When Eli Roth’s pay-to-torture flick Hostel came out in 2005 I found it to be a perfectly paced, well acted, cliché defying thriller that provided a much needed breath of fresh air to the horror genre. Considering the film dominated at the box office, public opinion seemed to agree with my assessment. However, I was admittedly a bit worried when Hostel: Part Two flopped in theaters the second time around taking a substantially lower amount of revenue than its predecessor. After viewing the film I can rightfully say those worries have been quelled. What follows is a review for one of the most underrated films of 2007.

Hostel: Part Two is essentially a direct continuation of the first movie. You could splice the end of the first Hostel with the beginning of Part Two and the story would just keep running as though no break ever took place. Right from start the writing is top-notch returning us instantly to the world of fear and panic established from where the first Hostel left off. Roth takes us further into the torture profit organization than ever before showing us all the chess playing that went on behind closed doors last time. The familiar locations and people create a quaint tone, like a joke that’s between the antagonists and the audience but is kept from those being preyed upon. It’s as though we know what’s in store, and yet, just like before, all our best guesses couldn’t be more wrong.

Like before, the story follows a group of three young travelers seeking a good time. But unlike before the three adventurers are women instead of horny guys. This changes things up quite a bit. Whereas the opening act of the first film was filled with gratuitous amounts of nudity and profane language, this one is more, dare I say, “civilized”. The girls are talked into diverting their travel plans in favor of a new location, a hot springs site in Slovakia, which as we already know is just a front for the murder business. Though the setup is fairly similar to the first film the manner in which the girls are lured to their sinister fates is entirely different and far crueler if you ask me.

One of the most interesting aspects of Part Two is that it contains a plotline from the exact opposite side. We get to see the lives of two American businessmen who have purchased the rights to kill the aforementioned girls, and we get to watch as they become the newest members of the Elite Hunting organization. The rich man is eager to get in his room and start the bloodshed while the middle-class man is more timid and unsure of what he is doing. Eventually both stories merge into one and the buildup is phenomenally orchestrated.

Of course, this wouldn’t be a Hostel film, or even an Eli Roth film, without those nasty torture scenes, and trust me when I say that Part Two does not disappoint. Perhaps it’s because the victims are girls this time, or perhaps because Roth just decided to up the ante a huge degree, but the violence in this film (though sparse) is unreal. All the gruesome moments are filmed perfectly, mixing both in your face, cringe-worthy gore with that which is better left to the imagination. One scene was so particularly bloody that I sat in my seat squirming uncomfortably and I involuntarily bellowed out, “fucking sick man!”. Sick it may be but I loved every second of it because it was relentless rather than campy or exaggerated, and it did its job so well.

Visually and aurally Roth has a style all of his own. While I believe that this film is better seen than described I must commended the artistic prowess demonstrated during one scene where the two men change into their slaughter outfits and head down the elevator with nothing audible except a chilling piece of the score and the backdrop of a woman singing a haunting melody. Sheer brilliance.

The final act is every bit as good as the previous Hostel if not better. The story takes an unexpected twist (though I was able to predict it and was pleased to find out I was right) and should have most viewers shocked with their hearts racing. I’ll save you any spoilers but I must say the character dichotomy is the central winning element of the film and devotes to a certain unconventionalism that makes the Hostel films so original.

Overall there really weren’t enough things that I didn’t like to pay mention to. I feel Roth has truly outdone himself on all measures and it’s all the more disheartening to know that the movie was a cinematic bomb. I’m hoping against hope that it fares better on DVD because it’s urgent that distributors continue to release films like this instead of resorting to PG-13 borefests. Hostel: Part Two is a prime example of the proper evolution of horror films.

Hostel movies need to stop. It is getting old. If they make hostel three they are gonna have them kill little kids and after that little kitty cats and after that if the continue on making hostel movies they will resort to killing off Big soft teddy bears.

Well, I paid five quid for this film and it was money down the drain…

For the most part it was boring, there wasn’t near enough gore and the ending was predictable and stale.

Hostel – part III? Hell no!

