A pretty depressing film, the gun suicide of the girl in the van was terrible & unrealistic, the prolonged suspension of the guy on the meathook was too far out. While Leatherface looked good here-he is so brutal & cold. As usual R L Ermey was the only real star here as Hoyt.
one of the best remakes made! Leatherface was terrifying, the movie had blood and, gore, a good story, a good ending this movie has everything. I wish there was an unrated version.
Excellent Remake.
I first viewed this film when I was 10 and I can honestly say that I didn’t want to go to sleep that night. This film is nothing but relentless the whole film from begining to end. What helped this film embrace its horror was the tagline. Inspired by a true story. When youre 10 those words are the scariest shit you will ever hear while viewing a horror film. This film isn’t for the faint of heart.
I didn’t even make it through the whole movie…
The first and scariest slasher movie i saw was perfect in any way good chasing scene, the hot jessica biel, good acting, scary and of course tons of blood.
Im a big Fan of the original….and was hoping and waiting for the remake to get the expirience on the big screen…. went in , saw , went out drepressed i wasnt expecting something as good as the original but this one was plain bad
let me say that the original TCM was slasher personified and when i heard about the remake i was sceptical but now ive seen the new version i was blown away.the way that Micheal Bay captured the sheriff as a awful human being was disgustingly brilliant. The kills were awesome and of course Leatherface kicked ass !!!! All in all a awesome movie to go rent out with freinds or your date AWESOME !!!!
Im a big fan of leatherface and the texas chainsaw massacre movies. this remake is bullcrap and I hate it.
its not scary and the storyline sucks
leatherface looks like a wuzz.
i vote for a new remake.
Not bad, but it doesn’t really work, does it?
*** This comment may contain spoilers ***
The idea of remaking The Texas Chain Saw Massacre isn’t really a new one – two of the sequels to the original practically did just that, reworking rather than continuing the storyline.
Speaking of sequels, then this remake is preferable to at least two of them, but somehow doesn’t quite come off. It’s very much a contemporary update, the decision to go for a bookending “documentary realism” style completely undermined by the usage of non-diagegic music throughout.
There’s too much added, too much muddying what is a very simple story: interbred madman kills people with a chain saw. Here we get a legion of contrivances keeping the photogenic leads from getting away, while the token disabled character has changed from being one of the good guys to one of the villains.
Plot isn’t necessary in a horror film that relies on visceral thrills, but plot is what we get, as well as an overlong coda and extraneous characters. More to the point, it just isn’t scary. Leatherface comes and goes as the script dictates, while gore and sexual titillation take over.
Certainly not an awful film or an awful remake, this is nevertheless an inessential piece of cinema.
I don’t know if I liked this or not. Maybe this is too early to write a review without really digesting it, but, oh well.
First and foremost, do not let the title trick you into thinking you’re about to experience extreme gore. Minus the suicide scene, the rest of the movie could have easily gotten a PG-13 rating. After that point all the kills are cut-off scenes. There is less blood than in the original (PG rated) Star Wars and way less gore than the (also PG rated) Indiana Jones flicks. I cannot really describe how pansy-like the kills were done. Yes, a guy gets his balls cut in half–no, they don’t even come close to showing even the after carnage, much less the actual event. They couldn’t even show a chick get mangled by the chainsaw–you just see feathers flying from her coat, not even blood. The back cover says, “The most hardcore film of the year!” but it seems to forget that Saw also came out in 2004. Though the original Saw was far from a bloodbath, and by far the least gory in the series, it makes this movie look like a children’s cartoon.
Besides that insanely disappointing fact, the movie itself was well done . . . for about the first hour. The old man in the wheelchair, the sheriff, the calm-speaking old ladies: all that was gold. The first chainsaw attack was very suspenseful. The jump scenes were actually slightly creative. The horror staple, the slow opening that is meant to make you care about the characters, is well done.
The main problem comes when you first see Leatherface. I wish they would have just left out the cheesy bits about him cutting off faces and sewing them up to his own. They could have just shown him have different severed faces, but no, they had to SHOW the lame cliché of him sewing them and such. I think that was when I lost all hope I could take this movie seriously. That cliché is used so many times it’s no longer disturbing as much as cheesy. Yes, I know the original TCM was the movie that started the cliché, but they could have just cut around it for the sake of modern audiences. I would have taken the movie SO much more seriously if I didn’t have to keep myself from laughing at that scene. It gave me flashbacks to the cheesiest movie ever made: The Phantom of the Opera. Leatherface himself was slightly cheesy as well. Nowhere near as cool as he used to be, but they could have been lamer.
Though it seems like I’m being negative, I actually did like this movie. I’m just writing this to people don’t get the wrong impression. (1)Do not expect a gory movie. (2)Do not expect an amazing well-done last 50 minutes. (3)You may find it quite cheesy at points because the directors were too stupid to leave out the clichés.
7.5/10.
my lil bro fell asleep and piss the seat in the theater
it was okay kinda boring the original was scary the remake was not.
