Quartet of Slash Films Revealed: Guitarist to Work with Niles and Natali!

With the Sundance Film Festival in full effect, ex-Guns ‘n Roses guitarist Slash has been all over the news with dribbles of announcements regarding his newly launched Slasher Films. Usually an announcement like so would have my giggling at the lunacy of it all, but finding out that Slash is working on adaptation Steve Niles’ awesome “Wake the Dead” made my head spin. A Look Back at a Hairy Franchise: The Transformation of ‘The Wolf Man’ Films

Contrary to popular belief, The Wolf Man is not the first Universal werewolf movie. That distinction goes to Werewolf of London, released six years earlier. That being said, the reason The Wolf Man is so much better remembered is because it was the first successful Universal werewolf movie, featuring a now-classic performance by Lon Chaney, Jr. as the title character. Sure, London has its charms, but The Wolf Man is really the movie that started it all.

A film being pushed at this year’s Cannes is Blood: A Butcher’s Tale, which is being directed by Mark Tuit. Starring Emily Perkins (Ginger Snaps, Juno) Aaron Douglas (I Robot, Shattered), Kim Coates (The Island, Silent Hill) and Christa Campbell (Day of the Dead, 2001 Maniacs), the film is the harrowing tale of Sam, a simple butcher, who discovers that the love of his life is being seduced by a vampire. As he investigates further, he realizes that his destiny is to become the destroyer of this bloodthirsty race. Lionsgate Home Entertainment announced today a May 27 DVD release for Brett Sullivan’s (Ginger Snaps II) The Chair. In the film Danielle, a young psychology student, is trying to rebuild her life when she sublets a century-old Victorian house. Unknowingly, she awakens an evil specter lurking in the dark recesses of her new home. To prove to her sister, Anna, that she isn’t delusional again, Danielle sets out to document the haunting with horrifying results. She has unleashed the soul of Edgar Crowe, a vicious child killer, who quickly seizes control of her life. Hungry to satisfy his taste for torturing boys, Crowe uses Danielle like a pawn to resurrect his ghastly “Panic Chair.” Now, Anna faces an impossible task – destroy Crowe without destroying her sister. Vincenzo Natali’s ‘Splice’ Begins Production for 2009 Release!

Splice, the dark vision of the world of genetic engineering co-written and directed by Vincenzo Natali (Paris, je t’aime, Cube) starring Adrien Brody (The Darjeeling Limited, The Pianist, King Kong), Sarah Polley (Dawn of the Dead, Secret Life of Words, Don’t Come Knocking) and newcomer Delphine Chanéac (Madame Hollywood, Brice de Nice) begins principal photography today, December 3, 2007 and will run until February 29, 2008 in Toronto, Canada. Today a really cool teaser poster for Brett Sullivan’s newly titled The Chair (previously Hush) hit the web, along with a few new pics. The new images can be found over at the official website, while the poster can be found inside. Sullivan is best known for his work on Ginger Snaps II: Unleashed. Danielle, a young and beautiful psychology grad student, is not only haunted by a troubled past, but by an evil presence in the here and now. To prove to her sister, Anna, that she is sane, Danielle sets out to document the haunting in her Victorian home, but instead she becomes possessed by the sinister soul of a child killer. Creepy Poster for Fawcett’s ‘The Dark’

As we sit here in the States and wonder if we’ll ever see John Fawcett’s (Ginger Snaps) second feature film The Dark, over in the UK and in Canada they’ve already begun the hype for an October release. Today we score a look at the poster for the film, which hits UK cinemas on October 28th (someone send in a review please!). Based on a book the movie is about a couple mourning the loss of their young daughter, Sarah. Today the first images from John Fawcett’s (Ginger Snaps) newest horror film The Dark appeared online, and they’re dazzling! The UK-Release for the movie is the 28th of October (Momentum Films) and the German release is the 27th October (Constantin Film). Miramax holds the US rights, so we’ll probably never see it. The book and movie are about a couple mourning the loss of their young daughter, Sarah. They are visited by a girl named Ebrill, who claims to have died over 60 years previous…and bears a frightening resemblance to their dead child. Katherine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps, Freddy vs Jason) talked to TV Guide about her upcoming roles in Ginger Snaps: Unleashed and Ginger Snaps Back, here’s a taste, “The insanity, it turned out, was all saved for the Ginger Snaps 2 plot, in which Isabelle’s ill-fated lycanthrope character, the titular Ginger, haunts her institutionalized younger sibling, Brigitte – herself a sure bet to lead a dog’s life. “But I’m still dead,” Isabelle says, chuckling. “It’s really weird.
