This is definitely my favorite scary movie of all time!!! I absolutely love it! I never get tired of watching it.
awesome
The scariest horror film ive ever seen, and ive seen tons !!
i first saw this when i was very young and it has remained one of my favorites throughout the years, even today its one of my all time favorites.
Its perfect, the pacing, the lighting, the cast, everything.
I think its Micheal’s emotionless expression and john carpenters haunting score that make this movie so chilling, also the sense of dread through the whole film really keeps you on the edge of your seat
Truly one of, if not the best horror / slasher flick out there
i recommend you see this at least once in your lifetime, you will not be dissapointed
This movie is amazing and that is why it is my favorite Horror Film of all time hence my user name Rob Zombie could not even come close to his vershion being a worth companion.
To me, this IS THE BEST HORROR FILM OF ALL TIME!!! I love everything about it; the acting, the characters, the plot, the setting, the dialogue, the music, the suspense, the pumpkin during the opening credits, the awesome ending! I love that it takes place on Halloween and has a psychpathic killer named Michael Myers killing people and Dr. Loomis is trying to stop him! If you love old-school classic horror, I definitely recommend HALLOWEEN!!!
You Cant Beat
This!!!
Bad Ass!!
didnt like it but but i give it 10 for a classic and for being a mark in horror movies
Truly scary. A classic that will last many more years to come. Although now a days it is a LITTLE boring but it is still scary and the mood of the movie is GREAT.
This movie is a classic. Debra Hill and JOhn Carpenter did a great job. They took the small town approach and made it scary. With a strong cast, strong characters, unforgetable villain. Strong suspence. This movie is top notch. God bless debra hill, donald pleasance. I will miss you.
I first saw this when I was 6 and it traumatised me for life !!! Still to this day I cannot watch this film alone, even in the middle of the day and I’ve seen it dozens of times. THAT music, THAT mask, the pov shots at the beginning, the unbearable tension, Michael Myers opening the bedroom door standing there in THAT sheet ! Michael Myers hiding in the back yard amongst the washing, I could go on and on. This movie is the Grand Daddy, The Godfather of them all and simply put, THE BEST HORROR MOVIE OF ALL TIME. I would rate this 100 skulls if I could. Every horror fan, gt down on your knees and praise the mighty HALLOWEEN.
One of my all-time favs. Creepy atmosphere & eerie blue lighting. The mask, the music, & a terrific performance by the late, great, Donald Pleasence. Dr.Loomis is my second favorite movie character of all-time, with Quint(Jaws)being first. Terrific film!!!!
THIS MOVIE IS THE SHIT!!!!!!
tell me how many movies on a budget of $300,000 turn out making some $700,000,000 and pave the way for like a thousand sequels!!!!!!!!! it just doesn’t happen!!! That alone tells you how awesome this movie is
it had its flaws, but doesn’t every movie????????????????????????????????????
fuckin scary!!!!
the mask was prolly the thing that sold it (and the music) CREEPY AS HELLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Classic! Hands down. One of the best of all time.
Revelutionary in slasher films. Outstanding.
Classic! Hands down. One of the best of all time.
Ive watched this movie so many times that i can recite nearly all the lines
Halloween is easily the best horror movie I have ever seen. It doesn’t rely on buckets of blood or loads of nudity to create a horror movie. It rather, depends on suspense and terror to carry the film.
The plot to the original 1978 John Carpenter version, is simple. Michael Meyers escapes from his jail cell on Halloween to kill people. No one knows why he did this, or why he was a psycho.
Halloween is simply a masterpiece. The kills are wonderfully done. Once, Michael Meyers kills someone you never actually see the kill, leaving it to the imagination. There is also a great amount of character development for the film to really kick in. The movie builds suspense rather than the body count. In fact, Halloween has only four on screen kills and yet it’s still amazing. Unlike, the Rob Zombie version there is zero suspense and rather just violence and sex throughout the film.