“To many critics and fans across the world, Tobe Hooper’s legendary debut film, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, is one of the most influential and powerful horror films ever made. Based on the real case of Ed Gein, Hooper’s film quickly gained its legendary status due to its original mix of gritty realism and nightmarish imagery that (intentionaly or not, it’s up to debate) reinvented horror films and set the basis for the 70s new breed of independent horror filmmakers. Now, almost 30 years after the release of Hooper’s film, producer Michael Bay and director Marcus Nispel attempt to bring the story to a new generation by giving new flesh to the classic story of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
The story, written by Scott Kosar, follows closely the original’s basic plot, although of course, it adds it’s own brand new touches in order to make it fresh and different. Set in the 70s, the plot follows a group of 5 friends in their travel across Texas on their way to a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert, as their last adventure before entering college. As the gang travel across the country, they notice a strange young woman walking down the road. Thinking she is a drugged hitchhiker, they pick her up and try to discover what is happening to her, but the effort proves to be futile as the woman kills herself with a gun she was carrying. In the middle of nowhere and without knowing what to do with the corpse, they try to find the county’s sheriff, but soon they’ll discover that in this rural Texan area, law is very different, and that the Saw is the family.
The first noticeable characteristic of this remake of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, is the very different visual approach that director Marcus Nispel gives to the story. While Hooper’s classic had a raw, gritty, and documentary-like look (most definitely due to low-budget); Nispel’s film takes full advantage of its considerable bigger budget and delivers a visually arresting film with wonderful special effects and a brilliant work of the make-up department that really give new flesh to the legendary “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. This is not really a surprise, as Nispel’s previous career consisted of excellent music videos, what is truly a surprise is the fact that this graphic approach to the story works remarkably well, and in fact gives the movie an identity of its own.
While Nispel’s direction of the film is very good, one can’t say the same about Scott Kosar’s modernization of Henkel and Hooper’s original screenplay. Kosar’s take on the story is appropriate, keeping faithful to the original’s core plot while adding enough changes to make it fresh and different. While this is not really wrong in a remake (it’s in fact, the proper way to remake a film), the problem is that Kosar’s changes doesn’t really work under the concept of what “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” is, I mean, Kosar fails to capture the essence of the original and delivers simply another typical and clichéd story about teenagers getting slaughtered. To be fair, the story is suspenseful and intense, but looks boring and average when it gets the unavoidable comparison to the original.
The cast is another of the film’s traits that compares unfavorably to the original. While in the 1974 version the group of friends showed a naiveness and innocence that made them real and sympathetic, in the remake we get exactly the series of stereotypes that ironically have populated the horror genre after the original’s success. The fact that the actors seem to be chosen based more on their looks than on their acting skills increases this notion of falseness that sadly makes the film less real. However, not everything is wrong in the film’s cast, as the group of “villians” (led by a magnificent R. Lee Ermey) offer an arrange of excellent performances and wonderful scenes. Along with Ermey, Terrence Evans and Scott Martin Gershin deliver frightening and worthy displays of talent.
As written above, the film’s main problem is how it constantly compares unfavorably to the original. While Nispel does his best job as first time director, in the end, it’s Koser’s screenplay what ultimately brings the film down with its clichés and doses of political correctness (while far gorier, the movie feels oddly tamer than Hooper’s). Still, I don’t really think this is a completely bad horror movie, it’s in fact better than most of the recent remakes; the problem I find is that by having the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” name, it forces an unnecessary and unfavorable comparison that takes down a film that probably would had been better without the relation to Hooper’s classic.
When watched as a remake, this new version of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” can feel like an insult to a classic film, but if one forgets for a second that this is a remake, there is good entertainment to get from it.” –José Luis Rivera Mendoza (jluis1984), imdb.com
this is bad ass
The lack of a thousand characters was a plus. When people get killed in movies where you don’t even know the person’s name I just don’t give a shit. In this movie, the people who are just in the way get conveniatly killed off first then once the dust settles you follow the movie into a whirlpool of personal reality breaking decisions that the characters have to go through. I don’t know about you but this made me care for them and hate the killer(s). This is why movies like Wolf Creek, Vancancy and Identity worked so well. It didn’t just bring on the fear, it brought on the tugging of my heartstrings and the deppression over a death.
awesome remake! will watch many times!
One of the best horror remakes I’ve seen, the best “sequel” since the original.
Well I’m not a fan of remakes but this franchise definitely needed one for 3 times in a row they gave us Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 A complete horrible horror-comedy type. Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III A horrible film not as bad as part 2 and of course the second worst sequel in existence The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation. This was a decent film a decent remake Thomas Hewirt is no Bubba Sawyer but this was a good film very gory chainsaw scenes were scary and Jessica Beil is hot as hell. I didn’t like some parts of the film some parts were kinda boring but still a good remake.
One of the best remakes out there. It’s thrilling, it’s atmospheric and at times, genuinely scary. I really enjoyed this.
You have to give this film a lot of credit; they actually tried (and succeeded) in making a very scary and creepy movie. Die hard horror fans know that gore and things that make you jump make a pretty good horror movie, but what makes a great one is dread – the fear of what is going to happen. There is a lot of great tension and creepy atmosphere before the kill scenes. Gotta love it – I did!
I liked this much better than the original, but my favorite leatherface film is still part 2 , nothing beats chop top and leatherface in that one. but speaking on this remake, it has great acting with a wonderful cast of villians as the family of course led by r. lee ermy.
brutal, intense.
a great remaked
I loved the original and I loved the remake. Obviously the opinion can be very polarizing when you have people who hold the original on such a high pedestal that nothing will ever compare. But for the first time in a LONG time I was truly feeling the tension and dread that this film presented. Leatherface was more of a sawed off monster instead of a subservient cross-dresser and Andrew Bryniarski played him perfectly. Along with the remade Hills Have Eyes, this was a remake that stands shoulder to shoulder with it’s sire. I may even say it’s better…but I might get dismembered around these parts.
best remake ever!!!! great movie. love leatherface!!!
