While Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) is currently in pre-production on Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, he’s already looking ahead to his next genre project signing on to write and direct the psychological supernatural horror Saint Mary’s. Billed as a psychological horror story about an evil presence in a disused mental asylum, Saint Mary’s details the story of a group of young people who are deliberately trapped inside a labyrinthine building where they find their deepest nightmares manifest themselves. Bassett will develop the screenplay with creator and co writer Matthew Kingshott, who has been developing the project with U.K. producer / composer James Edward Barker through Veneration Music. Bassett said when he read Matt’s script he said he “immediately felt that there was the essence of something incredibly interesting and potentially terrifying.” (more…) READ MORE
Next to the Silent Hill sequel news, the coolest thing we came across at the AFM were a few dozen first ever images from The Tall Man, Pascal Laugier’s follow-up horror film to Martyrs that stars Jessica Beil, Teach Grant, William Davis, Samantha Ferris, Jodelle Ferland, and Stephen McHattie. This is hands down my most anticipated indie film for 2011. Set in the town of Cold Rock, The Tall Man is a story of the haunting secrets that hide behind closed doors. With children gone missing over the years leaving neither a clue nor a witness, superstitious locals talk of ‘The Tall Man,’ a legendary, mysterious dark figure who takes children away never to be seen again. Bloody Disgusting has learned that Teach Grant (“Fringe,” “The Dead Zone,” Hard Ride to Hell ), William B. Davis (The X-Files, The Thaw, “Fear Itself”), Samantha Ferris (Grace, “Supernatural”) and a grown up Jodelle Ferland (Eclipse, Silent Hill, Case 39) will all be joining Jessica Beil in The Tall Man, a long time dream project for Martyrs director Pascal Laugier. Tall Man is a suspenseful thriller in the vein of the early films of M. Night Shyamalan, said an early statement. In theaters October 1 from Paramount Pictures is Christian Alvart’s (Antibodies, Pandorum) latest horror flick, Case 39, which centers on an idealistic social worker (Renée Zellweger) who saves an abused 10-year-old girl from her parents only to discover that things are not as they appear. Jodelle Ferland of Silent Hill, Ian McShane and Bradley Cooper (A-Team, The Hangover) also star. AMC continues to add to the cast of Frank Darabont’s apocalyptic zombie drama The Walking Dead by tapping Laurie Holden (Silent Hill) for the role of Andrea, a key member of the survivor group who has a proficiency with a sniper rifle and falls for a man twice her age. Holden was in writer-producer-director Darabont’s The Mist and had a recurring role in the final season of FX’s “The Shield.” In addition, newcomer Steven Yeun has been added to the cast as Glenn. He and Holden join Andrew Lincoln, Jeffrey DeMunn and Jon Bernthal on the show. The Image Comics adaptation is set among a group of zombie survivors of an apocalypse who are led by a police officer, Rick Grimes, in search of a safe place to live. (more…) READ MORE
Update: Watch the first clip over at Fandango (or below). A trio of new stills were posted online from the Breck Eisner directed redo of George A. Romero’s The Crazies, Overture Films’ latest arriving in theaters on February 26. The story revolves around the inhabitants of a small Kansas town who are beset by death and insanity after a plane crash lets loose a secret biological weapon into the water supply.