If there was some make-believe planet where movies that try to somehow piece a very lacking story together compiled with male and female genitalia and over used stage blood together, this would be the ruler of that planet. It was mildly entertaining to watch a german shepard eat a guys dong, yes, but let’s face it a 2 minute scene was not worth sitting down for the other 93 minutes of crappy movie making. Now throw a few more dog eating dong scenes and we would have a better plot to go with. Save your brain power, electricity, and wear and tear on your dvd player and just watch that History Channel special you saw the commercial for instead. – MyOwnAutopsy

The plot is even less interesting than the first one. But in a way thats better, cos the first one was a glossy hollywood movie with stolen gore scenes from other movies unknown to the bigger audience. So for this fact I like the second better than the first part. But people that think Eli is in it for anything else but the money are those dumb mass that are stupid enough to fill his pockets with money, while the true artists from who he steals are left behind (like Miike Takashi). Thank god his next movie is PG13, he made his name with these so called “shocking” movies, he claimed some fame with stealing gore moments from movies like Mermaid in a manhole (the eye scene from hostel 1) and now he’s up for the big big money with lame ass pg13 “horror”….

I just watched Hostel II, It’s been a while since it’s release but I lost interest just by remembering how bad was the first one. Strangely, this one his basically the same story line but it’s really good! It surprised me a lot, the reason is simple, this movie explains everything of the first one and you are aware of who is who and what could happen if … you know what I mean. The relations between killer and victim is far more interesting than the boring ”I don’t know what’s happening” you see the killer’s reaction and there’s some well thought twists at the end. Finally, the second one could not have been that good if the first one wouldn’t have been a piece of S**T, it completes it perfectly and now please producers do NOT make a thrid one!

The original Hostel was insanely better, and here is why:

Hostel: Part II is boring. I simply do not understand why directors like Eli Roth honestly think they have to spend 2/3ds of the movie “characterizing” when their characters are just flat clichés that you’ll forget as soon as you leave the theater. I don’t remember their names. At points, they all looked alike to me and I forgot who was who–not that they were different from one another in the first place. The women are all Hollywood clichés: the slutty one (Whitney), the smart one (Beth), and the emotional one (Lorna). I had to look up their names just to type that. Why do we have to sit through a hour of boredom to characterizer a cliché that we know by heart? Really, guys, I know a 12-year-old kid who fell asleep watching this movie. Scary, intense, thrilling, gory? I think not.

Hostel: Part II is not gory. *Spoilers* The scene with Lorna getting her back cut open and throat slit is what Eli Roth considers the goriest part of the film–and he would be right. BUT, compared to movies like the Saw franchise, this scene would almost be like warm-up for the real nasty stuff. It’s tame. The castration scene in the end is almost laughable. The penis is a MAIN blood vessel. But for Eli Roth, and the rest of the toned-down PG-13 horror world, when it’s cut off there is only a cartoony squirt of blood and it never bleeds again. Not to mention the scene is so generic and stale considering it a “finale” just adds another layer to the stale movie. And these are the only two gore scenes in the movie–at all. *End spoilers* And Eli Roth calls other horror films toned down? I’ve seen plenty of PG-13 movies that disturbed me much more than this bore or uncreative, genetic, inexplicit gore.

Back to that 12-year-old kid I said fell asleep–his sister later told me that even HE thought the gore was pathetic.

Also, where is this “plot twist that is better than ANYTHING that comes out this year” that Roth promised? Is he talking about the predictable plot shift that happened in the end? If that’s what our society thinks is a plot twist, we all have downs syndrome.

But the main reason Hostel: Part II is worse than the first is because it lacks the intelligence the first film had. I fail to see this “story” that Hostel: Part II supposedly has, because it’s the same exact story as the first one minus the intelligence. The first Hostel was brilliant because it gave the boring scenes in the opening a true purpose, as well as the gore a social commentary that I haven’t heard hundreds of times. Hostel: Part II doesn’t have that. It has nothing to speak of in the way of an actual story, unlike the first. Listen carefully: DO NOT LISTEN TO THE REVEIWS STATING THAT THIS IS A MOVIE WITH A DEEPER STORY THAN THE ORGINAL HOSTEL–it’s not true.

