After the release of Halloween John Carpenter, and Debra Hill wanted to do something a little different for their follow up film. They wanted a ghost story, when this film was released in 1980 it wasn’t a big it, or even a sleeper hit, but new fans of Carpenter wanted more.
The 100 year anniversary of a small sea town, Antonio Bay, is close at hand. While the towns people prepare to celebrate, the victims of the crime that founded the town rise from the sea to claim their vengeance. One by one the ancestors of those who caused them wrong are dying, and until they are avenged no one is safe from the fog…
Killer fog huh? Sounds very terrifying. Well, it is, the tension in this movie is so thick you could cut it with a knife (no pun intended with the fog). Tom Atkins does a great job in this film, as he usually does. The scream queen herself Jamie Lee Curtis does a great job as well in this film. The way that the camera hides the face of the ghosts makes the movie that much creepier. Just re-released by MGM I would recommend anyone who is a Carpenter fan to pick this up.
