TV: ‘American Horror Story’ Wins Everything. Mind-Blowing Shocker Of An Announcement
I spent nearly every second of “American Horror Story’s” debut season wondering how they were going to keep up the nail-biting pace. Each and every episode had the feel of an entire season making creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk look like brilliant mad scientists. Theoretically, the show should not have worked, yet its brilliance can only be paralleled with the first few seasons of “Lost”. Now, the question remains, what’s next? Spoiler Warning.
After generating series-high ratings for Wednesday’s freshman season finale of “American Horror Story”, series co-creator Ryan Murphy and FX topper John Landgraf announced Thursday that there would be a new family and a new house in the horror-thriller’s second season, reports THR.
During a conference call with reporters, Murphy and Landgraf revealed that the second season would feature some new and returning faces but that the story of Ben (Dylan McDermott), Vivien (Connie Britton) and Violet Harmon (Taissa Farmiga) – who all perished and joined the legion of the undead in the house — has concluded.
This means that, yes, “American Horror Story” is an anthology! This is exactly how each episode was jam-packed with awesome, mostly because each season carries the same amount of weight as an entire series. New season, new series, new family… boner. “Every season of the show will be a different haunting,” Murphy said. “What you saw in finale was the end of the Harmon house and the second season of the show will be a brand new home or building to haunt. Just like this year, every season of the show will have a beginning, middle and an end.”
Murphy noted that he’s currently in negotiations with “a handful” of actors from the series, declining to name names, to return for the sophomore season of the FX drama – but playing new characters.
“There will be some new and familiar faces, playing new characters and new monsters,” Murphy said, touting the stand-alone season format that will typically feature horrors like infidelity. “It’s a fun idea to do an anthology show. That was the design of the show from the beginning; it’s a really cool and interesting way to tell a horror show: every season being what an American horror is.”

Christopher Landon to Helm Feature Adaptation of Grady Hendrix’s ‘The Final Girl Support Group’
A new feature adaptation of author Grady Hendrix‘s slasher book The Final Girl Support Group is now on the way from Paramount Pictures, and Deadline reports that it’s found its director in Christopher Landon (Drop, Happy Death Day).
The two previously collaborated on My Best Friend’s Exorcism.
In The Final Girl Support Group, “Lynette is a real-life final girl who survived a massacre. For more than a decade, she’s been meeting with five other final girls and their therapist in a support group for those who survived the unthinkable, working to put their lives back together. Then one woman misses a meeting, and their worst fears are realized—someone knows about the group and is determined to rip their lives apart again, piece by piece.”
“But the thing about final girls is that no matter how bad the odds, how dark the night, how sharp the knife, they will never, ever give up.”
I wrote in my novel review for BD, “Hendrix puts his characters through the absolute wringer. It’s a bloody, vicious voyage for the flawed heroine, both physically and emotionally. In terms of action and horror, Support Group delivers breakneck pacing and thrills.”
Five years ago, Andy Muschietti & Barbara Muschietti (Mama, It, It Chapter Two) were attached to produce a planned series adaptation for HBO Max alongside Charlize Theron. While Theron is no longer producing, the Muschiettis remain on board under their Double Dream label.
Paramount Pictures is also developing Hendrix’s sci-fi novella, BadAsstronauts.