Jessica Biel make’s the movie, and leatherface of course.
This was actually a good movie and a good remake
I’m a fan of the original series, but I actually like the remake better.
I think this is one of te best remakes ive ever seen. I dont care what anybody else says. This was a badass movie.
I liked it better then the original. It was gorier and scarier.
This Movie is truely deranged, demented, evil, scary, intense and extremely entertaining. From beginning to end the suspense never stops, there is not one dull moment. The acting is well done, especially by the crazy sheriff and anyone in the Hewitt residence. This movie got to me in ways others dont. It is a believable story in which i can place myself and become truly terrified. From the Van to the basement, every environment the characters come upon are intriguing. This is definitely my favorite horror movie i have ever seen. Not to mention Jessica Biel in her tight jeans and tiny tank top tied up around her stomach makes her one of the hottest women i have ever seen in any movie, or horror movie for that matter
Out of any of the remakes the texas chainsaw massacre is the best. The story is almost exactly like the original in 74, a few scenes were different but much of the movie is like the original. Any R.Lee Emery fan would have to check out this film. The cast was well done, jessica biel and jonathon tucker were standout characters. Texas chainsaw massacre the begining was just as good as this remake and all horror fans should check that out as well, its has the back story of how it all began, a few things i wasnt even aware of untill i saw that movie and was SHOCKED!
This is a great remake and a good improvement on the original . Even though the original is the best this one had so many good things going for it. The first was bringing back the original DOP Daniel Pearl. He lenses this film and gave it a gritty nasty feel which tied in well with the overall feeling of the movie which was dirty and disgusting. I felt like taking a shower after it. More blood , more gore and a killer final act/ chase scene that really gets the adrenaline pumping, this film is a winner!!! Hopefully Marcus Nispel can do the same with the upcoming Friday the 13th.
I thought that the remake of the original tcm was just awesome.
Storyline: A group of friends travel through town only to be hunted down and murdered by leatherface and his psycho cannibalistic family. The group is split up and filled with terror as they are slaughtered down one by one. 10/10
Acting: Perfect, the actors really did an amazing job on this film. Some of the scenes I felt the fear that the actors displayed, really good job. 10/10
Special Effects: Pretty damn realistic! If you wanted it any more real you would have to do it in real life. 10/10
Best Scene: When the girl gets chased by leaterface at the end. 10/10
Ending: Poor leatherface gets his arm cut off
and the girl gets away >:( (leatherface didn’t deserve that!) 8/10
Overall the movie was one of the most adrenalne fueled thrill ride horror flicks I have seen in a long time, I give the remake of tcm a 10/10
This is one of the most over rated film i’ve seen, I don’t understand whats so good about it! A bunch of kids pick up a hitch hiker (which you must’nt do my dear children) she blows her head off and the kids get strandered in a part of texas with a crazy policemen! This film is quite boring actually there isn’t enough chainsaw action for a film titled “The Texas CHAINSAW Massacre” the only good bits were when leatherface chased the kids with a chainsaw (which face it wasn’t that many times!) and the ending where the suspense kicks in big time! The movie was way too hyped and I had hoped for more the film is mostly about the crazy policemen than leatherface which pissed me off to be honest

This is a great movie. I love Platinum Dunes. I love the casting of this movie. I love Jessica Biel in her low cut tight jeans. Very well done movie.
This film bored me. I must admit that i went into the theater not at all excited to see this.I was expecting a polished, watered down, Hollywood re-make aimed at people in their early teens. And i got exactly that. Damn shame too, because this film contains some of the finest set decoration in recent years.
Badass remake.
loved every second and i love Erica Leerhsen she can do nothing wrong by me
This remake was pretty good I hope the Friday the 13th remake is like this!
The fanboys of the dreadful original will surely hate this, anyway! I thought it was a very solid movie. Was kind of low of the gore(which wa fine because we all know gore doesnt equal scary). Its wonderfully shot, the acting is great, the setting and the look of everything is nice and gritty, just over all a good movie. Isnt as disturbing as I would have liked it, but overall very good.
Pretty much removed everything I liked about the original, leaving me with just another annoying 00′s decade horror movie I didn’t care for. Not bad if you like this style of horror movie, but not my personal cup of tea.
Great movie! All the actors and actresses are absolutely brilliant and the feel of the movie is definitely true to the original TCM feel. An amazing “remake”, even though I feel like it is very original. Great job! Hopefully Platinum Dunes and Nispel can make another great one with F13!
this is a GREAT remake!
its so suspenseful keeps you at the edge of your seat! you will be finding yourself biting your nails for the survival of the cast!
this movie was amazing, but the only thing that i wish was changed was that the main character lived in the end…
This is a good director. He should’ve remade Halloween. He should also direct A nightmare on elm street, Child’s play, and Hellraiser. And you also need the same writers from Friday the 13th remake. This movie was intense. Leatherface getting his arm chopped off though kinda pissed me off. Now if they make a sequal he’s only gonna have one arm.
To be honest I have to say this movie was not as good as the original. I didn’t feel anything that I felt when I watched the original. As a movie it was good, as a Horror movie it was lacking.
Good movie.
Leatherface in the remake was scarier than the original IMO, but the movie was so much less scary than the original.
good remake they stuck with the main story but added new tones, charecters(yay uncle monte!)and r lee ermy as sherrif hoyt great casting decision!!! I realy enjoyed this it will never be the origional but what a great rehash!