In the end, Hostel: Part II has a much better visual style than the original, but not up to par as say Saw IV. The story is more serious, but also more stale and genetic. The gore is above the original movie, but not by much, and certainly not up to the bar set by the Saw franchise.

I wanted to love this movie, but without the intelligence of the first film, it’s just a generic mess.

Hostel 2 is by far a better movie.

The first was so bad Roth had to finish it in the second.

    *****Review May Contain Spoilers*****

“Eli Roth has learnt a lot of things from his mate Quentin Tarantino, but without a shadow of a doubt, how to talk was the one he learnt best. If you believed everything that came out of the Hostel: Part 2 director’s mouth, you’d be under the impression that this was a new lesson in extreme cinema, pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable on screen to new and previously unheard of levels. Gore-hounds though will most likely walk out the multiplexes with the same aftertaste that the first Hostel left; it’s violent sure, but it’s not the harshest, most disturbing film ever made by a long shot. In fact, the only reason you should approach with kid gloves is because this time, it is girls that suffer. Young, nice and pretty girls with much to offer the world and whether or not dismembering them is more shocking than torturing and killing a horny male jock is a matter for feminist academics to debate.

The story this time focuses on a trio of art students studying abroad who decide to do some travelling during their holidays. Convinced by a local of the attractions to be had in a Slovakian spa (uh-oh!), tough girl Whitney (Bijou Philips), rich, confident lesbian Beth (Lauren German) and nerdish, murderer-magnet Lorna (Heather Matarazzo) set off for a few relaxing days in the former Soviet block, only to find themselves being splattered all over the walls instead. It’s grim and it’s nihilistic, but not without a vein of dark humour running throughout (the hell-spawn local brats play football with a severed head), but unlike the first film’s bewildered hero Paxton (Jay Hernandez), it’s difficult to cheer the protagonists on. Thankfully, we’re spared the gratuitous, borderline-pornography of the last film, but the girls are so two-dimensional it’s hard to care when their holiday starts to go wrong, Lorna for instance being so sweet, naive and childish that she might as well be a parody.

That said though, if you’re after more of the same arcing blood sprays and annihilated bodies, Hostel 2 delivers. However, it neither matches nor surpasses the original. Claret still flies of course but in a bit more subdued way and surprisingly, the final act doesn’t even come close to matching the frantic, battle for survival that Paxton went through two years ago. Much of the violence takes place off camera, where the audience imagination is set to run wild to the screams of the mutilated but only one scene towards the end is liable to make you wince. Considering the shock-value of the original lay in tendon slicing, fingers being severed, a girl exploding as a train hit her and the eyeball scene, it seems like a step backwards as far as gore is concerned. Instead, Roth goes for a dark psychological approach but woefully mishandles it. The shocking about turns of the plot are more predictable than the director seems to think and what should have been a tense, nail-biting conflict of wits misfires, giving us nothing but loads of shouting and a dramatic, but unbelievable personality shift. Roth may know how to do gore, but characterisations? Forget about it.

As a result, Hostel Part 2 is evidence of how far you can go if your self-belief is spectacularly high, but that is all. All talk of this being a doom-laden, intestine shredding nerve-jangler can do nothing to disguise the fact that it apes the masters but doesn’t outdo them. Consider how good this would have been if Neil Marshal had directed it for example? Unfortunately, Roth and Tarantino were presumably too busy head-banging to men being torn apart by dogs, girls getting buzz-saws in the face and the gruesome ‘Bathory’ scene to notice. The Tarantino connection however is rather apt and had this not been a sequel, it could just as easily have gone under a different name and been attached to the Grindhouse project. Don’t be surprised if future installments wind up going straight to DVD.” –ExpendableMan, imdb.com

While this film still isn’t great, and while Eli Roth still hasn’t quite mastered the process of making a good film or indeed filmmaking as a whole, ‘Hostel Part II’ is a much more interesting, respectful film that instead of focusing on gratuitous gore and sex, takes a bit of time to develop the story and lets us get to know the characters before they get slaughtered.

Definately not as good as the first film, but still good film making. Roth was in an awkward position with this movie, since everyone allready knew the big plot twist, there was nothing left to shock the audience(other than bringing the blood, which he did)

Bottom line, Enjoyable flick, not as groundbreaking as the first entry.

