The Road to ‘Super 8′: An In-Depth Look at Master Steven Spielberg’s Exhilarating Career

Area 51 gives off more movie ammo than a storage room filled with AK47′s. Just about everyone who is anyone in the science fiction realm has touched upon the Nevada military base with their own story; their own theory into the existence of aliens and the trouble associated with this highly secure area of desert. Super 8 (sneak preview screenings today), one of the summer’s most highly anticipated films, will be crashing its way into theaters this Friday, complete with an array of disappearances, unexplained events, and the inhuman creature that has left moviegoers guessing for months. Stunning ‘Super 8′ IMAX Trailer Shifts Tone

Shifting away from the “scary” elements of the teaser and Super Bowl TV Spot, the brand new IMAX trailer for J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 bleeds Steven Spielberg films such as Goonies, E.T. and War of the Worlds, focusing on the kids more than the apparent creature. Something interesting to note is the references to “magnetism,” which also kind of reminds me of Joe Dante’s classic The Explorers. I honestly believe we have have a “true” Amblin production on our hands… READ MORE

Tom Cruise Heading to Del Toro’s ‘At the Mountains of Madness’?

We don’t usually report on “dream casting”, but you have to think Guillermo del Toro has enough weight to throw around to get whatever the heck he wants. Collider is reporting that Del Toro’s first choice casting for his At the Mountains of Madness adaptation is none other than Tom Cruise. They also report that Chris Pine’s name has been thrown around to also star in the 3-D pic being produced by James Cameron. Universal Pictures is producing this monster H.P. Lovecraft adaptation that tells the story of geologist William Dyer, a professor from Miskatonic University. He writes to disclose hitherto unknown and closely kept secrets in the hope that he can deter a planned and much publicized scientific expedition to Antarctica. On a previous expedition there, a party of scholars from Miskatonic University, led by Dyer, discovered fantastic and horrific ruins and a dangerous secret beyond a range of mountains taller than the Himalayas. Tom Cruise is no stranger to horror as he’s starred in Interview with the Vampire and War of the Worlds. Chris Pine starred in Carriers. (more…) READ MORE
