‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark’ Gets Two Week Bump

Another release change as FilmDistrict – who just had major success with Insidious – has given Troy Nixey’s Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark remake an August 26, 2011 date, two weeks later than originally announced. The interesting aspect is that it will now open against Dimension Films’ Apollo 18. Who will move first? I got money on Apollo. Remember, the last time two studios films went head to head – The Final Destination and Halloween II – be all lost. READ MORE

Teaser Poster for Wes Craven’s ‘My Soul to Take’

BD reader ‘Joey M.’ sent us in your first look at the teaser poster for Universal Pictures’ My Soul to Take, their post-converted 3-D horror tale from horror legend Wes Craven. Starring Max Theirot, Denzel Whitaker, Shareeka Epps, and Emily Meade, Uni is pushing this up against Saw 3D on October 29, while also taking on Paranormal Activity 2 in its second week of release. Hasn’t anybody learned from the idiotic battle between H2 and The Final Destination? Whichever wins, we all lose. Every asshole will report horror as a box office flop — again. In the sleepy town of Riverton, legend tells of a serial killer who swore he would return to murder the seven children born the night he died. Now, 16 years later, people are disappearing again. Has the psychopath been reincarnated as one of the seven, or did he survive the night he was left for dead? (more…) READ MORE

OMFG #2: Lionsgate Throws Violent Blow at Paramount: ‘Saw’ vs ‘Paranormal Activity’… IT’S ON!

And you thought the Halloween II / The Final Destination battle was good…. the war between Paramount Pictures and Lionsgate has officially begun – and it’s positioning itself to be EPIC. As many of you know, Saw VI director Kevin Greutert was attached to get behind the camera for Paranormal Activity 2. Paramount furthered the attack by placing the sequel head-to-head with Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures’ Saw VII 3D on October 22. If last year was any indication, Paranormal definitely had the upper hand in the competition, a battle that hadn’t really begun until now. Lionsgate has thrown a VIOLENT blow back at Paramount by exercising an option that has forced Greutert to head back to Toronto for the seventh Saw film instead of showing off his talents in Paranormal 2. It wasn’t his decision as he’s now officially a casualty of war. David Hackl on the other hand, he’ll be moving over to an unnamed Lionsgate project (thank God). Want more? Read on. Talk, talk, talk, talk, TALK. OMFG. (more…) READ MORE

Best & Worst of 2009: The Year’s Worst One Sheets

Before any footage from a film is seen, typically a teaser or full one sheet is released by a studio. This is an incredibly important, even detrimental process as it is the first thing the consumers will see and identify with a movie. If the poster stinks, the consumer might write it off all together, while a good poster could lead to them checking out the official website, trailer and best case scenario, hanging it from their wall (the most personal relationship any of us have with a movie). To say the least, posters are damn important. As part of our year end coverage, we present to you the year’s worst theatrical posters. (more…) READ MORE