In some ways matures from the original, although I liked the characters in hostel 1, more than i did in this one, first off I dont understand the purpose of jay hernandez and especially the girlfriend absolutly doing nothing to go investigate the places he told her about anyways, going in i knew this film’s main characters this time around would be some chicks, now i thought for sure they would have had jay’s girlfriend in the movie be apart of the chicks like pretending to visit for fun, but really investigating who these people are and what they did to hernandez’s character, but that isnt the case and they both just disappear towards the opening/beginning.
the film of course is inevitable of punching a hard punch of blood and gore, I found some of the film interesting, but what i felt more interesting about this one is the more details you get into how exactly this business is ran. i am curious to see how and what a hostel III would contain of, this doesnt top the original in some areas, but in other areas i do feel it’s better than the original. if you liked the original, you will probably want to check this one out and see what you think.

I loved it! I was kind of worried at first cuz I heard earlier that it was horrible and the beginning was pretty lame, but the movie ended up being fantastic. I loved the duality between the killers and the victims and how it spent most of the movie just building up yet it wasn’t boring. It also really expanded the Hostel franchise, making it seem much bigger and significant than the first one did. Yes, it was gory, but not hard to watch. I know it sounds twisted but the torture scenes (namely the scythe and bathtub) were staged and shot beautifully and creatively. And it also had some pitch black humor like from Cabin Fever, so it wasn’t quite as depressing as the first.

Hostel was one of the most original and terrifying horror movies ever made. This one may not be quite as good, but as far as sequels go it’s among the best.

Why someone would want to watch people get tortured for 2 hours is beyond me. This movie is so close to a snuff film that i have no clue how it only got away with an R rating. I was so disgusted by the ending and especially the bathtub scene that i had to stop it half way and finish it the next week. I will admit that the idea is original and there are some decently intense scenes. I do not know what kind of people would actually want to torture the hell out of someone and get joy out of it. What kind of Black heartedness does it take? I will say that i do believe it was far more violent than its predacessor and that people who say otherwise should take another look. Sickening, disturbing, depressing, mildly entertaining

Eli Roth is a hack, pure and simple. The only thing he’s good at is shooting his big mouth off. If he wasn’t friends with QT he wouldn’t even be making movies. There is nothing exciting , scary or remotely entertaining about ‘torture porn’. His dialogue is a one step behind Rob Zombie as are his directing skills. You can load your films with as much blood and gore as you like but if the good characters and script aren’t there then whats the point. The scene with the girl hanging upside down in the chamber filled with candles reminded me of an old Hammer film, except those kinda movies were great. Another lacklustre effort from a very very over hyped director

Hostel Part 2 is exactly the movie that I wished part one would have been. Every aspect of it from the characters, who were more interesting, to the atmosphere, which was more tense, to the gore, which was more bloody, was better. I was utterly disappointed by Part 1 because all the victims were morons and I was glad to see them go. In Part 2 however, I actually cared about the fate of the ladies. I also loved how Roth put a focus on devoting time to the killers. I thought that they were completely overlooked in the first one and it was really interesting to see what made them tick and how they both changed over the course of the movie.

Finally, I don’t know if it was just me or not, but I felt that this entry had a better flow to it. The first movie played out like a bunch of scenes that Roth threw together because he thought they looked cool but, they didn’t really have any depth to them and a found it to be a tedious movie because of it. Part 2 however had believable emotional depth to it and a smooth flow from beginning to end, not to mention some nice gore to top it all off.

So, as you can see I feel that this is a far superior film and I think Roth can easily be proud of this entry into his series and I applaud him for it. Hopefully he will keep up the good work.

