Alt-rock band The Rabid Whole have just released their brand new EP Problems and they’re looking to infect some ears! It’s the band’s follow up to 2012’s Refuge and features some incredible guests, including Dave ‘Rave’ Ogilvie (Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson), Noah Mintz (Death From Above 1979, Danko Jones), and Karl Schubach (Misery Signals).

As they embark on their upcoming ‘Terminator’ tour with Cyanotic, which kicks off Sunday, the band has put together a list of The Top 10 Infectious Horror Movies, which features some of the genre’s best offerings! Check it out below.

Problems can be purchased for $5 via Bandcamp.

28 Days Later (2002)

Post apocalyptic zombie horror…this was a cool movie. Probably the first time I was ‘exposed’ to horrifying, high-speed, running zombies…I thought they were supposed to be slow/dumb and easy to get away from??? This adds a whole new dimension of horror to the zombie genre + I got the inspiration for my hair cut from Cillian Murphy’s one-side shaved, surgery look…

  • HOLY CRAP IN A HAMMOCK!! They must not watch a lot of decent horror! I am Legend, Resident Evil and World War Z have NO place on this list! where are The Crazies? Cabin Fever? Slither? REC? Invasion of the Body Snatchers for that matter….BOOOO on this list…BOOOOOO!

    • ChildoftheKoRn

Regarding rec, This list is about infection, not possession. Last man on earth (omega man) is just I am legend prior to the remake. Invasion of the body snatchers wasn’t an infection, they were mimicked. Cabin fever, the crazies and Slither (parasitic infection) I could definitely see.

      • The plot of Rec is INFECTIOUS POSSESSION so it counts… Omega man (charleton heston) and The Last man on earth(vincent price) are not the same movie, and the reason I have issues with I am Legend is because it sucked balls….The Last man on earth was a far far better adaptation….hence my irritability with it being listed instead of last man. Invasion of the Body snatchers is humanity being infected by space fungus, duplicated and dispatched….i would also consider that an infection..unless you want to get all Medical about it and we can discuss, the difference between viral, fungal and bacterial infections and what actually constitutes an infection….IF you want to get REALLY technical about it then Night of the Living dead isn’t an infection story either because they never actually tell you what is causing the recently deceased to rise….so ….i believe case rested.

  • REC and REC 2 are my personal favorites. And I never comment on this but I want to get this out. I hate the Resident Evil movies. I don’t expect an adaptation of a game to be exactly like the game it’s based on but these movies are way too different from the source material. They’re total action movies, lacking the scares, tension and overall horror of the games. They made up their own character and relegated the game’s characters to supporting roles. I’m aware that Resident Evil 5 and 6 (the games) fall into this as well, being too heavily action oriented and losing the horror but Resident Evil 4 is one of the best horror games ever made in my opinion. It scared the shit out of me and I wish one of these movies could capture the spirit of that game. No disrespect to the people who love these movies but I hope they do an “Amazing Spider Man” and reboot this a few years after the current franchise ends. Have a character from the game (Leon is my favorite) and follow them through a movie that has action but is more focused on the horror aspect. And no more CG Lickers, they look atrocious.

    • The first RE film had lots of atmosphere (and some good jump scares). I do not mind that they took liberties but I can see them separately from the games. However, if they decide to do a proper horror adaptation of the games (and the subsequent lame sequels) I would still be up for that! But I guess the current films are focusing on giving us Mila kicking all sorts of butt which I do not mind at all ^_^

Regarding rec, This list is about infection, not possession

      • again……. The plot of Rec is INFECTIOUS POSSESSION (its even in the tagline of Rec 2:[REC]2: When Possession Becomes Infectious) so it counts…jesus dude troll much?

        • I don’t see how anyone who paid attention to REC could say it’s not an infection movie. I don’t mean that to sound hostile but it’s pretty clear that it’s, as you perfectly put it, “infectious possession”. Great description!

      • put it perfectly. REC is about a demonic virus that infects people. It’s a mix of religion and science, supernatural and biological. It is undoubtedly an infection movie.

  • Full Frontal Squashing

Have to have the REC films on this list

    • ChildoftheKoRn

This list is about infection, not possession

      • Full Frontal Squashing

It was a possession infection you fool! It counts! Believe It!

      • again… The plot of Rec is INFECTIOUS POSSESSION (its even in the tagline of Rec 2:[REC]2: When Possession Becomes Infectious) so it counts…jesus dude troll much?!

  • I would add to this list Rec2. They nailed the whole “zombie” thing plus they brought something new. Good to see some love for WWZ. Lots of flaws, but bloody entertaining film!

    • ChildoftheKoRn

This list is about infection, not possession.

      • again.. The plot of Rec is INFECTIOUS POSSESSION (its even in the tagline of Rec 2:[REC]2: When Possession Becomes Infectious) so it counts…jesus dude troll much?