Overall, Halloween is easily the best horror film I’ve seen. It builds suspense, terror, and chills without relying heavily on buckets of blood.
what can i say about this movie that hasnt been said
There is a major difference between having respect for a film and being truly captivated by a film. Respect is simply realizing the importance a film had to cinema, or a certain genre, and admiring it for what it was in its time. Captivation is when you watch a film and are truly amazed by what you have just witnessed: in result, you think about it for days; you give it a perfect score; it becomes a part of your life. With that said, let me briefly talk about the two main groups that make up the Halloween fan-base.
Group (1) watched the film when they were 4-years-old or when it first came out, went in their pants, and then childishly force the biased idea that it’s THE scariest movie of all time into the heads of everyone who is even a mild horror fan. Because of nostalgia, they ignore the fact that Halloween is just a generic killer-in-the-house movie, even in its time, and place it high above anything and everything that has come out in the horror genre afterward. It doesn’t matter how original or intelligent a modern horror movie is, in their mind, by God, it can’t touch Halloween. Funny, though, if you ask them “Why?”, they can never answer you. Group (2) watched the film in their teen years, thought in the back of their heads that Halloween was nothing special, but gave it perfect scores out of pure respect and duty. Group (3) is rare, but it’s the few who saw it recently and genuinely thought it was a superior film, without being biased by positive scores. Group (4), which I include myself in, is completely middle-ground. They realize the most of the film is nothing special, but there are enough cool elements to keep them from saying its pure crap.
The reason I bring up the fans is because it’s a subject that no one really wants to talk about, but a subject that is very important when analyzing the film. With millions of “Perfect!” opinions beating down on you, honestly realizing the mediocrity of Halloween isn’t an easy thing to write in a review.
The main reason Halloween isn’t as great as it’s hyped to be is the core story. A juggernaut killer kills. Point blank: it’s generic, unoriginal, and just downright boring, even in its time. As citation, the year before Halloween came out, Stephen King expressed in an introduction that he was sick of “generic killers” and that he could “write this in” his “sleep”. (Note: This was not in response to Halloween or any other movie, but his personal feelings.) When I look at Halloween as a story and as a story alone, I cannot give it any credit whatsoever. It’s pathetic. It’s painfully unoriginal. Much more complex and original horror stories were told in the `70s. For one, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (’74). Another, Alien (’79). Another, The Shining novel (’77). Another, Carrie (’76). Halloween, in comparison to its peers, is just primitive in the way of plot, and that’s the main reason I cannot give it a higher score. Some inaccurately credit it for starting the slasher sub-genre, but because it didn’t, I can’t even give it story credit for that.
However, the reason I don’t dismiss the movie as a total waste of time is because of the atmosphere and directing. John Carpenter doesn’t quite reach the perfection here with these two elements that he later reached with The Thing, but it’s still impossible to ignore how superior they are in Halloween. The opening sequence with Michael as a child is absolutely brilliant. It pays homage to Black Christmas (’74) by doing a first-person view of the killer, then takes it even further with a third-person view afterward. The Halloween night atmosphere isn’t quite done to absolute nostalgic perfection, but it’s done better than any other movie I’ve seen. The camera angles, the reveals of the killer, the shadowed faces–all clichés to us now, but this was the movie where most of them originated. And it did all of this without cheese. This aria is where Halloween deserves its credit.
With that said, Halloween really isn’t scary at all unless you grew up with it. Even in its time, it was a generic killer-in-the-house film, and, as I’ve read some reviews state, it wasn’t scary even on its release night. As for gore, I’m not even sure I saw a single drop of blood in the entire film, and that got a little cheesy. The acting is also borderline cheesy at points, but nothing too distracting. What is distracting, however, is the lack of action for most of the screen time does get very boring. It is obvious Carpenter is trying to make up care for the characters by showing up drawn-out bits of their lives, but that doesn’t work because they’re all just cardboard, personality-less people.