Better than the first. This one has been criticised for being released just for money, but i loved it. It was better than the first. This combines two storys together and puts them together towards the end, and it is just so fantastically directed. I love Eli Roth for starters. He directed one of my favourites Cabin Fever, and then Hostel and now this. The thought of the plt actually happening is so dramatically real, and thats the thing that makes it scary.
The plot is definately a risk taker, and im sure that Slovakia wouldn’t appreciate it but i loved it. The three girls who then are tortured by the men who are doing it for the first time. The characters all have a sotry and i loved listening and watching what they were doing.
The acting is so fun and believable to watch. The character of Whitney played by Bijou Phillips is so well acted and Bijou plays her so well. Shes the typical sex craved girl, up in your face. Lauren German is also great. Her character as Beth is so up and down and Lauren plays her so well. Lorna is also great and Axel too. The acting is a strong point of this film.
Overall Hostel 2 delivers more than the original and adds in the things you really wanted to see but didn’t in the first. My rating is 4/5

This movie was good only on the aspect that it was gorey and disturbing, maybe a little moreso than the original, but i didnt like the charachters or the script, I definately was dissapointed with this movie, The main bad guy with the glasses was such a retard, his moods and emotions jumping in completely different directions in the movie did not help it one bit. The original was waay better than this shit. Sic gore though.

Not since Freddy’s Revenge have I disliked a horror film’s first sequel. Thank you Eli Roth for bringing the hatred back.

This movie tries. It really does. But ultimately just feels like it’s trying to be crazier and more brutal than the first which, in a way, makes it tamer.

Not only that but why did Eli have to go on record saying the movie had the most shocking ending ever? What the fuck? You’re just asking to disappoint us, dude.

The movie has some good ideas (ie: the auctions the sickos have to determine who does the torturing) but ultimately just feels tired and uninspired.

Ah, yes, this movie. Well, I am bit disappointed on seeing a whole lot horrible reviews. I feel the exact opposite towards this movie. First off, I am so glad I saw this one in theaters, for I felt it was one of the best horror sequels I’d seen in a while. I even feel that this sequel was better than Hostel, not saying anything negative towards it’s predecessor though. I loved how the film picked up right where Hostel ended and concluded the first storyline in a just and appropriate manner. The film of course had to have some similarities to part 1, and I felt that the new storyline with the girls was written extremely well and brought on a hint of some originality to a good ol’ exploitation theme. Personally, what I think made me love this sequel more than the first Hostel was how it revealed much more darkness on the characters, particularly the ones who own, operate, and become customers to the mysterious organization. I loved just about everything about this film, the characters, writing, music, humor, and fierceness. The ending had me cheering.

IMO, every bit as good as the first… Allows the viewer to see the story from the evil side and takes you into the world of horror… Eli keeps up with the gore and tenseness with another extremely violent and duranged vision that few others can match… This movie isn’t for everyone, but anyone that enjoyed the first will definitely enjoy the sequel….

A wonderful sequel to the disturbing Hostel. This gory, action packed tortue movie does everything it possibly can to make the audience look away, possibly the goriest torture movie ever. I may be taking that over the top a bit, but it is a disturbing movie. I liked it, though. It’s one of those movie you’d watch once, and then never again, so it’s worth a rent at least. But, as I said before, the gore and action are top notch, with great acting and a great script. The plot isn’t that good, but that’s made up by the midless blood and guts. A great, solid horror.

To me this was a good sequel. There were things that I REALLY liked about it but yet there were things that I felt were just too similar to the first one and actually kind of hurt the flim. One thing I really enjoyed was the duo of todd and Stuart. I loved how both characters grew during the film and where they both ended up. I won’t spoil it but it definitely works very well. I think the one thing hostel 2 had going for it was what happend to heather Matarazzo’s character. I think that was probably the strong point of the film as everything else just was either kind nasty and disturbing and even a little over the top. One other thing i thought was really great was how they showed the inner workings of how hostel worked. I actually think hostel’s philosophy from the first film of not showing everything made it more uneasy and actually the better overall film. This was still a good movie and the ending leaves the door open in a some what surprising way for hostel 3.

it was a bit predictable because since it’s Part II, you know what’s going to happen. Americans go to Slovakia on vacation only to be captured, tortured and killed by killer surgeons.

it was only okay, and i don’t like how Heather Matarazzo was in this movie. after being in movies like “Welcome to the Dollhouse” and “The Princess Diaries”, this would be the last movie you’d expect her to star in.

This movie was made with the intention of being different than the first one. Think about it, we get to see the syndicate from the inside unlike the first film. If you liked the first film. The first was an awesome idea, people who are so sick they pay massive amounts of money to torture/kill specific types of people. It should have been left at that. Also it should have been left as a mystery of how the organization works and who’s behind it.

