as i watched this movie all i could think is, “Are they Serious?”. i Was Trying to figure out if they were really trying to make this a scary movie or if they were trying to make it funny. it was kinda sad but funny yet disturbing.

I loved this movie, it was gross, gorey, hilarious, and surprisingly well made. Keep an open mind with this one and I assure you’ll be entertained. I almost feel sorry for anyone who doesn’t enjoy this.

This movie actually got me to jump a few times during the movie. There arent many films out there that have been able to do that to me. Not to mention it had me cringeing though there are a lot of gore scenes.

Man, this is such a fun cheezy movie. There is like one jump out scare and the rest of this movie is just sick stuff. I really enjoyed the movie and the fact i tricked my wife into watching it was great. This movie has some great lines and good effects. Could have been more gross but still pretty good. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes gross out effects with a light heart.

One of my alltime favorite monster/alien movies. Super fun, super funny, excellent practical effects, great soundtrack, awesome one liners (“Margret packs a box lunch.” and “now that’s some fucked up shit!”)

I like this movie for it’s comedic value. The actual story line, eh, they could have done more. But you get what you get.

The best part? The Mayor going ballistic over not having any Mr. Pibb.

This movie was good, but not anything special. It really seemed like more of a social commentary than a horror movie, which is refreshing (I like how all the chicks in the redneck town are all really fat, with only three exceptions…)
The film just doesn’t feel that solid, but the gore effects and deaths are top notch. Give it a try if you like the old Troma films or just want to have some light-hearted yet gory fun.

So, for me, this film is an anomaly. Horror / Comedy is perhaps my favorite genre. Dead Alive, Return of the Living Dead, Evil Dead II are all right at the top of my list, so needless to say, I was pumped when I saw the trailer for this flick. Everything about this film says that I should have loved it, so why did I walk out of the theatre feeling disappointed?? It’s got monsters, gore, humor, zombies, aliens, etc. I still can’t understand it, but I was not a fan. Maybe it was the pacing, maybe the balance of horror and humor was off, maybe I just need to see it again? In the end, I gotta give it a 5, but I’m planning on giving it another shot.

The movie is pretty good as a horror movie, with some quasi-funny dark humor. I think the humor is off-base and out of place, but the special effects are nice and gross. Michael Rooker never looked better. This is what he gets for being such a dickhead in JFK.(HaHa)The poor women who fall prey to the monster do so in unusual ways, so I like the movie for that right off the bat.

AWESOME! Ha ha! Like you don’t want to see Nathan Fillion as an only SEMI competent sheriff taking on slugs from another planet that turn people into zombies.

Sheer hilarity and brilliance. Could’ve done without some of the CG, but they keep it old school for the most part.

    The mayor cracks me up:

“Either of you ever seen anything like that? You even heard of anything like that? Huh? Me neither… and I watch Animal Planet all the fucking time!”

“Where is the Mr. Pibb? I told your secretary to pack Mr. Pibb. It’s the only Coke I like. Goddamn Brenda exploding like a water balloon, worms driving my friends around like they’re goddamn skin-cars, people are spitting acid at me, turning you into cottage cheese, and now there’s no fucking goddamn Mr. Pibb?!”

Comedic and horror gold. Should be on everyone’s cult classic list.