This new turn on the original screenplay is just fantastic. I could have never thought I would enjoy it so much. This is probably the best modern remake ever made in my opinion, as the original wasn’t made in the 30′s. Talking about storytelling, this is clearly the work of someone concern about the hardcore audience, but yet willing to make a movie accessible to all. Making a movie that has great cinematography and yet still has that “in your face” feel to it when needed. Casting R. Lee Ermey as sheriff Hoyt was not an easy move from Nispel as many expectations would have to be fulfilled. Mission accomplished. Ermey ripped the part and delivered one of his best performances ever. Another thing that made this movie a great film is that the protagonists are not as annoying as in other movies of that genre. Trying to smuggle weed in a Volkswagen kombi actually sounds like a pretty nice bunch of people. Off course we had Jessica Biel running around in a tight, wet shirt, but that’s still miles away from a lame-ass scene out of ANY teen slasher movie with naked cheerleaders giving head in a dark boilier room. If I had to show a TCM flick to anyone under 20, that’s the one I’ll go for…
As soon as I found out there was a remake of The Texas chain saw massacre I immediately thought “Oh, here we go again. Hollywood has no fresh or inventive ideas anymore”. While that statement still stands correctly, The Texas chain saw massacre is probably one of the best remakes I’ve seen in along time.
The new Texas chain saw massacre, while shares the same character Leatherface, has a completely different back story. About a group of teenagers traveling to, supposedly buy more pot. They stumble along a hitchhiker who they pick up in their van. The hitchhiker (Minor spoilers) takes a gun to her mouth and shoots herself. (End of minor spoiler) Then the teenagers also stumble on the infamous Leatherface and his psycho family.
The newest upgrade of Texas is surprisingly, well-made. I could now see why people say the remake is better than the original. It’s more enticing, suspenseful, and doesn’t fail to let the blood splatter here and then. The acting is dare I say, actually recommendable. Sure, the teenagers can play annoying roles and yet at the same time they can play terrified or appealing characters.
The best part of Texas is it doesn’t spend too much time creating dialogue or focusing on the teenager’s activities. It goes straight to the point. It builds fear, a phenomenal climax, and some gruesome, bloody kills here and there. Marcus Nipel sure did know what he was doing. While Jessica Biel is hot, she is also fantastic at playing the lead character. And that’s not a sarcastic comment.
The Texas Chain saw massacre remake is highly recommended. This was a fresh entry in the Chain saw franchise. Both the original and remake are both outstanding and both suspenseful. If you liked this outing try other phenomenal modern remakes such as My bloody valentine 3-D. The new Texas will not leave fans of the original or new beginners of the Chain saw franchise stranded.
this is the second remake next to the shitty psycho one. this remake is good for 6 resons
1. leatherface looks scarier
2. leatherface IS scarier
3. theres blood,gore,and missing limbs
4. the house is scarier, inside and outside
5. leatherface’s torcher room is scarier
6. they stuck with the story
I just watched it for the first time today( I know im a little late to tthe game), and i must say i wish i hadn’t waited so long. This movie rocked. It had a great feel to it and it showed you what you wanted to see( Maybe not enough gore for some though). Scary and a good cast. I personally enjoyed it more then the original.
A Solid Remake.
I really liked this movie but the one thing that totally sucked was that it wasnt gorey at all. It really wasnt. Jessica biel is a dime.
I thought this movie rocked and I am HUGE fan of the original. This movie was creepy as the first but in a different way. Loved it! Check out The Beginning. It’s almost as good!
not my favourite of the michael bay remakes but perfectly okay, not the biggest chainsaw massacre fan just awright check it out
This is the only movie in my life to give me nightmares. And they have been on and off recurring ever since. IMO this is the single scariest film ever made. Blowing the original out of the water (though I do also love the original). This is an example of a remake that did what remakes set out to do. Take the source material, use modern film making effects and techniques to make it even better. Bravo PD bravo.
This is what a horror film is. It’s intense, unrelenting, brutal, and gripping
Great horror movie, does the original justice!
Pretty scary and well acted!
It’s always nice to see a good remake like this one!
AMAZING remake. a movie that can actually make you uneasy if watched alone and at the right time of night.
I hate to admit it, but this movie just rocks more than the original. Plus, it brought back brutal, violent horror films (whether or not you ascertain that as good or bad); no more of the crappy PG-13 half assed Scream wannabes. Mad props.
Plus Erica Leehrsen and Jessica Beil are easy on the eyes.
great movie
GREAT!
I liked this movie. it’s a remake that is worth watching i’ll say that. I liked alot of things about this movie. The special effects were good, the gore was good. The acting was pretty good. I think the writers and director did a great job on this movie!
A great re-make. There’s absolutely nothing happy about this film and i love it. Very dark and disturbing.
Not the best horror remake. I’m really sad that they tried to tone down the gore, that would’ve made it that much better. Still a pretty solid movie. Jessica Biel is a (smart) babe, and this is one of the scariest looking Leatherfaces you’ll ever see.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was actually a surprise to me because i was thinking it was just gonna be some shitty remake but i must admit, it was really good. Its not even considered a remake, its more considered a sequel than a remake. Leatherface looks so creepy in this movie. He looks the coolest in this movie than any other texas chainsaw film.
Marcus Nispel knows how to make a horror movie.
i recommend seeing this movie.