    Hostel: Part 2
    11/28/2009

The second installment of Eli Roth’s Hostel is just as good as the first. Usually your basic horror sequels are far inferior to the original, but Hostel Part 2 keeps up the quality established by the first.

This time around we have three American college girls studying abroad in Italy. These girls are played by Lauren German (Beth); she is a smart level headed girl. Heather Matzarazzo is Lorna, the nerdy girl with issues. Although we see in a scene later that Heather is truly a fearless and committed actress up for anything. Finally there is Whitney, the party girl played by who else but Bijou Phillips; an actress who has made a career playing such parts.

The story opens right where the first movie leaves off. Paxton has escaped the torture chambers of Elite hunting and is now dealing with some serious insomnia and anxiety issues. Paxton doesn’t last too long as his girlfriend finds him in the kitchen minus a head. The cat licking his bloody stump was a nice touch. We first find the girls in an outdoor figure study drawing class. The female model (Axelle) takes an interest in Beth’s drawing and she gives it to her. On the train to Rome the girls meet up again with Axelle. Whitney tries to score some drugs off a few guys and it ends badly. Axelle tells them about the therapeutic spas of Bratislava and the girls are up for it. They arrive at the infamous hostel. One might say that this movie is just following to same story formula as the first one. It’s true except we also get another story line involving two older American guys Todd and Stuart. Todd wants to bring Stuart along with him to where else Bratislava for an experience they won’t soon forget. Todd “buys” the chance to kill Whitney and Beth (for Stuart) in a scene where the three girls are auctioned off by their passport photos supplied by the hostel. Stuart is a family man who is always having second thoughts about what they are getting into, while Todd is the super macho extreme freak. We also get to see a more in depth look at the inner workings of Elite Hunting. Every client must get a blood hound tattoo (the company logo). They are given a pager, exactly like the ones you get at a restaurant, and told to wait until their girl is ready.

The girls attend the local harvest festival where Lorna meets a prince charming with a pony tail. She is eventually lured away from the festivities for a moon lit boat ride despite Beth pleading for her not to leave. This of course seals Lorna’s fate. She is eventually strung up upside down in scene that is so brutal you can barely watch. A female client ends up bathing in her blood. Nudity and bloody violence in one scene is very conflicting. Stuart gets a little to close when scoping out Beth at the festival. They have an awkward meeting, which sets up a big scene at the end of the movie. Hostel 2 seems to have less gore than the first film but it is definitely a case of quality over quantity. Beth tries to keep the group together, but with Lorna now missing, it isn’t too long before Whiney, and her new boy toy Miraslav, disappear the next day at the spa. Now all alone at the spa Beth is pursued by a bunch of burly guys’ that don’t look to friendly. She runs into the woods and into the Bubble Gum Gang from the first movie. She is finally saved by Axelle and brought to a mansion. After getting cleaned up she is double crossed and kidnapped.

There is a long montage style scene of Todd and Stuart arriving at the torture facility. They change into butcher like gear, choose their weapons, and try on weird looking masks. Their victims are all kept like cattle, chained in bunches in an enclosed space `til needed. They are then dressed in clothes and made up to the specifications of the client. When the guys are finally alone with their prey, a big turning point occurs as Todd freaks out when the violence becomes too real. After refusing to finish the kill, he is dealt with severely and winds up as dog food. Stuart on the other hand finally snaps and becomes the real psychopath. He has Beth dressed up as his wife. After a struggle Beth gets the upper hand on poor ole Stuart. When the guards see this on the surveillance monitors they go in to break it up. We then see Beth holding a large pair of scissors over Stuarts “junk”. Since Beth is uber rich she able to make a deal with the owner of Elite. Stuart then crosses the line by calling Beth a “cunt”. Not a smart move Stu! She then cuts off his manhood and feeds it to the dogs. Ouch! To fulfill her deal she must get the tattoo and kill someone. With the help of the Bubble Gum gang she lures Axelle into the woods and decapitates her. The gang then play soccer with the severed head all set to joyful music. Roll credits. This is one of the most insanely weird endings I’ve seen in a while. Hostel 3 is currently in the works, but it is said to be a direct to DVD sequel.