I never write reviews based on my respect of a film, but rather on my view of a film. Halloween deserves the credit it receives. I won’t deny that. What I will deny is that this is the scariest movie of all time, or even one of them. What I will deny is that Halloween is the ascension to heaven that the brainwashed fanboys make it out to be.
a must have. they have the best killer aspect. all siblings sometimes hate their siblings. when michael is in the scene, it is usually shot in his first person view, which is AWESOME. a truly inspirational film, and spawned one of the greatest horror series. on halloween, he will come to your tv screen! hopefully!
just an amazing movie you know the rest……
THis movie is one of my all time favorite slasher movies, not only that, but one of my favorite horror movies in generaly, along with many many others. If you are a horror fan and have not seen, the original, this then you a f***ing retard and are not a true horror fan and should get off the f***ing couch and buy this f***ing right now you f***. XD. But seriously do that.
This movie has a perfect score to it and it is unforgettable, the movie with its score reminds me of happy times in my life believe it or not lol. But not only that, this movie has, virtually, no blood (maybe just a very veyr very small amount) and it proves that buckets of gore, even though awesome, are not needed to make a great horror film.
This movie is classic and stands the test of time. You need to see this movie, John Carpenter is a god for horror and must be respected in the horror community. Watch this movie NOW, if you havn’t and enjoy it. But don’t take it as the recent one from Rob Zombie which is just garbage compared to this one, Rob Zombie (as much as i liked House/ 1000 corpses and Devils Rejects) just f***ed this one up and im not really lookin forward to H2.
But anyways this movie is pure greatness with it’s score and perfect use of no gore and Jamie Lee Curtis’ good performance for a first time actress. I give this an EASY 10/10!
one of my favourite !CLASSIC!
OK i couldn’t take it anymore…I’ve been reading all of these posts about H2 and about how much RZH sucked and how great the original is and im sick of it….SO i’ve made an account so i can tell all of u halloween fanboys the TRUTH. RZH wastnt perfect but it wasn’t bad it was entertaining and H2 looks to be much butter. But i’m not here to discuss Zombie or his films…i’m here to tell the truth and the truth is Carpenter’s halloween is OVERATED!!!!!!! People are here and all over the internet talking like this is the holy grail of horror films and the truth is its not its not even on the mt. rushmore of horror movies…People talk like this is the scariest movie of all time like its so great… I will give credit where credit is due this movie did start the slasher genre and did do alot for horror and in that aspect yes its a classic BUT its only a classic because it was the first of its kind the movie isn’t a classic because of its quality…people refuse to see the faults in the movie and the plot hole it has in them idk why pople put it on this pedistole like its the michael jordan of horror films. People act as if this movie is perfect when in fact it is far from it…yes it is well shot and the score is amazing but the plot moves slow and fails to keep the audience engaged and too many plot holes to count… Some of the flaws people complain about other horror movies are the very same flaws that go un-noticed in halloween why….i have no idea…The series as a whole is just bad…every movie is the same and nothing new is ever brought to the table until RZH…but back to the original…its not even the best slasher movie of all time…as far as i’m concerned three films slasher movies are better…SCREAM-much more clever, entertaining and most of all scary!!! same with a nightmare on elm street and hitchcock’s psyco… michael is an icon and halloween is a clasiic but not for the movies creepiness or quality but for it being the first…sorry to tell the truth….my rant is over and hopefully u all see the light
Classic, but in my opinion I liked RZ’s better. More intense and brutal.
a great movie in all, very thrilling!
The best horror CLASSIC!
The only reason I am giving this a nine is because of that fact that it looks dated – albeit it was made with a small independant budget.
Anyway, in my opinion Halloween created the iconography of all the slasher films that followed it and had a greater overall slasher influence than Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Black Christmas.
Without Halloween there would not be the Friday the 13th series as they openly said that they ripped it off and thus there may not be films like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Child’s Play, Scream, I know what you did Last Summer, etc, etc.
Also, the film set up a lot of today’s slasher cliches such as if you have sex you will die, if you say ‘i’ll be right back’ you will die and that the killer never dies. Therefore, most of the things that you see in slasher films today John Carpenter and Debrah Hill did it first with Halloween.
A great slasher film with one of horrors best scores which is actually tense and scary (when you first see it at the age of six anyway).