James Gunn, writer of the remake of Dawn of the Dead, shows off his directing abilities with Slither, a fun B-movie creature-feature that is as every bit hilarious as it is disturbingly scary. Much like Feast, it includes horror violence that is definitely not for the squeamish and funny dialogue. It is definitely one of the most entertaining and enjoyable films of its kind. The film has 10-out-of-10 quality entertainment; however, there are certain things that hold it back from being perfect. First, I know that the film takes place in a small redneck town bent on deer hunting season, but the characters act more stupid than they are. For example, after the scene where Grant attacks Starla, then escapes after the local law enforcement show up, the screen reads “3 Days Later.” That is when the police establish a pattern that Grant makes in his property invasions, looking for fresh meat to feed to Becky. You would think that maybe they would make a move after two days, considering after two days, they know the direction he is taking. Second, most of the gore and other effects that the film uses is CGI, and after awhile it becomes so cheesy. Fortunately, these two problems do not affect the entertainment value of the film. But, there are two more problems that do. Third, the film suffers from the same fate that Dog Soldiers did, and that was, “How much did you really like it?” Making myself question my opinion of the film makes me undermine it, and I do like to feel that way because of how good it is. Finally, sure it is funny, but sometimes the comedy seems to be forced into scenes that need absolutely no comedy. They would try to accomplish an eerie and disturbingly scary scene, and they would. But, the added comedic banter by characters like the sheriff and the mayor take the serious tone of the scene down a notch. It is as if the film had no confidence in its scariness when it is, in a disturbingly creepy way (two reasons: those worms are the creepiest little critters and when they take over the minds of Kylie’s little sisters, the sisters, especially the youngest, become some of the creepiest kids in horror). The film would have been just as funny if some of the comedy was taken away from the horror and placed in other scenes. Fortunately, the film is entertaining enough so the viewer can toss these problems aside and have a good time. This film has many positives as well. This movie displays some flat out, balls-to-the-fucking-wall horror violence and gore, even if some of it is CGI. In this film’s case, that does not matter because of how entertaining it is. Although some of it is forced, the comedic dialogue is completely hilarious and makes your guts want to burst. The mayor, Jack MacReady, provides most of it, one example unknowingly saying “Get the fuck out of the way, cocksucker!” in front of a mother and her child. Another example would be how he suggests that Grant is in the condition that he is in because of Lyme disease. The sheriff, Bill Pardy, is funny without saying anything witty. He just says the simplest of things like “Shit”, “You suck”, or “Much fucking worse”, and the audience is immediately in laughter, or maybe just giggling. The acting is well done and the location is nice (of course these fucked up events would take place in a small town full of deer-hunting rednecks). Anyway, Slither is fun, messy, monster/alien movie that is sure to be one of the best horror films that are put into theaters, at least. It is completely entertaining and should not be missed by any fan of horror.

This movie was one of the best parody/reworking of all those C budget Troma pictures, it had the right feel of it, the right plot and gore for it, the only difference between those films and this one is that this one was more like a A-budget version of a low Troma movie. This movie had everything that a good horror comedy should have, right down to the love interest of story. This movie had excessive horror (disturbing alien humanoids, gore, frightening attacks and zombies), it had a great sense of horror that was both perverted and lightened up the situations, there was a great cast and performance and a great plot, with some weird relationships mixed into it. Essentially this movie is about a small town that gets invaded by alien worms that are all interconnected to the “king” worm, which has taken over the body of one of the townsfolk. Now the town must ban together and fight the alien force before they become infected and become zombie drones or worse, part of the huge fleshy bulk of the king worm.

I will first congratulate the actors and actresses of this film, their performances really made this film worth watching, as well. Nathan Fillion, who stared in Serenity, plays the town sheriff and does a fantastic job playing a somewhat calm monotone man who can be really, unintentionally funny at points. Elizabeth Banks, who plays Starla the wife of Grant Grant, does a perfect job for the stereotypical damsel in distress. Her performance was absolutely perfect, even though her part did not demand that much of serious acting, she does a terrific job screaming and basically being a scream queen. Michael Rooker who plays Grant Grant, the most ideal and loving person in the whole town who becomes the “king worm.” His performance, from scene one to the last, was amazing and he really brought his character to life. He used his monotone voice, in accompanied with some funny moments involving his chest and some great scary moments when he slowly turns into the slug and when he is the “king slug.” Gregg Henry, who plays MacReady, plays the funniest person in the whole movie mostly because he is fowl mouth, sort of sex induced and just generally a big hoot, especially some of his rants that he goes on when the situation gets worse. There were also some great acting by Tania Saulnier and Haig Sutherland.

The scares in this movie were prime, mostly because they weren’t “jump out” scares, but rather graphic, gory and disturbing scares. Literally, as I mentioned before, it had the feel of a very gory Troma movie, which was a huge inspiration for writer and director James Gunn. Some of the most disturbing parts happen toward the end when people literally become part of the “king slug” and the whole process of body transformation that takes place. Some great scares came along with the little slugs that would fly into your mouth and try to take over you, the scarier scene was when the slugs invade a nuclear family and take over the little girls, mom and dad and the teenage girl has to save the day. There were some zombie moments, there were some great “Grant monster” moments but the one thing that separates this movie from the others is the consistent humor that lightens up the mood for horror fans. In conjunction with Fillion, this film had some hysterical moments involving play on words, heroines fighting back, rants and reactions to extreme situations.