It’s the next chapter of the torture tale from writer-director Eli Roth which came out 2007. This time three female American college students studying abroad are lured to a Slovakian hostel and spa, and discover the grim reality behind it. The story from part I continues without a break and makes the first HOSTEL better this way. This time we see behind the mask of the sick organisation and it’s clients. And this time you will see a `Final-girl’ who isn’t just surviving…..I’m not spoiling: But boys, cross your legs on this one!
What else can I say about this movie then just: FUCK YEAH, ELI YOU DID IT!!!! Thinking about the first `HOSTEL’, I have to say I was disappointed, all this discussions about the `most shocking film ever’ and then it was over when it was getting interesting! But Eli Roth wouldn’t be the bad ass he is, if he hadn’t put it to the next level – and to say it with the Bear Jew: “Eli fuckin’ Roth knocks it out of the park! All the Fans are on their feet for Eli! Fuckin’ horror movie genius!” He also has some of the best Horror movie icons to do their cameos.(if you know them, you know that I mean). And just for the record, anyone who says Eli Roth made a misogynistic movie can kiss my ass! You haven’t understood this movie, buddy! DIFFERENT THAN THE FIRST, BUT STILL GREAT! This movie is less darkly disturbed than the first one. I really enjoyed the ending of this sequel, because it added a little bit of comedy as well as morphing our victim into the aggressor, which is always fun.
I loved the story of the American men who wanted to join the Bloodhound gang. The twists in this movie were necessary to make it stand out as a sequel, and I believe it succeeded.
The murders in this sequel are still grizzly, but you’re almost rooting for them this time around because they’re happening to very annoying characters (the skanky slut and the ugly dog who won’t keep her mouth shut).
To sum it up, I thought this was a very creative remake…fun for the entire family!

Hostel Part II flips the genders and now we have three women, instead of men, going through Europe. They stay at the hostel from the first film and soon become victims of the rich man’s torture game.

I like Eli Roth, even if I’m that that big a fan of his movies. I didn’t really dig the first Hostel and this one doesn’t fare any better. The guy is trying his best to re-invent horror, yet he seems to be one of the followers. For me, each decade had some interesting horror films. The 80′s had cheesy horror movies and gave us some iconic horror characters. The 90′s re- invented the slasher genre with Scream and then we hit this decade and we have what people are calling torture porn. Saw, Hostel and countless other movies that throw victims into the clutches of a mad man who tortures them.

Hostel, for what it’s worth, was a little bit entertaining. The third act of the film added some suspense and thrills. Hostel II has none of this. It feels like build up to nothing. There was only one scene that was interesting, the blood bath sequence. Creepy, hot and horror quality. The rest of the film was disappointing. Roth should know that people are going to see this move for those torture scenes, which made the first film a success. This film has none of that.

The girls are great too look at, but their characters are irritating. This film tried to show a bit of the other side, the rich torture guys. We get two characters who pay to kill these girls and predictably, one goes soft and the other one looses it. Roth tries so hard to shove the fact that one guy is psyched to do this while the other is hesitant, it’s obvious that one of them would flake out. I even called which guy.

Hostel Part II lacks the good parts that made the first one watchable…and I didn’t even like the first one. I’m still waiting for Roth to deliver us something truly worthy of the horror genre. Cabin Fever and the Hostel films just fall short of that.

Hostel Part II is the sequel to Eli Roth’s 2005 film and I have to say this was terrible. Women instead of men. Would’ve been a bit better if Paxton had been there all the way through the movie. They are targeted by a murder-for-profit business. They are captured and then you know what happens next. This is similar to the first but the torture scenes are mediocre and not well thought out at all. I may give this film another chance soon. I need to think about it. Eli Roth’s first film is the best. If you liked the first Hostel give this one a shot but don’t expect it to be as good as the original.

