Blu-ray Review: Richard Kelly’s ‘The Box’

Warner Home Video has now released the DVD and Blu-ray for The Box, which stars Cameron Diaz, James Marsden, and Frank Langella. Extra material on the DVD release includes Richard Matheson: In His Own Words – An Intimate Interview with a Sci-Fi Legend featurette. The Blu-ray release will include that, along with a commentary by director Richard Kelly, featurettes (“The Box: Grounded in Reality”, “Visual Effects Revealed”), a Music Video Prequels feature, a digital copy, and a copy of the standard DVD.Check out a review below. A Massive Horror In Your House Explosion, Loads of Horror DVD/Blu-rays in Stores Today!

TEX SAYS: Well gore crew…after a month and a half of slim pickings it appears that everyone decided February 23rd was the day they were gonna dump all their crap onto DVD. Maybe they were all celebrating Spay Day USA (look it up) or National “Curling is Cool Day” (Seriously…it’s February 23rd). Whatever the reason, it’s reason enough for you to take out a loan or start selling off your excess body parts so you can drop a C-note picking up all the spoils coming out this Tuesday. With Ichi the Killer, The Crazies, The Box (Hey…Mr. Disgusting liked it…I still haven’t seen it), the teen vampire-lite flick Cirque du Freak, the ditsy remake of Sorority Row and even Troma’s eggcellent Poultrygeist coming out on Blu-ray (surly a sign of the apocalypse) I don’t even know what to choose as my pick of the week! But…I’ll tell you what. In celebration of Iwo Jima Day (also February 23rd…can you believe the luck) we’ll keep the memory of World War II alive which my choice of the Nazi Zombie Comedy Dead Snow! Blu-ray and DVD Details for Richard Kelly’s ‘The Box’

Warner Home Video has announced DVD and Blu-ray/DVD Combo releases of The Box which stars Cameron Diaz, James Marsden, and Frank Langella. DVD Active reports that each will be available to own on February 23. The only extra material on the DVD release will be a Richard Matheson: In His Own Words – An Intimate Interview with a Sci-Fi Legend featurette. Best & Worst of 2009: The Year’s Worst One Sheets

Before any footage from a film is seen, typically a teaser or full one sheet is released by a studio. This is an incredibly important, even detrimental process as it is the first thing the consumers will see and identify with a movie. If the poster stinks, the consumer might write it off all together, while a good poster could lead to them checking out the official website, trailer and best case scenario, hanging it from their wall (the most personal relationship any of us have with a movie). Trailer: Do You Dare Push The Button in ‘The Box’?

Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko) is back without another bizarre spin on reality with The Box, which is based upon the short story “Button, Button” by Richard Matheson that was also a “Twilight Zone” episode. Today Warner Bros. Pictures released the first trailer for the film arriving in theaters October 30th. Fans of Donnie Darko and (the few fans of) Southland Tales have a little something to look forward to as writer-director Richard Kelly’s The Box is finally hitting theaters on October 30 from Warner Bros. Pictures. The film looks pretty interesting as it’s based on the short story “Button, Button” by Richard Matheson that follows Norma and Arthur Lewis are a suburban couple with a young child who receive an anonymous gift bearing fatal and irrevocable consequences. A simple wooden box, it promises to deliver its owner $1 million with the press of a button — with consequences. Richard Kelly’s ‘The Box’ Gets Halloween Release

Some good news comes in from Warner Bros. this evening as they’ve officially moved UP the release of Richard Kelly’s The Box from its November date to a solid October 30th, 2009 Halloween release. Why they’d take on Saw VI in its second week of release is beyond me, but it’s still nice to have something creepy arriving in theaters on our holiday. Date Changes: The Box, FD 4, Trailer Trash and Poughkeepsie Tapes

Get ready for a slew of new release dates that just went out this afternoon. First, New Line Cinema has moved Final Destination 4 3D back a week to an August 21, 2009 release. Good news for you Richard Kelly fans out there as Warner Bros. Pictures has moved The Box – an adaptation of the short story “Button, Button” – from a September 11, 2009 release all the way up to March, 20, 2009 (finally one in our favor!). On to the bad news as MGM has removed the Dowdle brothers’ The Poughkeepsie Tapes from their slate and will release on an undetermined 2009 date. UPDATE: The film is now slated for release on September 11, 2009… Warner Bros. has slated Richard Kelly’s The Box for release on March 20, 2009. Based on the short story by Richard Matheson, “The Box” stars Cameron Diaz as Norma Lewis and James Marsden as Arthur Lewis, a suburban couple with a young child who receive a simple wooden box as a gift, which bears fatal and irrevocable consequences. A mysterious stranger, played by Frank Langella, delivers the message that the box promises to bestow upon its owner $1 million with the press of a button. But, pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world…someone they don’t know. With just 24 hours to have the box in their possession, Norma and Arthur find themselves in the crosshairs of a startling moral dilemma and must face the true nature of their humanity. NASA Involved in Richard Kelly’s ‘The Box’?!

Woh woh woh… hold on a minute! We received some really interesting intel this afternoon regarding Richard Kelly’s (Donnie Darko) adaptation of The Box, which is now casting for a Boston and Virginia shoot this November. We learned that a heavy portion of the film integrates a story about a NASA “Viking Project”. The movie takes place in Virginia in 1971, so what could NASA have to do with this story? Seann William Scott Joining Cast of Kelly’s ‘The Box’?

In an exclusive interview with Reelz Channel, the Dukes of Hazzard andAmerican Pie, star Seann Willaim Scott, revealed yesterday that he’s currently in talks to join the cast of Richard Kelly’s The Box, though details have yet to be ironed out. Scott describes Kelly’s third film as “interesting and weird. It’s gonna be a movie that people either love or hate. And I kinda like those films.” He would join Cameron Diaz in the adaptation of a Richard Matheson story called Button Button. The story will figure a bickering couple that comes into possession of a box that gives money each time it’s button is pressed. The only catch is that a person dies every time they get more money.