Halloween is a fresh take on slasher horror. Despite it’s age, it doesn’t seem old at all. Halloween has a great, unique plot. Mad-man Michael Myers kills his family at a young age, and when older, goes on a killing spree he never finished. The plot is pretty simple, but is really unique, and at the time had never been done before. For the time, the acting is great, and will make you laugh from time to time. Don’t suspect this will look like a low budget horror, cause’ it is, but looks very modern and doesn’t fall short of differant deaths. The shadowing appearance of Myers, from his evil mask to dirty looking cloths, and a eere atmosphere makes Halloween a solid scare. There is just the right amount of gore to make any horror lover want more, and the great death scenes make up for the lack of it. You can never forget Halloween, because of it’s haunting music, which sticks in your mind for days. The brutal hum, the evil tones and great sound effects make Halloween one of the best sounding horror’s out there.
Overall, Halloween is an essential film to watch, fro any horror lover. Expect alot of great things, and watch it!
10/10
What makes this Film Great is the simple fact “Less is More”, the Mood and Tone here outweighs any Gore or OverKill! Sure its a simple Plot but one that starts off by grabbing you in and throwing you for a loop to find out “Spoiler Alert- Like who hasn’t seen or heard of this Movie by now”, that a small Child has just visiously sliced and diced his Sister for no apparent reason, years go by, Starting slower paced and continues to Build as the Movie Progresses til the very end! Its built on Suspense, Not Gore, And who hasn’t feared the Boogy Man growing up, Hell, I still do, the Idea that a Emotionless Killer could be hiding in your Closet waiting for the perfect opportunity, whats not to fear? Yes maybe more “original” Horror movies have come along since, and maybe if your into it, more Blood thrown at you that after Viewing, you feel as if you need to take a Shower But, whens the last time you immediately after the Lights came back on and the Movie is over, Looked around to make sure “there are no uninvited “Guests” Staring back at you? “Was that the Boogy Man?” “As a Matter Of Fact, That Was!” “Halloween Delivers, Always has, and Always Will!!
Although my favourite Carpenter Movie is “The Thing” this one is a Blueprint of a simple Horror-Movie done RIGHT!!!
It has a simple premise done with great Cinematography and builds up Tension to a great Ending!
The Characters feel REAL (and not as dull and annoying as in the Rob Zombie Movies)!
One of THE biggest Horror-Classics! Nuff said!!!
The King of slasher movies, this is more about suspense and atmosphere than gore. And John Carpenter just completely nailed it. From the opening steadicam shot where you see the point of view of Micheal Myers to the creepy side of surburbia, where a killer can lurk behind any tree or fence (not to mention the brilliant title sequence, where you hear the classic Halloween theme in full).
Classic!
Halloween is easily the most well known and probably the most popular of all his films. Perhaps the grandfathers of the modern slasher movie, Halloween is an honest to God horror movie. It wants to scare the shit out of you, and overall it succeeds. Right from the eerie opening credits, which feature just the cast and crew information next to a jack-o-lantern floating in blackness and the now-famous music, you know Halloween is the real deal. For those who haven’t seen it, it starts out with a young boy who, for reasons unknown to this day (despite that freakshow Rob Zombie attempting to over-explain it in his wholly unnecessary and awful remake), stabs his older sister to death on Halloween night. Found near-catatonic by his parents, he’s committed to a mental institution. Years later, despite the fearful eye of his doctor, Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasence in perhaps his best Carpenter role), a full-grown Michael Myers escapes and returns home.
From there, you can guess where it goes. He begins stalking Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and young Tommy Doyle, the boy she’s babysitting (who thinks he’s seen the Boogieman). Meanwhile, Loomis desperately tries to enlist the help of the local sheriff to help track him down. It may sound like Halloween is boring, derivative slasher movie fare when in fact it’s more accurate to say that everything since is basically a cheap imitator. Like most of Carpenter’s early films, it was filmed on a tiny budget — less than $500,000 — so much so that the cast had to provide their own clothes. It’s completely lacking in special effects, uses makeshift sets and was filmed on a relatively rushed schedule. Despite all of that, it’s a masterful horror film, playing on people’s fear of the dark, of strangers, of the unknown. Michael Myers is nothing less than a force of nature, an enigma. While many have theorized that he kills promiscuous teens as some sort of vengeance, it’s a pithy response that cheapens the truth, which Loomis sums up best:
…there was nothing left. No reason, no conscience, no understanding; even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, good or evil, right or wrong. I met this six-year-old child, with this blank, pale, emotionless face and the blackest eyes… the Devil’s eyes. I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up because I realized what was living behind that boy’s eyes was purely and simply… evil.