  • Jason Artiga

This Article sucks ! What about Warning Sign( Inspired Resident evil ), The Grapes of Death, Nightmare City, Lifeforce, The Living Dead Of Manchester Morgue, Demons, Rec, Last Man on Earth, The Omega Man…seriously they need to hire a guy like me who KNOWS about horror , because lets face it , World War Z and I am Legend were horrible adaptations.

    • DUDE…How …the ..Fuck Have i not heard of Warning Sign….IT FUCKING EXPLAINS EVERYTHING!!! The First Resident Evil movie wasn’t even a game was a fucking remake of another movie (which is why its the only half way decent one)! You get the Golden llama of Knowledge my friend!

  • Christensen

No REC yet you’re gonna include Zombieland and I Am Legend? Quit your job.

    • ChildoftheKoRn

well…This list is about infection, not possession

      • Full Frontal Squashing

Its a possession infection goofball. It counts!

      • again….. The plot of Rec is INFECTIOUS POSSESSION (its even in the tagline of Rec 2:[REC]2: When Possession Becomes Infectious) so it counts…jesus dude troll much?

      • Christensen

it’s a hybrid between the possession and zombie subgenres and a lot of people (including manuela velasco) reefer to the infected from the films as zombies so REC would be more than applicable for this list

  • Shinobi

    This is some bullshit advertising.

i LOVE the top 3 movies listed and definitely consider 28 WEEKS/DAYS LATER & DAWN OF THE DEAD (remake) three of my all time favorite films. i also completely loved WWZ (i can’t wait for the sequel!).

anyone bashing this person for their opinions…grow up!! yes, there are some films in this person’s list that i don’t like but it’s just a list of someone’s personal favorite films. yes, i would have included REC/REC 2 but not everyone loved those films.

i will give everyone (thus far) who commented here props for not having a meltdown insisting the tired argument “INFECTION MOVIES LIKE 28 WEEKS LATER ARE NOT ZOMBIE MOVIES!!”. lol.

  • 967-evil

That list is poop. Do you even watch horror movies? No “Warning Signs”, no “The Crazies” (1973), no “The Stand”, no “Andromeda Strain”, no “Splinter”, no ‘Planet Terror” no “Cabin Fever”.

  • Bouncy X

i will never understand how or why some people consider the 28 days/weeks later movies part of the zombie genre. nobody dies and returns from the dead, there’s no zombies. just an infection that causes people to go beyond mental and homicidal. they are all alive and well…………..okay maybe not well but you know.

    • zigwardScissorHands

Because honestly it’s a pretty fine line and the average person doesn’t care enough to make the distinction. Call them infected or zombies they’re still mindless people going around attacking normal people who are going through the same sort of story tropes and ideas you’ll find in an average undead zombie film.

  • Grimphantom

No REC, No Splinter, No Demons, No Return of the Living Dead? I’m disappointed with this list.

  • ThunderDragoon

I’ll echo what most people are saying; no REC? Come on, now.

  • Peter Johnson

For the zombie pile up- that is talked about in Max Brook’s previous book, The Zombie Survival Guide. He talks about how a ten foot stone wall is great, but sooner or later the zombies will clamor on top of one another to get over. Oh, and Cabin Fever? Honestly, I’d rather have a zombie virus than a virus that burns my skin off, and I live to see it drip to the ground

  • Kaydan Howison

World War Z is one of the worst “zombie” films i’ve ever seen in my life. Hell it’s one of the worst movies i’ve ever seen in my life period.

    • J Jett

Kaydan, you need to see more films. it’s far from being one of the worst movies/worst zombie movies. you think Romero’s SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD was better? um, ok.

      • Kaydan Howison

I’m sorry all i see here is you putting words in my mouth i didn’t say.

      • Kaydan Howison

But on the topic of Survival Of The Dead. It was alot of things but it least it had a coherent albeit bad plot. World War Z makes no sense. Most of the stuff that happens in that film i’m pretty sure was cobbled together by some guys pulling random words out of a hat and hoping for the best.

    • diapers

Lol, WWZ wasn’t my favorite, but I’ve seen much much worse… like “House of the Dead”!

    • Darnell

While I don’t think it’s the worst film, and definitely not the worst zombie film every made it’s a terrible film all the same.

I remember watching and thinking to myself “Why the fuck did people think this was good?”

  • Chrissie-Watkins

I think they could have removed the “top” from the title of this article. Its just 10 movies that happen to fit into the category.

  • is that what zombie movies are being called now? “infection” movies? i say dont be lazy and find actual infection movies like cabin in the woods or the crazies not just mash up 2 genres thats just lazy.. but wtf do i know

  • undertaker78

Great list. I’ve seen them all and enjoyed them all as well.
