Special Feature: ‘Scream 4,’ Slicing Into New Rules & Conventions

In the decade-plus period of time that has passed since the release of Scream 3, there’s no doubt that the horror landscape has changed significantly. In the intervening years we’ve witnessed the rise of the torture porn craze, seen a resurgence in “found footage”/shaky-cam horror, and watched helplessly as a seemingly unyielding series of remakes cluttered up our local multiplexes. High Profile Writer on ‘Children of the Corn’ Remake

I guess the Weinstein Company’s way of erasing public doubt is to announce a bunch of projects that we all know will NEVER happen. In an article about The Road (arriving in theaters October 16), it was revealed that Weinstein has tapped Ehren Kruger (The Skeleton Key, The Ring) to adapt Stephen King short story Children of the Corn, which tells the story of a boy preacher who persuades the children in a Nebraska town to kill all the adults. “Corn” was previously made into a feature in 1984 by New World Pictures, with a TV remake airing on SyFy soon. See what they had to say about the original below. (more…) READ MORE

I Shudder at the Thought of THIS ‘Videodrome’ Remake

I’m all for remakes, I really am, but if you’re going to do it, can you at least take it seriously? While Ehren Kruger stumbled his way into the writing job of The Ring remake (a film turned into a gem by director Gore Verbinski) and slightly entertained me with The Skeleton Key, his credentials don’t make me smile, especially after the painstaking garbage that was Blood and Chocolate (oh jeez, don’t remind me). Now the genre vet is putting his fingers all over one of my all-time favorite movies, David Cronenberg’s Videodrome. I won’t be eating that anymore. (more…) READ MORE

‘The Devil’s Rejects’ Can’t Take the Heat…

Lions Gate Films made a smart move this week in moving up their release date for Rob Zombie’s upcoming film, The Devil’s Rejects (review) from August 12th to July 22nd. Originally opening against Dark Water and the The Skeleton Key would have tanked the film. The spin-off to “House of 1000 Corpses” centers on a band of bounty hunters led by Sheriff Wydell’s brother who is fueled by revenge when he finds out that his kin was slain by the Firefly family. The film will pick up shortly after the first with the Firefly clan going on the road after their house is burned down and a few family members have been gunned down during a police raid.
