This movie was so stupid I doint even know how they consider it a horror movie.
How the mighty have fallen.
M. Night, I will forever hold a place in my heart for you because you’re the dude responsible for ‘The Sixth Sense’ and the brilliant, ‘Unbreakable’… but shit man, the thrill is gone!
I dug ‘Signs’ up until the end, and any scene where you cast yourself (get over yourself, broseph). Then, trailers for ‘The Village’ started cycling and i was excited for one of your films all over again. The previews teases supernatural forces at work, monsters even… and man, what a cast! Definitely an “opening night” viewing for me.
Whoops.
The problem here, M. Night, is you’re guilty of a little thing I like to call “shitting the bed”. You had me sold on this story, these characters… the forces terrorizing the village. Bryce Dallas Howard was wonderful, as was William Hurt… everyone else was at the table as well. I would go as far to say your movie had me genuinely creeped out.
Then… you shit the bed.
You couldn’t just leave the damn movie alone and make it about monsters in the woods. Apparently that’s too easy and fucking cool. Instead, you had to live up to your gimmicky reputation and give us not ONE, but TWO FUCKING RIDICULOUS TWISTS! Both of which fall so flat I can still hear your movie hitting the fucking floor of the theater. If your intention was to deflate everything you spent an hour or so building up… you succeeded admirably.
My advice to you, ego-bag, is to drop the bullshit and see a movie through to the end without your contrived slaps in the face. If you sell one of your films as a monster movie, you better make a fucking monster movie. Don’t take some self-indulgent cinematic high ground and condescend to your fans with a lame-dick explanation for supernatural happenings. I think it’s cowardly and works against you.
You know what the crowd on opening night did when you thought you pulled the wool over?
They all laughed.
They laughed at you, and your piece of shit film.
Eh, it wasvery disappointing. You almost think it might be good, then oops just kidding its not. you might want to see this movie if you’ve run out of movies to watch or your really really really bored. but its not one i will be watching again.
Contrary to the negative user reviews, this movie is by far the best Shyamalan movie I’ve ever seen.
The first twist was amazing. The second one was alright, slightly cliché, but alright. Then it turned into a love story in the middle of some weird woods. I mean, there was so much genre switching in this movie how could you not at least like it?
I get why people hate it based on their love for his older work. I totally understand that. But if you’re a newcomer to Shyamalan with low expectations, this is probably the best of his movies to start with.
The only thing good is the trailer. His worst movie with Lady In The Water…
The movie has a predictable twist, and was marketed the wrong way, but may be worth a watch if you are bored.
Complete and utter shit.
minus 10 and a half.
I remember seeing this in the theater and thinking, “What utter shit.” You ever meet someone who like the exact opposite things you do? The only person i know who enjoyed this POS also liked Signs and the stand, both of which i detested. If you liked signs then watch this. If not, you’ve been warned.
This was not what I expected at all as the movie went on it wrapped it self into confusion and it has the stupidest ending i’ve ever seen! And it says this is a horror movie! There is nothing horror in this at all, the movies about these weird monsters in the forrest but it turns out theres only one scene in which the monsters come to the screen for a bit of scare but that was only liturally 6mins! This film bored me silly it is seriously boring BORING! Don’t waste your time watching this. I’m going to be watching the exorcist tonight A REAL HORROR!

one of the best movies ive ever seen
Hahaha SUX!!!! This dude needs to stop making movies. I wish someone would pay me to make suck ass shit.
one of the worst confusing, shocking but rubbish endings I have ever seen. Yes confusing films are fun and what not, and I’m sure it was making some comment on our dependence on the modern society, but come on! the adverts made it look good, and its not really
i was never really wanting to watch this movie because knew the ending because of scary movie 4 but we watched it in my english class and that it was okay we lauhed at it alot!!! it wass okay….
Fucking garbage plain & simple, this movie doesn’t even deserve to be on this site.
strange things happenin’ down at the old village with no medications, yellow jackets, cute blind girls, and odd romance in the brew.
there could’ve been much more to this, but it was pretty cool.
Ah yes, here it is: the beginning of Shamalamadingdong’s downfall.
This movie starts off so goddamn good, but the two most super obvious twists rear their ugly heads and ruin the hell out of what felt like the beginning of a thrilling masterpiece. The final frame was frustrating as all.
Bryce Dallas Howard’s sightless trip through the woods was actually pretty sweet, but not as creepy or as engaging as it was intended to be.
Ever since this movie, we’ve had let down after let down. So c’mon Shyamalan, don’t anally rape us again with The Last Airbender. Pleeeease?