“Hostel: Part II” is the answer to the question of what’s wrong with the horror genre as of late. In a nearly artless 95 minutes of feminine-exclusive exploitation; director Eli Roth does nothing more than demonstrate that he is skilled in the process of staging a kill scene. I’ve read up on Roth and I’m an admirer of both his persona as a human being (his activism with the PETA is nice) and as a filmmaker. I enjoyed “Cabin Fever” and to an extent, the first “Hostel”; but here, he’s only hurting himself. For 95 minutes, we get to watch as Roth indulges in the exploitation of violence against women; it wouldn’t be surprising if he enjoyed himself in the making of this sick, insultingly brainless genre offering.

Sometimes, the film isn’t shocking; but at the same time, there are moments that cross the line; and at that, I draw a considerably tame one. I can appreciate what people categorize as “extreme horror films”, but they’ve got to have some substance, and that’s something that “Hostel: Part II” lacks nigh completely. It’s the kind of genre bastardization that was most likely conceived from the requests and cries of horror fanatics everywhere; we want something fearless and bold. Roth intends to give us just that.

The only way to expand on the basic premise of “Hostel” – which concerned a murder-for-profit business exclusive to Slovakia – is to focus on an entirely different, new group of people. Instead of three men; there are three women, and then another – native to the region – who joins and leads them to the hostel from the first movie. By night; they tour the local festivities and try to have a good time, but it is that night on which the horror that lurks in the shadows of the area shall reveal itself.

Another twist to the story is a thoroughly satirical tone; but only when specific characters are around. In this case, there are two clients who come from America to do business with the underground Slovakian killers; their names are Stuart (Roger Bart) and Todd (Richard Burgi). Roth intends for their on-screen presence to be funny because they are inexperienced in the trade of murder; too bad I didn’t laugh. I’ve got a sick sense of humor; but I guess it’s not sick enough.

The characters are stupid. We don’t care about any one of them. There’s one girl in the group by the name of Lorna (“Welcome to the Dollhouse” starlet Heather Matarazzo) who provides the film with some much-needed comic relief that, for the most part, actually works; even if it never comes close to saving this sorry film’s skin. I might have cared about the movie had anyone else been this entertaining; but no, they’re absolutely paper-thin. To make matters worse, Roth provides yet another racist, unintelligent view on Slovakia, the people, and their culture. It’s as if he’s yet to even meet a member of the nation.

Alas, “Hostel: Part II” is not unwatchable because it is excessive and sadistic (and it is); but rather because it’s just so darn bad. Knowing the horror aspect of the story, we go in knowing just a tad too much; and any suspense deteriorates before it even makes an attempt to get going. On top of that, the lighting is pretty bad throughout; with only Roth’s stylistic cinematography and impressive gore effects lending a helping hand. I was able to take the film for the most part, although I was still a bit unwise to approach the film. I was warned of graphic castration (which was unexpectedly shown completely on-screen) and women taking a circular saw to the face; although I was unaware of how intensely these two things (and others) were going to be depicted. In terms of being sick, depraved, and irredeemable; this is certainly a big step up from the original film.

There was one scene that I really liked. One scene where Roth displayed some welcome hints of pure artistry in an otherwise wannabe-artsy piece of exploitative shit. The scene which I speak of is the one in which “Cannibal Holocaust” director Ruggero Deodato makes an appearance as a cannibal who presumably feeds off the scraps of the torture victims as well as fresh meet that he gets ahold of himself. Given the filmmaker’s background as well as his on-screen actions; there’s a certain artistry to the scene that I just wish the entire film had achieved. Sadly, this isn’t the case; and this horror sequel is left bleeding to death, with only the most faithful and easily pleased genre fans cleaning up the big old mess of liquid red.

This movie was definitely not as good as the first Hostel, but it was still really good.

The Ultimate Movie Review! – http://tss5078.blogspot.com – @tss5078 – Hostel: Part II leaves off at almost the exact point the first one ends and has an awesome opening scene. Last time it was the boys, this time the girls go on vacation. Once again I loved the gore and the scary story, however this ends quite differently from the first one, and too be honest I really didn’t like what they did. If this is indeed just a continuation of the story of the hostel, then they could have done a lot better job closing it out. The rushed, lazy ending really left me with a bad taste in mouth. For the most part thou, Hostel: Part II is every bit as scary and disgusting as the first. If you liked the first one, you’ll like this one too.