Carpenter found genius in simplicity. A methodical, silent killing machine with no motivation, no root causes. We’re spared the lengthy explanations and justifications — he’s an empty vessel filled with nothing more than the instinct for killing that defines him. Halloween also features numerous camera shots taken from Myers’s perspective, allowing us to see and hear as he does, making it even more unsettling. While some of the films on this list have lost their luster and are now more valuable for their contribution than their quality, Halloween is no such entry. It remains to this day one of the best horror movies ever made.
Halloween is of cause a classic in the slasher genre, but is it really that good? I think that I have watched this movie about six or seven times. The first time I watched the movie as a 14-year-old I thought that the movie was creepy, fun and had a great atmosphere.
The plot in the movie is simple, the acting is descent and killer has is stereotypical by today’s standards. So after my last re-watch of Halloween I think that the movie is just an above average slasher.
So I think that the movie is a 9/10 as a original movie inventing the slasher genre (though Black Christmas was older 1972).
But compared to other slasher movies today I think it is a 7/10. So that final score will have to be 8/10
it wasn’t scary and it wasn’t thrilling, but it was kinda entertaining.
the whole mental patient escaping was kinda cliched too much, but having Michael Myers steal a William Shatner mask and going after the only known family member to his mind, Laurie Strode, was a pretty good idea.
One of the greastest slasher films ever made!! A truly orginal horror masterpeice!!!!
2nd best Horror movie ever.
First best is Halloween 4.
But still great movie 10/10
My favorite movie of all time. Carpenter and company really accomplished something special with this horror film
Halloween is a terrific film and in my opinion the film that started the slasher genre. Halloween was the first film to contain one mysterious, larger than life character, with nothing but a knife and a creepy mask to stalk and hunt down a bunch of teenagers.
I prefer this version far more over the remake as I thought the remake absolutely ruined it. The whole sense of mystery that made Micheal Myers so inhuman and eerie in the original movies was that nobody is quite sure what is going on with him. And then in the remake it’s some bullshit about the internal darkness that built up in some metal head kid who was apparently abused so he decides to wear a clown mask to school.
Anyway this film has a terrific and memorable musical score and reinvented the horror genre making films like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th possible. And because of this the 80′s again became an awesome decade for horror.
The best horror of all time in my opinion.
I had a lot of difficulty deciding whether to review this film, as it’s been reviewed a thousand times by a thousand other people who probably know a lot more about horror cinema than me, and who write about it a hell of a lot better too.
But I eventually decided that I can’t leave out what is, in my humble opinion, one of the best movies ever made. What I will do however is keep my review short, and just list why I love Halloween so much:
Groundbreaking- Halloween was the first highly successful slasher film, and provided a template for horror films that would be imitated right to this day.
Score- The simple and horrifying music still gives me chills.
Story- Awesome storyline, just like a modern fairytale, a simple scary tale that has gone on to foster urban legends everywhere.
The Shape- Again, often imitated, but never equalled for true terror.
Longevity- Still holds up as a great and scary film, after more than 30 years.
Finally, Halloween is just freaking awesome… If you haven’t seen it, shame on you, and if you haven’t seen it for a while, then get it out, dust it off and enjoy the ride…
The greatest horror movie in over 30 years! Just a great classic, this deserves a fucking grammy! just love this movie! Watch this at night today and it still has that suspenseful feeling to it! John Carpenter is a genius! Michael Myers is the best! Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis did a perfect job! just the perfect horror movie! 5/5 Stars, 10/10, etc.. 100%!
One of the best suspense of all time !
In my opinion, THE best horror flick ever made. Equal parts Alfred Hitchcock and Dario Argento, it pretty much set the stanard for all the slashers that came after. Tense, atmospheric, and just downright scary….perfection!