This was actually a great remake. There, I said it. I loved this movie. Not as good as the original of course, but one hell of a remake. The acting was terrible though, but the overall look, feel and sheer horror of this movie was brutal and imense!
8/10
great movie! Jessica Biel’s a fine piece too so that helps.
Ok, as far as Remakes go, this ones Pretty good..Actually, take out the Character of Leatherface, and you don’t really have much connection to the Original! Once again though, this Movie does start out in 1973 and a Van Load of 5 Young People “Hippies” find themselves sidetracked by a Family of Crazies! From there though, this Movie tends to stand on its own. Unlike the Original, these Characters get “Toyed” with by the Family instead of just Immediately Killing them. From there it becomes a battle for Survival and outwitting the “Family”. The Characters of the “Kids” are Drawn out and the Acting Unusually Good for this kind of Movie and you care about what happens to them, and yes, Jessica Biel makes looking “Hot” seem easy. You even find yourself HATING on that “Sheriff Hoyt” Played Brilliantly by R L Ermey!! This Movie was enjoyable to the very end and after seeing it, I actually left the Theater “Hoping” for another Sequel or the very least a Resurrection of this Series cause after TCM “The Next Generation” all hope seemed lost! Although not in my opinion as ‘terrifying” as the original or as “RAW”, This Remake still is worth a Look. Long Live The Saw!!
Love this movie. Truely terrifying and extremely satisfying. I just love this movie. The story, the mood, the characters, the suspense…
This really is the perfect slasher film. Sure it’s nothing like the magnificent original. But it’s as great in a completely different way. It’s perfected pop horror. A culmination of years of trying to get the right mix of brutality, terror and gore and not cross over the line but ride it. the performances are strong, the cinematography is beautiful and grotesque. And the film has a surprising amount of emotional depth. And like any great remake of which there are few it takes the source material and does something fresh with it making for one hell of an unrelening nightmarish thrill ride.
Leatherface looked great in here and it’s always a pleasure to see R. Lee Ermey. Nevertheless: overall an unspectacular, boring and unscary remake.
Probably one of the greater remakes around.
wow!!! just enjoy it . fuck you nispel your friday the 13th is realy crap but this movie is great
Great Remake. It was a nice suspenseful film. I recommend a movie rental for those who haven’t seen it, also if you collect horror films this should be added.
People give this movie alot of shit, but I LOVED this movie. I went to the movies when it first came out and had a ball in the theater. Leatherface is amazing, hes such a beast. Andrew is the best Leatherface since Gunnar imo and he sometimes surpasses Gunnar in alot of aspects. Definetly one of he best remakes to date. P.S. Jessica Biel is sexy as hell in it too.
very scary! The origanal and the second remake was scarier but still great job!
a pretty damn good remake, I must say I did’nt like the ending, its hard to take your eyes off Jessica Beil when she’s on screen, and Leatherface is badass, though I kinda disagreed with how they tried to make him more of a monster that a crazy hick.and they should have never revealed his true face.Beautifully shot and very atmospheric, but in the end, I must take Bubba Sawyer over Thomas Hewitt, but I definetly got my moneys worth at the theater, its just hard to favor a remake over a movie that was made perfect the 1st time around, definetly worth watching though.
i only just looked at the original review on this site, and i can honestly say that although i find the original to be better, this movie had its moments.
in fact, i think this was more of an action film than it was a horror, everything happens so fast, and i don’t like the new Leatherface, mainly because he reveals his face and he kills people for their looks rather than their meat, like he did in the original.
Great remake!
In my opinion this is the best one in the series since the original. I hate the other sequels that came after the first one.
great remake, very dark and distubing 10/10
This is my Favorite Remake ever, alot of the times with remakes, you always have a hard time getting over the originals, but with this one I thought WOW what a movie. They had everything in it the scenes where frightening and the actors where great. Now to cut it up well the only thing i found was there could of been more scary chasing and killing and meat eating, they were cannibals afterall. Overall the best remake ive ever seen so far.
Pointless remake of a classic. Just a carbon copy of the original, ‘updated’ for a modern audience.
There are a few new scenes, but they overdo it in an attempt to ‘shock’ the audience. It just comes off lame and uninspired.
Derivative trash.
On of my favourite slasher remakes!
great,especially the ending.
this movie was amazing. it wasnt a remake at all it was more of a sequel like the charcters were different, different names personalities everything. i loved it and boy did it pack a fucking punch. it was dark and distrubing and i was legit scared. it was one of the first movies to literaly scare me yet i wanted more because it was so good
pretty good
Easily one of the better remakes of the last decade. The ending with the baby didn’t seem to fit the tone of the movie, but overall the film was pretty fucking killer.
this was a pretty good remake a good plot and good characters but they need to put more brutal, gory, stomach churning violence into a movie that has a person with a chainsaw killing people
A fine SEQUAL. I wouldn’t necessarily call this a remake. It has nothing to do with the original.
I can’t believe anyone on here likes this abomination!! I went into the theatre so excited and it turned out to be the biggest let down piece of shit! They should have called it a sequal instead of a remake, because, let’s face it, IT’S NOT A REMAKE!!! Complete change of story equals complete piece of shit!!
good remake
I have to say this is one of the best remakes I have ever seen. Great film and has a life of its own. Remake means a re-telling of a Tale.
Solid remake liked it a lot enough said.
