First Look At Indie Giallo-Inspired ‘Virginia Obscura’
Horror film Virginia Obscura has wrapped principal photography. The producers, Day of the Muerto, and writer/director Toby Osborne are thrilled to reveal the first official stills from this twisty giallo slasher starring an array of horror/thriller genre stars including Matt Mitler (THE MUTILATOR, BASKETCASE 2), Thomas Kovacs (MY BLOODY VALENTINE, SCANNERS), Linnea Quigley (RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD), Jessica Cameron (SILENT NIGHT) and Christopher Marrone (PLUS ONE), along with some new blood: Jennie Brown and Ed Conrade.
Virginia Obscura also features the nightmarishly-macabre handiwork of Kelly Mann, the special effects and make-up artist from NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3 & 4.
Filmed on location in New York, L.A. and Atlanta, the primary setting is a 100-year-old farmhouse in Ontario, Canada, in the dead of winter.
“Virginia’s embittered search to find her birth father takes a bloody turn… Following a deathbed confession, where she learns the names of four despicable men who took advantage of her mother at a drunken high school party; Virginia hatches a Machiavellian scheme to expose the truth and punish the past, by bringing together her potential fathers. But this isn’t your typical family reunion. Her hostages awaken, bound and hooded, to be confronted by a masked knife-wielding tormentor who accuses them of being “deadbeats”, stealing Mom’s innocence and abandoning the offspring of their one night stand. While all four are guilty, only one can be the actual father. Prior to this day of reckoning, Virginia surreptitiously collected their dirty secrets and a sample of their DNA; the paternity test results are on the way from a local lab. Yet, after dropping the envelopes on the doorstep, the delivery guy suddenly becomes a conflicted voyeur to the darkness within the farmhouse, peeping through a pinhole torn in a papered-over window. The twisted truth reveals itself in a blood-spattered showdown of DNA results, revelations and revenge.”

We have an exclusive first look at A Man in the Woods With an Axe, a blood-soaked, genre-twisting homage to 1980s slasher films.
Spanning four decades, A Man in the Woods With an Axe begins in the summer of 1987 before pushing into the modern era, weaving together timelines and perspectives in a way that builds both dread and intrigue.
Drawing inspiration from genre standouts like Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, Hatchet, and The Cabin in the Woods, the film blends visceral horror with moments of dark humor, creating a uniquely balanced experience that honors tradition while carving its own identity.
Writer-director Dillon Brown (Primal Darkness) aims to deliver everything fans crave from a slasher while boldly subverting expectations with a mid-film twist that redefines the story.
“This is an unapologetic love letter to the films that made me fall in love with horror,” Brown tells Bloody Disgusting. “But I didn’t just want to recreate that feeling; I wanted to challenge it. About halfway through, the film takes a turn that completely changes how you view not only this story, but the genre itself.”
Brown describes the vintage-inspired production as “far and away the bloodiest film I’ve ever made,” with practical effects helmed by Cody Ruch (The Mill, Pig Hill), an instructor at Tom Savini’s Special Make-Up Effects Program.
From Horror Dadz Productions, A Man in the Woods With an Axe is currently in production and targeting an early 2027 release.
