Lindsey Anderson Beer (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines) has written a fresh new take on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with upcoming novel Hollow, and the movie adaptation is already in motion. Sydney Sweeney (The Housemaid) is attached to both produce and star in the film, and Deadline reports this week that Sony Pictures has now landed the feature package.

Lindsey Anderson Beer is set to write the script as well as direct for Sony.

Deadline details, “The novel is a bold reimagining of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, told through the perspective of Katrina Van Tassel. Reframing one of literature’s most iconic heroines, the novel positions Van Tassel not as a romantic prize, but as the central figure in a dangerous mystery and seductive supernatural love triangle.

“The story blends gothic atmosphere, psychological intrigue, and erotic thriller elements into a contemporary, high-concept reinvention of the classic tale.”

Margot Robbie’s company LuckyChap Entertainment will be producing.

Sydney Sweeney will be playing Katrina Van Tassel, the character played by Christina Ricci in Tim Burton’s 1999 movie adaptation of Sleepy Hollow starring Johnny Depp.

Putnam will release the novel version of Hollow in Fall 2027.

The origin of all things Sleepy Hollow is of course Washington Irving’s story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” which was first published in 1819. Tim Burton adapted the tale for the big screen in 1999, that film starring Johnny Depp as main character Ichabod Crane.

More recently, the FOX series “Sleepy Hollow” was also based on Washington Irving’s tale of Crane and the Headless Horseman. The series lasted four seasons, cancelled in 2017.
