Filming is underway on killer wasp movie Hivemind, and Deadline reports that it’s tapped Samara Weaving (Ready or Not, Over Your Dead Body) and Nicholas Braun (Succession, Dream Scenario) to star.
Amazon MGM Studios has boarded Hivemind, with plans to stream the film internationally on Prime Video.
Hivemind is directed by Irish filmmaker Ciarán Foy (Eli, Sinister 2, Citadel), from the spec script by writer Peter Gaffney (Yeti) that was snatched up last year by Badlands.
It’s described as an “environmental thriller” and “centers on the evolution of a new breed of killer wasps and the small-town authorities who team up to prevent a deadly global outbreak.“
Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Diarmaid McGrath are producing for Thunder Road alongside Scott Strauss for Badlands, Macdara Kelleher and John Keville for Wild Atlantic Pictures, Adam Rodin and Gaffney.
Badlands is the same label behind the upcoming spider horror movie Crawlers starring Matilda Lutz. The launch of the genre label Badlands marks a partnership between Thunder Road (John Wick) and Screen Gems executive Scott Strauss, with a “fresh slate of horror IP” in the works.
With production underway in Dublin, expect to hear additional casting news in the coming weeks.
