold. Albin, his girlfriend Ida and their friends are all in their late twenties. During a family dinner, Albin’s dad tells the couple about a supposedly abandoned house deep in the woods. Albin and Ida sees this as an opportunity to get together with their friends one more time and spend the weekend there. They all get together and are soon on their way. Everyone is excited about seeing the mysterious house. Upon arriving two of the friends, Markus and Marie, decides to scare Albin by sneaking in through a window. Marie climbs in while Albin and the other tries to get the locked front door open. Inside the dark house, Marie stumbles upon a hatch that leads down to an underground area. Out of curiousness, she can’t resist to check it out. But underneath the ground, something is waiting for her….

‘The Fisherman’ – David Lowery Directing Film Adaptation of John Langan’s Horror Novel

Published

on

Bram Stoker Award-winning novel The Fisherman from John Langan is getting a film adaptation, and David Lowery (The Green Knight, Mother Mary) will direct for Focus Features.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news this afternoon.

THR details, “Langan’s novel told the story of Abe and Dan, two widowers who bond together with fishing getaways in upstate New York as way to cope with their grief. One day, however, Dan suggests that pair try a new spot, an isolated and mysterious spot named Dutchman’s Creek, which is whispered to allow a person to see their lost loved ones.

“Even a spooky tale from a man in a diner detailing the terrible history of the creek can’t stop these two men, who eventually find themselves face to face with Der Fisher, aka The Fisherman. They probably should have just stayed home that weekend.”

David Lowery will co-write the film adaptation with Alex Ross Perry. Producers include Michael Bay and Brad Fuller for Platinum Dunes, and Gary Dauberman for Coin Operated.

John Langan’s novel The Fisherman was published back in 2016.

A cover quote from author Laird Barron raves, “The Fisherman is an epic, yet intimate, horror novel. Langan channels M.R. James, Robert E. Howard, and Norman Maclean.”

“What you get is A River Runs Through It… Straight to hell,” the quote continues.