My all time favorite movie and in my opinion the greatest horror film made. I love every aspect of this movie the score, the characters, and the suspense. This is a must see movie.
This movie made me appriciate Horror Slashers from the 80′s
Best ever!
Not much more you can say
The one and only original, not this `want-to-be-Halloween’ of Rob Zombie, no offence ,but Rob, stop trying to top something that’s already the best! John Carpenter’s classic horror flick about a psychic killer who murdered his sister at the age of 6 and escaped the psychiatric ward 15 years later, right before Halloween just to do, what he does best – slashing teenagers! On the search for his lost sister Laurie Strode -played by the unforgettable final girl and scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis!!! The famous haunting score by Carpenter himself and the breathing behind the mask, makes this one the definition of classic bogeyman horror! THE BEST SLASHER EVER MADE!!!
The movie that personified horror through Michael Myers aka the shape. This has to be one of the most important movies in horror history. Without Halloween there wouldn’t be a Jason, Freddy, Chucky, Pinhead etc. Face it, Michael Myers is the original gangsta, whether you like it or not. Not to mention the iconic Donald Pleasence is amazing as Dr. Loomis. If you don’t have this in your horror collection just go ahead and punch yourself in the face. Masterpiece!!!!
A CLASSIC one of the first and still best stalker/killer films
and that myers mask STILL THE CREEPIEST THING EVER !
Like a fine wine! If you have never seen this, drop what you are doing and rent it immediately! You are in for a treat!
Often imitated (Friday the 13th, anyone?), but never duplicated. This film creates a moody atmosphere the moment you push play. John Carpenter knows exactly how to keep the tension mounting until you just can’t take it anymore. Will scare the poop outta you.
A stone cold classic!
Well, so many years have passed since I first saw this film. I actually saw Halloween 5 first when I was seven. My babysitter had a thing for horror films and she introduced me to many films. This and other like “Night of the Demons”… it made me into a warped out kid. I finally saw this one when my mother recommend I rent at the age of nine. (thank you mom) I was astonished!
The film is the only of it’s kind and I mean before any other slashers that would latter follow. It was the first of something like Romero’s “Night” was the first of something.
I loved John Carpenter’s work and followed him with the rest of his films. I loved how he would make a film and then completely jump to another with a new different theme and style. Make a slasher, then a ghost story film, then a super-natural film, then a sci-fi… He is very good at what he does. Halloween was really the start of his career.
(well “Darkstar” and “Assault on precinct 13″ really brought his name)
Also he does what very Director does and that is writes his own score for his film. Instead of paying for an expensive (all too similar sounding symphony orchestra sound) band he would just make his own.
Each film of Carpenter, like this, has it’s own feeling, style, and sound! Halloween is a classic Horror and will always be just right for the holiday!
Deffenitly in my top 5 horror movies! one of the best classics ever!!!!!! Rob Zombie screewed halloween into the ground! The original is the only one!!!
Halloween is my top favorite horror film. Also, the best slasher film before Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Hellraiser.
The original, the best and the one that all others in the future will be judged by.
There’s no need for me to explain just how good this classic gem is! But if there is someone who hasn’t seen Halloween at least once, then ask them “what rock have you been hiding under?” This truly is the master of all horror slashers
John Carpenter truly is a master of the horror genre. With this film, he takes the feeling of being watched or stalked by someone, for some reason, but still being unsure if it’s actually happening. Add in a little bit of a supernatural twist, and you have a classic film that is enjoyable for all audiences, from a novice to an expert. More information here:
http://thewolfmancometh.com/2010/11/16/halloween-1978/
My favorite horror film. And i love how john carpenter didnt have to use alot of gore to make this film good.
The best Slasher film ever made.Carpenter’s direction was superb. The Music was amazingly creepy and added to the Ambiance.Micheal Meyers was truly a scary monster in this film. The cast was perfect too.A must own!
I remeber the first time I watched Halloween, I couldn’t hide my excitment me and a couple of friends found a copy of the film and watched it, not only did we lose our horror virginity but we also became facinated with Halloween and the horror genre itself.