The plot is packed with great special effects, disturbing images and a great love triangle, of sorts. It has everything from the awkward relationship of Grant and Starla, to the stereotypical relationship of the “cute” sheriff and the “hot” housewife of the mutated husband. It even has the secret affair between the husband and the wife’s sister and the inevitable consequences. This movie was certainly a great horror homage to one of the most famous b-movie studies ever, Troma. I really enjoyed this movie and even though there were some minor flaws including some stale acting and story expansion problems, this movie is still a favorite of mine. I would highly recommend this movie to anybody who enjoys movies of the gore and disturbing category and the Troma films. It is true what they say, the chicks in this movie are “hard-core.”

Before I say much, “Slither” is what it is. It’s a B-movie that aims for “The Evil Dead”-esque areas of camp, satire, and horror-comedy. For some, it’s gonna hit the target dead-on. For others, like me, it’s going to feel stale. If you LIKE to watch horror movies, and have a particularly strong stomach, then you may want to watch this. If not, then too bad; this is an easy skip. One moment funny, many moments gruesome, but seldom brilliant; “Slither” is an entertaining, but forgettable and unfullfilling ride.

And it’s not so much the ride that I mind. The film is crafted with efficiency and skill. I liked director James Gunn’s directorial vision; to create a so-bad-it’s-good gory horror movie that doesn’t feel cheap. And this one doesn’t feel cheap. In many ways, it gets “corny fun” more “right” than most films of its kind ever will. It has some humor embedded into the tight script, as well as some intended scares. The film is flamboyantly ridiculous, and never feels unpleasant enough to be a “bad” film. In fact, “Slither” has a nice vibe going throughout; one that makes it at least bearable, if not a little to misguiding. I just can’t shake the feeling that Gunn, as well as the actors involved, can do much better. But for the love of horror references and gory madness, this ain’t too bad. But it’s got one half of inspiration and the other filled with useless crap. You can’t do much with it in that sense.

The story takes place in a quiet town. It’s filled with some good people, some decent people, and indeed, some very boring people. They get along nicely enough in their little community, and at the time of the film’s beginning, we witness them all getting ready for a sort of annual ceremony; in which Deer Hunting Season begins. But oh, what’s this? Shortly before all this is introduced, we witness a meteor crashing somewhere nearby this town. In a nigh direct homage to “The Blob”, the strange, orb-like meteor lies there in the woods waiting to be discovered.

And when it does get discovered, it unleashes an army of evil, extraterrestrial slugs into the world, and presumably, onto the community. People are infected by the virus that the slugs spread, once they get inside of you. The virus makes you act like a George Romero-zombie, with slightly more hilarious after-effects, such as bloating body fat (one scene involving this reminds me of poor young Violet’s death from “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”, and many other excessively imaginative down-sides to being bitten, eaten, and absorbed by slimy parasites from outer-space.

It becomes a fight for survival sort of movie. We’re not supposed to care about the characters because frankly, this is a horror-comedy, so why should we? It’s not like we’re treated to much “character development” or “plot elements”, but then again, that’s not what this movie is all about. With all due respect, “Slither” does what it wants to do. It satirizes a simple zombie-apocalypse-uprising story, and puts comedy and buckets of gore into the mix. You mat be able to appreciate the silliness, but there’s something about this movie that just didn’t click to well with me. I kind of enjoyed myself; this was easy to do. I have the stomach, the sense of humor, and ability to switch my brain off for an hour and thirty minutes, that this film so-flamboyantly requires. What I do not possess is the tolerance for inconsistency and mediocrity, yet strangely, I don’t mind this movie. It’s not a shit-storm of bag CG, or a dull and unfunny farce, but it’s not as joyously, uproariously funny as it wants to be. A few good laughs; but not enough to make this movie good. My personal advice would be to skip it and waste your time on something better, but then again, you should consider the other option. “Slither” isn’t for everyone’s taste, but hey, if you enjoy B-horror movies; then here’s a loving and well-made homage for you.
