Today marks the 68th birthday of Stephen King, the author whose books have terrified audiences for over four decades with titles such as “Carrie”, “The Stand”, “The Shining”, “It”, “Misery”, and that’s only scratching the surface. Over 350 million copies of his books have been sold, and there have been several adaptations of his works into film, comics, and TV. His contributions have been so great that he was recently awarded the National Medal of the Arts, which is the highest honor the government can bestow upon an individual in the arts on behalf of the United States people.
We’ve long been fans of King and much of his work, celebrating several of his scariest characters as well as many of his most terrifying monsters. Additionally, we know just how important and personal his work has been to many of you, which is why so many of you responded with your King novel.
King is also known for writing strong, capable, intelligent, and well-rounded women, which is why the quiz on “Which Stephen King Heroine Are You?” generated so much interest and love. It proved that his work was, and still is, beloved my men and women, allowing everyone to share in the power of his work.
For fun, we found a list of King’s favorite horror movies from 1992, which has almost surely been updated in some way, shape, or form. However, seeing his favorites is fascinating as it shows which stories speak to him, the ones that left such a strong impression that he counts them among the best.
It’s impossible to fully fathom just how much of an impact King has had on the horror genre over the years. If nothing else, his books alone have changed horror literature and won the respect of even the most hardened critics. We can’t thank him enough for his contributions and we send him the happiest of wishes on his birthday!