This movie is so lame. I really thought that i was going to see a real horror film when my friends told me this was scary…guess not
Wow were do I begin. This movie started off good tan got really bad really fast. The ending……What the fuck M. Night. Im all for twists but this. Well what the hell they are probably aliens too but the aliens live with us the whole time and our planet is actually a hologram. Stop with the insane twists that make no sense.
Figuring that this movie would have a twist ending, I made up a stupid twist for it in my head at the beginning of the movie, one that was so over the top silly that no decent filmmaker would possibly put in their flick…
… and sadly, I actually guessed correctly.
Whoever made this movie needs to get in contact with that one guy who made The Sixth Sense. Now that guy could make a great ending!
But I’m not just lowering the score because of the horrid finale, but also for the horrid beginning and middle that you have to sit through to make it to the SHOCKING end. (Bruce Willis has been an alien that can’t open doors the entire time! *gasp!*)
The worst twist ending ever. I thought I was watching a monster movie as that was my intention and thats what was advertised but they sure did fuck that up.
I really enjoyed this movie, it was different and nowadays that is rare thing to say about a movie.
Have to agree. this a good film. some parts were pretty boring. The creature looked cool. Until you learn it’s the weirdo
What did you expect??? to be honest i think Shyamalan saved this movie with good directing…other than that there was great acting and a very intriguing story line…I have nothing but respect for this movie!
I had high, very high expectations for M. Night’s “The Village” after seeing his three masterpieces “The Sixth Sense”, “Signs”, and “Unbreakable” about a week ago. Unfortunately, “The Village” is a downwhirl spin in M. Night’s career. It is not bad in the slightest but the final product, is very mediocre. The performances were fine and the cinematography was nice but the script and dialogue were beyond atrocious. I, like all of you, expected a horror story and came across a horror, that turned into science fiction, then turned into a romance and then turned into a drama.
The problem that lies within this movie is that M. Night introduces WAY too many genres in this movie. What could have been such a simple movie about a creature stalking in the village and the fight for survival, would have been nearly double as effective as this convoluted concoction. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was disappointed with what I saw here. M. Night doesn’t have to make a homerun everytime (shoot, I would love a homerun everytime), but he has to make something good, not decent. I’d even settle for “an above average”. But average? This is not M. Night.
Overall, “The Village” is a disappointment and not at all what you’d expect- and in this case, that’s not a complement. Not awful by all means and shoot, the acting wasn’t bad, but the script was just awful. This movie also moved at a slow pace, and very tedious I might add. Just disappointing. M. Night, give us another “Sixth Sense” or “Signs”, we need it.
This movie would have been ok if it did not end the way it did. The movie just felt pointless by the end. I also found it to be kinda stupid at times. A big dissapointment for me. You can forget about this movie.
movie SUCKED!
I didn’t hate this movie like others apparently did, but it WAS a let down. I don’t know what I was expecting…definitely more of a creature feature based on the trailers, but of course, that’s not what we got. With that said, it was still entertaining, with good acting, likable characters, and an interesting premise…if not a little far fetched in the end. Not as good as The Sixth Sense, Signs, or Lady In The Water (another one I’m in the minority with liking), but a little better than Unbreakable, and much better than The Happening. I’d recommend it unless you have your heart set on a violent monster movie.
I didn’t expect such a low User Rating for this movie. Although I didn’t think it was spectacular I still enjoyed it. It had a good twist and more than enough creepy moments.
i loved the creppyness of this movie, scared me alot
Very predictably film find it to be boring more than anything else.
I’ve always been surprised at how much people dislike this film, as I very much enjoyed it. I think that a lot of people were thrown off by the end, but there is really no way the movie could have been marketed without ruining what actually happens. The Village is ultimately about the people living together and the motto of the movie is simply “people dont change”. You can take people and put them in different settings, intentionally trying to escape the horrors of the world, but those horrors will find you where ever you go.
Its really a shame that the ending prevented people from liking the movie. I suggest trying to re-watch it with a better mindset. The characters are great, and the movie carries so many beautiful ironies.
It’s a boring movie. Lack of suspense over the 40 min, and the rest was pretty predictable. The village deserves total oblivion. Don’t waste time with this crap unless you like dreadful predictable plots…
I loved this movie i think it was awesome it was not too scary but amazingly good
I don’t know really how to feel about this movie. The idea it self is good but execution wasn’t this films strong point. The twists were kind of predictable and they seem at times better if they weren’t in the script. Acting was a strong point and the directing was well done. But the script was so lacking in areas that it can’t be overlooked.
Dude, WHATEVER, I loved this movie.
One of Shyamalan’s best. Seriously intriguing plot, interesting characters, and awesome twist. Whole time keeps you guessing, very impressive.