Great movie and is a classic remake of a classic. This ranks along with Dawn of the Dead and The Hills Have Eyes in remake heaven. Only minor flaws that were wrong in the movie but nothing much. This is a awesome and solid film that feels emotionally draining and exiciting at times. This is one to be remembered. Even if it is related to Micheal Bay.
Still the best remake ever! And to be very honest, my favorite slasher flick since the Scream’s in the 90′s! I thought this movie was just bad ass in every way and even out did the original. How many times can we say that? And I loved the original but this movie delivered 100% and beyond! Jessica Biel is amazing in this along with the rest of the cast especially r. lee ermey.I can’t really say enough about this movie! And the ending??? OMG could it get anymore suspenseful? Damn, did it ever deliver!
Loved it loved the CAST!!!This remake was the BEST
of them all! Mike Vogel was in it etc., etc.,he’s
a HOTTIE!!!
I know I’m in the minority when I say this…but I like the remake better than the original, and it’s not often I can say that! I found the characters more interesting, the acting top notch, and the scares far more disturbing. Plus I really enjoyed the new Leatherface. I don’t know, the original’s always seemed silly to me, the way he’s spinning around in circles with the chainsaw, giving the people PLENTY of time to escape if they had half the brain to do so. I know the original is a classic, but this is one remake that rises above.
leatherface doesn’t need a back story. god it sucks
one of theee most perfect remakes out there
This is the remake that started it ALL! One of the first modern horror films for me to have watched, I loved this movie from it’s release at my tender age of 10. It has everything a great horror/slasher needs- creepy score, dark grisly visuals and some actually nasty carnage and grit. The characters are all interesting and fun to watch! I think this movie is a childhood gem to me lol. It’s Great! The prequel is also good, but not as good as this one
good show one of the best out of the series
I cant believe I never rated this movie :O
I thought it was good but really it could have been better
one of the better remakes.
Ok. i first saw this film when i was about 10 or 11 years old. yes im talking about this remake not the original. i saw this at a haunted house even held in the town beside mine. Actually, i never actually saw the whole thing. I saw the part where he is invetigating the one room and leatherface shows up behind him and gets him in the back with a sledgehammer, or axe. cant remember which. anyways. it scared the living shit out of me. i slept with the light on for a week…if i slept at all. Anyways, fast forward 7 years, i had the chance to view the film which caused me so much fear all that time ago and what i had to conclude with is that this movie rocks. Its keeps well to the feel and tone of the original while also being amazingly brutal and gut wrenching. one of the better “remakes” out there. Highly recommend this, highly dont recommend this for 10-11 year old lol.
I loved this movie, especially because I saw it when I was 13 and the opening scene really got me. It stuck in my head for weeks. I don’t feel this film got as much attention as is deserved from the general public and horror fans alike. The scare factor is great because it doesn’t rely strictly on gore and violence even though the movie is predominately filled with both. To me the creepiest parts of the movie were the town locals, the man in the wheelchair, diner folks, sheriff, and the trailer home family. Those are what really scared me especially knowing that there ARE people like that out there. The acting for relatively no name actors is phenomenal, and the violence is great but not over done. If you still haven’t seen this film I recommend it highly, fan of the original or not.
First things first: I am totally against Platinum Dunes, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and everything they stand for. Their reboot of Friday the 13th was a dissapointment and the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street was much worse than I expected. But, quite suprisingly, I enjoyed this one.
I have (as of this) seen the original so this film was my first in the TCM franchise. And i was pleasently suprised. This film is brutal, bloody and really scary. I found myself cringing at every death. The set design and look of the film is moody and is well underlined with a great score. Also, for a horror movie, the acting is pretty good.
The only problem is that it is too unrelenting, with not much in the way of a sense of humour. Occasionally, after seeing a group of people get fucked up with a chainsaw, you do need a rest.
Although I liked the film i think it leaves a sad legacy. What promised the arrival of some new horror talents unfortunately killed Robert Englund’s Freddy Krueger and resulted in a truely boring Friday the 13th. It’s hard to forgive that.
This sucked. The folks who produced this have some serious balls. Pass on this and watch Tobe Hooper’s “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” for an exercise in sustained terror. The original slays all-comers to the horror genre, with very few exceptions.
One of the best remakes ever made. Marcus Nispel may have totally fucked Friday the 13th, but he NAILED The Texas Chainsaw Massacre as good as he could have. No jokes, serious balls against the wall horror. One of the BEST horror films this side of the millenium.
Another decent remake by Marcus Nispel.. who also directed “Friday the 13th” which came out this year! anyways, the original “TCM” will always remain the best.. but this one was not bad for a remake! a very well crafted horror film and a wonderful spook show ride! Leatherface looks very creepy in this.. him running around with the chainsaw chasing people looked really intense.. had me cringing in my seat a bit.. i was at the edge of my seat right till the very end! what also impressed me was Jessica Biel’s performance.. it was really convincing! The only complaint I have is there really needed to be a bigger body count and more chainsaw deaths!
`The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ is a 2003 Remake based on the 1974 Original & based on the true events & inspired by a true story that happen on August 20th 1973, where police were dispatched to the remote farmhouse of Thomas Hewitt, a former head-skinner at a local slaughterhouse in Travis County, Texas. What they found within the confines of his cryptic residence was the butchered remains of 33 victims, a chilling discovery that shocked and horrified a nation in what many still call the most gruesome mass murder case of all time. At this very day after watching this movie Thomas Hewitt still scares me today as nobody ever find him & he could be still alive in his 50′s, 60′s or in his 70′s anywhere, which that really haunts me just think about & that the case has never been closed.