Without a doubt Halloween was one of the first slasher films to come out of the late 1970′s it classic horror settings and story teriffied audience around the United States. It wasn’t always hailed as the classic film it is today, many early reviews dubbed the film unwatchable but they couldn’t of been more wrong. Halloween changed the rules and kicked off one of the biggest sub-genre’s ever.
One of the concepts that gives Halloween its massive popularity is the films psychotic killer Michael Myers who’s pysical presense and mysterious background left audience shacking in their boots. Jamie Lee Curtis daughter of Psycho star Janet Lee was casted as the pure and virginal heroine that out-wits Michael Myers. Donald Pleasence played Michael Myers doctor who is hunting Michael down after he escapes from the hospital.
The basic story is Michael Myers killed his sister at the begining of the film andas a result get’s commited into the psychiatric hospital. Fifteen year’s later he escapes and stalks Laurie Strode played b Jamie Lee Curtis and her friends. When Halloween night comes around he goes on a killing spree that Haddonfield would never forget.
The plot sounds simple but thats the beauty of Halloween even though the film is very simple to explain it has so much more to give. Along with the Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Halloween was one of the first slasher films. Its a true horror classic and will be remebered for its great story, amazing directing and the outstanding performance from Jamie Lee Curtis. Halloween made horror original it was rebelious and made a lot of money, my advice to Hollywood is to stop making remake’s and start making film like Halloween again. Halloween will forever be in my mind one of the scariest films ever made and if the story isn’t enough check out the ending, those who have seen it might know what I mean. It has spawned a franchise that has produced 8 sequels including number three and two remakes but none of them beat the original.
Thanks for reading more reviews on the way.
Peace.
This is my favorite horror film from the 70′s, along with some others. My second time, rating it.
This is one of my favorite horror movies, it is definietly a classic that relies more on suspense than blood which I think is great. It also launched Jamie Lee Curtis as a scream queen. So I give it a 9/10.
THE GREATEST FILM EVER MADE!!! This films pretty much changed my life. The first time i watched this was at aged 7. I was very disrespectful towards my dad one day and he knew anything scared me. So as a punishment, he made me watch this masterpiece. My reaction was the best 91 minutes of my life!!! John Carpenter is a living legend and changed the Horror Genre forever. He’s also changed my life. I idolise both this film and all of Carpenter’s others (apart from Ghosts of Mars). But this is just AMZAZING!!!
Not the greatest horror film ever made like most Michael Myers enthusiasts claim it to be, but it is still an effective movie that holds up today.
Best slasher movie ever made! If you haven’t seen it, what are you waiting for.
This is the definitive slasher film. John Carpenter’s direction was superb, and Nick Castle is the man for playing Michael Myers. This movie knows how to build suspense. You never know when Michael is going to attack. He’s always stalking his victims, then moves in for the kill. Most of the time in the movie you see him, and then he just disappears, like some kind of supernatural thing. This is truly the greatest film ever made by Carpenter.
The first true slasher movie. A masterpiece of cinema. Creepy yet tense.
The first true slasher movie. A masterpiece of cinema. Creepy yet tense.
The first time we ever see Michael Myers is when he murders his sister Judith. Since that first time we ever saw him as a seemingly innocent cute little boy dressed in a clown costume, he has become a legend and even if you are a horror fan or not, you should be familiar with his name.
I’m going to admit, I was never big on the Halloween franchise growing up because I simply never watched them. I didn’t know much about them and I thought Michael was just an undead zombie killing machine, much like Jason Voorehees. Being the horror enthusiast that I am, I couldn’t not watch the movie when I was older. I did and I can say that I enjoyed it even more than I expected. The creepiness of the silent killer, only hearing his breathing as he stalk his victims, was very effective and even had me pretty creeped out the entire movie, something that isn’t easy.
It’s truly a classic, and although I wouldn’t agree with them, I can see why some say it is the greatest horror movie, or just movie in general, ever made.
This is my favorite horror movie i just love this movie. All in this movie is perfect and i dont know how many times ive watched this movie.
Simply perfect. Must see
This is a movie that I can watch over and over again, it never gets boring. I love this movie and it is definitely one of my favourites.
