First Casting for James Wan’s Now Filming ‘Insidious’

Bloody Disgusting learned that Rose Byrne (Knowing, 28 Weeks Later, The Dead Girl, Sunshine), Patrick Wilson (Hard Candy, Watchmen, The Ledge) and Barbara Hershey (Black Swan, Riding the Bullet) have all been cast in James Wan’s latest horror entry, Insidious, which is currently lensing under the title “The Astral” here in Los Angeles. Re-teaming Wan with Saw co-writer Leigh Whannell, the pic follows a young family makes the terrifying discovery that the body of their comatose boy has become a magnet for malevolent entities, while his consciousness lies trapped in the dark and insidious realm known as The Further. TV: Behind-the-Scenes of NBC’s ‘Fear Itself’

Today a new behind-the-scenes featurette was posted for the Fear Itself episode “The Sacrifice”, which was directed by Breck Eisner. Check it out inside or click here for our exclusive clip. Premiering June 5 on NBC, “The Sacrifice” has a screenplay written by Mick Garris (“Riding the Bullet,” “Amazing Stories”), from a story by Del Howison (“Dark Delicacies”). Breck Eisner (“Creature from the Black Lagoon”) will direct. When four criminals find themselves stranded in an old, snow-covered fort, they slowly discover both the fort and the seductive trio of sirens who reside there are filled with deadly secrets. Release News on ‘Return of the Living Dead 4+5′

Fangoria has learned that the Return of the Living Dead sequels directed by Ellory Elkayem and scripted by William Butler and Aaron Strongoni will be released in the U.S. by indie distributor Freestyle Releasing. The company was formed last year by Susan Jackson, an executive producer on Cabin Fever, exploitation veteran Mark Borde and Mike Doban, and it previously handled the theatrical release of Mick Garris’ Riding the Bullet, among others. According to the sequels’ official website, ROTLD 4: Necropolis (review) and ROTLD 5: Rave from the Grave (review) will hit theaters October 7. (more…) READ MORE

The people over at Dread Central have gotten a look at Mick Garris’ Riding the Bullet. Mark Garris directing credits are such film’s as Critters 2 and The Stand. His new project, another Stephen King adaptation is about a man who has to hitchhike to visit his dying mother. However, things might be turning around when he is picked up by a mysterious stranger. The ride then turns into an unfortunate event as the man is given a choice, one that means life or death. The movie is set to be released October 15, 2004 in limited theaters and stars Jonathan Jackson, David Arquette, Erika Christensen and Max Headroom himself Matt Frewer.