The Movie its self is a very decent remake (even know I still need to see the Original, which looks so good), The Movie was slow pacing, but I love the really information at the begging as an intro & at the end when you get to see the real leather face for a few seconds but they slow it down for us to see the only image of Thomas Hewitt & which I find to be the most scariest fact & information of The Texas Chainsaw Massacres (also it was really freaky when he was wearing faces of some of the victims he choice to do that).
The storyline/plot is pretty good, as some points in the film are boring but then other get you draw in & I really like true & real facts film that happen in history of life’s (e.g. like Titanic, United 93, World Trade Centre & other more like that) that becomes into movie & you get a glimpse of what people think would have happen & put into a movie, which I like those ideas and making happen or look really. This Movie always interreges me because of how it happen & 33 people died & Imaged that one survivor & told the polices & is one of the most notorious mass murders case of all time in Texas & in the nation of USA & is still an open case for the past 37 years of the year 2010.
It’s got an excellent amount of gore, violence, scares, body counts & information about the true events on Thomas Hewitt AKA “Leather Face” which he is the person that would horrify me if I did met him in that time, as for the acting by Jessica Biel, Jonathan Tucker, Erica Leerhsen, , Eric Balfour, David Dorfman, R. Lee Ermey were all prefect as I particularly praised R. Lee Ermey as the seconded creepiest & maddest person in the movie (to me) and the directors by Marcus Nispel was average for me as felt he did capture leather face but not neither or not a neither scares but is stranded directors by Marcus Nispel.
(Now I know alot of people are going to hate this review, which I am sorry but everyone has the own opinion on what they like or dislike about a movie, as I don’t have much of a probable with a remake, even know I love the original more always will do & that if they make them to quickly it just piss me off and am different differently going to see the original 1974 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre as soon as I can sooner rather than letter, but I can’t soo many I want to see its just when the right time to see it I will do.)
A great big budget remake. soon to be classic in its own right.
didn’t really like this movie very much. there were a couple scenes that were pretty cool but, a couple cool scenes does not a good movie make. i didn’t like R. Ermey very much in this movie, and that sucks cause i like him in all his other films but just couldn’t stand him in this one. gotta say the house was perfectly tailored to this movie, but the acting was so horrible that it just couldn’t make up for it. J. Biel is your typical hollywood chick- super hot, but not talented in any way unless she gets naked. bottom line- another crappy remake of a great movie.
A good remake
This is definitely a worthy installment into the series and quite possibly the BEST MODERN HORROR REMAKE to date… I loved everything about this film. The Cinematography was fantastic, the acting was great, the direction was on-point, and Andrew Bryniarski breathes new life into a character that was deemed deceased after “Next Generation”. It’s the comeback that the series needed. Leatherface is scary again and it goes without saying that “the BUZZ is back!”
This was good, but not as good as i expected.
An amazing remake to an amazing classic! Just as awesome as the original, but in a way, better since I love remakes much more than the originals.
These are the remakes that are needed, all in this film seems to achieve its objective and to honor the classic, very well directed with really strong, powerful and compelling moments.
This remake is on track to become a classic itself. Recommended.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake directed by Jonathan Liebesman is definitely one of the shittier slasher remakes. I mean this film doesnt capture the essence of the original at all. Thats what a remake is supposed to do. Just capture the essence of the original and just change it up a little bit. This film didnt do that at all. All in all I give this film a 2/10 because it was utter garbage. I might give it another chance sometime but not anytime soon.
Great remake.
My favorite part is when the crazy hitchhiker girl sticks the shotgun up her vagaygay. So yeah… anyway I’ve never actually seen this entire movie but from what I have seen it’s got pretty cheesy dialogue but is an adequate attempt at bringing an old idea back to the screen. I also liked that it wasn’t trying to really copy the original, it kind of made it’s own story.
A great remake. Nothing more unsettling than a demented family of crazy hicks. Keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. On par with the original.
I believe this remake has started the recent remake craze. Although I wont hold that against this film, its pretty solid.
Not as good as the first, but still quite entertaining.
SOLID remake… one of the very few I give a “pass” to.
Hobo Approved(TM)
Ive argued with friends and family that this is not a remake. its just another film in the leatherface series. i think its a amazing peace of work (a master peace at that) possibly the best leather face (apart from the original texas chainsaw massacre) full to the brim of suspense and disgust. the Erie setting in the deep south sets the amazing story of a group of stoner friends going to see the band “lynard skynard” that wish they had never even heard the word skynard before after picking up someone on a old texan road.
I have to say that today, when I sat down to watch both the original and the remake, I had high hopes for both.
The original to me, and I might get strung up for saying this, was awful. It has a solid plot, and a decent villain, but is ruined by shit acting and awful direction.
The remake, however, is not a remake at all-it’s a standalone film-and deserves to be seen as such.
A masterpiece of modern horror, and far better than the original.
There is an audience of movie-goers that enjoys what some call “shock cinema”. If you want a pretty good example of what “shock cinema” is, look toward, say, Wes Craven’s “The Last House on the Left”. And if you want an example that’s still pretty darn good, look no further; it is the remake of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. This is indeed shock cinema. It intends to shock and nothing more. Knowing that, maybe “The Last House on the Left” doesn’t qualify as one of these. That was a good film.
I say “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” is a good shock cinema film because it is. It shocked me. It was revolting. It was disgusting. And yeah, it was sick. Mission accomplished, Marcus Nispel. You’ve made a movie that bored me to tears because there wasn’t anything worth watching if I couldn’t watch the violence. Now, let the money pour in; and embrace that you made a trashy film.
I love “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, the Tobe Hooper original, because it belongs to a rare breed of slasher film. Few belong to this “rare breed” because people are neither daring enough (in the right ways) nor intelligent enough to make a good slasher film. Some can be delightfully campy, fun, and entertaining; meanwhile, this movie is incredibly unpleasant. Is it art? Is it a movie? No, it is neither. It is an exercise in stylistic violence; far more violent than the original film. Even worse, it misses the point of Tobe Hooper’s masterpiece. That film was a satire; and it was scary. This “Massacre” is a drag; and it isn’t scary.
The story is both a re-imagining and a rehash. It begins the same way; with a couple of teenagers heading somewhere, but this time, it is not a cemetery, but rather a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert. And this time, there is no creepy, psychotic hitchhiker; but there is a woman who graphically blows her brains out when the crew finds her on the side of the road. God knows why she was moaning, and why she was in such pain. Why did she blow her brains out? The kids are about to find out.
They go to report the suicide, and run into trouble. They meet person-after-person; each one linked in some way. There’s a sheriff, there’s an old lady, and many other quirky characters that seem oddly demeaning. And then the kids happen across a house, which contains the finest rotten beings in all of hell; one of them being the world-renown “Leatherface”.
Leatherface kills the kids off one-by-one, making this movie a formula thriller/horror film. A lot of work went into the gore department, which might impress some people. It was gruesome and disturbing, sure, but I don’t feel it was necessary. Is it thrilling or remotely scary? I wouldn’t say so, but others might disagree. Tobe Hooper himself said in an interview that he thinks this remake is scary and “fun”. Perhaps that is understandable coming from the man who unleashed the demented satire of his original film, but those who haven’t created brilliant insanity will probably realize that this film is, indeed, not the slightest bit fun. In fact, it’s unwatchable and mindless. It is not poorly acted; Jessica Biel is solid in the leading role, and beautiful as always. By the end, she’s a whimpering victim of Leatherface, and even then, she continues to convincingly play the part. There are a couple of other good performances to be found here, but nothing, and I mean nothing, can change my mind. I hated this movie; I despised it. It’s not the grossest of the gross films out there, but it’s just meaningless and violent enough for me to write it off almost completely.
Finally, I am not saying that this is amongst the worst horror films I’ve ever seen. It is not poorly made; the dialogue is bad but not revolting. However, the film itself is ugly and way too stylized for my tastes. There is some good cinematography to be found, and Nispel obviously enjoyed making use of set-design and whatever, but how he could enjoy making this crap is beyond me. And yes, even though it’s technically not a “bad horror film”, despite its lack of suspense or scares, this movie qualifies as crap. Glossy crap, and yes, that means that an audience will watch it and enjoy it. These people are pigs. Run away from them, at all costs, and while you’re at it, I’d say…run away from “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. See the original film; for it contains ingenious undertones of satire and it also has a sense of humor. Meanwhile, this remake is pathetic, and accomplishes nothing linked to intellectual pleasure and/or desire. I was so disgusted by its sleaziness, that I do not believe it has earned itself a proper rating. No stars, no points; no nothing.
not as good as the original, but still effect nonetheless.
Very good remake.
Most remakes suck, but this one’s good.
I personally thought the prequel “The Beginning” that was released a few years after this was better, but this is still good. Jessica Biel is sexy and has a great ass hot walking towards the house. Not enough gore or violence, but then again, the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre has virtually none anyway. Good movie though, I’d recommend it.
This is an awesome movie
Quite surprised by how much I enjoyed this film when it came out. More of a remaining than a sequel, which was a great way to go about it. I really liked this one!
I found this movie really amusing and enjoyable.
One of the very best remakes ever made. It a dark, brutal, depressing movie but I love it. Its an AMAZING horror movie. The actor are fantastic and give some of the most realistic performances I’ve ever seen. Jessica Biel carries the movie fantastically and gives a moving emotional performance. The meat hook scene is still one of the most memorable scenes in horror movie history. Another great aspect of the movie is the terrifying twisted family dynamic. They created amazingly frightening characters. Every time you hear the roar of the chainsaw you shutter a little bit inside. This movie is definitely not for the faint of heart but if your a true horror movie fan its a can’t miss.
The Ultimate Movie Review! – http://tss5078.blogspot.com – @tss5078 – I am a big fan of Horror movies, but believe it or not, this is the only version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre that I ever liked. The reason is simple, for this one, they actually got a real cast that include two of my favorite actors and the gorgeous Jessica Biel. This story isn’t any different than the other ones. A bunch of friends on a road trip take a wrong turn and find themselves being hunted by a mad man. The film is full of gore, bad jokes, and beautiful people, it’s really nothing out of the ordinary, except for the cast. Great actors can make anything entertaining, even the most bland and repetitive film gets new life when you introduce a cast like this. Three extremely talented and under appreciated actors, give support to the less experienced cast members, and while much of the film was focused on Biel and Leatherface, you could still see the influence of the veteran stars on the rest of this cast. If you don’t like Horror, this film won’t change your mind. If you’re looking for originality, you won’t find it here. If you’re looking for some good performances from a very talented cast, that is something The remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre will give you.
