Best & Worst ’10: BC’S BOTTOM 10 OF 2010

The worst list was much easier for me to make than my ‘best’ list – barely a week went by without me being massively disappointed with something. Overall, it seems the main problem is filmmakers being more in love with their technology than their stories. All of these movies (OK, SOME of them) are well made, but all the bells and whistles can’t make up for a shit script. There’s just way too much mediocrity out there as of late, and looking over this list and next year’s schedule, I fear a 90s style wasteland may be fast approaching. Try harder, studios and filmmakers. (more…) READ MORE

Police State Terror in Mark Wahlberg’s ‘The Raven’

I love a cool concept, especially something that’s quasi-unique. The Fighter (and The Happening, LOL) star Mark Wahlberg apparently agrees as he’ll be producing a feature-length version of Ricardo De Montreuil’s short film The Raven (watch it inside) for Universal Pictures. Justin Marks will write the script that will focus on a young man with powers being chased around downtown Los Angeles by robotic police drones, while a giant police ship coordinates the effort from the skies above. The concept has a little of They Live, Eagle Eye, I, Robot, and a whole lotta awesome. There’s nothing more terrifying than the idea of a police state. Universal’s Raven is not to be confused with FilmNation and Intrepid Pictures’ project with the same title that tells the tale of Edgar Allan Poe. (more…) READ MORE

Mark Wahlberg Jokes About Role in ‘The Happening’; REMIX!

Update: Added a sweet remix video inside. You have to love Mark Wahlberg, especially after his valiant effort in M. Night Shyamalan’s ridiculous environmental horror flick The Happening. Actors make mistakes, sh*t, most of ‘em do, but only a few actually own up to it. While talking to the Hollywood Reporter about the sensation that is The Fighter, Wahlberg joked about The Happening: “We had actually had the luxury of having lunch before to talk about another movie and it was a bad movie that I did. She dodged the bullet. And then I was still able to … I don’t want to tell you what movie … alright The Happening. F*ck it.” He jokingly added, “It is what it is. F*cking trees, man. The plants. F*ck it. You can’t blame me for not wanting to try to play a science teacher. At least I wasn’t playing a cop or a crook…” Amen. (more…) READ MORE

It’s a Double Murder! ‘Devil’ vs ‘Prince of Darkness’!

Tim has returned from another successful tour of the United States to join Danny! on the latest episode of Double Murder: Devil vs Prince of Darkness! As the first film in M Night Shyamalan’s “The Night Chronicles”, Devil shows you what happens when five strangers are trapped in an elevator with “The Devil”; stop being polite, and start getting real…dead. Can the detective and security guards watching on camera solve this supernatural mystery in time? Will Devil be as good as Unbreakable, or as bad as The Happening!? One of John Carpenter’s most overlooked films, Prince of Darkness combines theology with modern science to bring you a new twist on the God vs Satan concept. A group of graduate students and professors are tapped to unlock the mysteries that have been locked in a church basement for hundreds of years. As they get closer to discovering the truth, the evil escapes and immediately recruits to it’s army…that’s right…Alice Cooper. Tune in now (iTunes, inside, or on the Podcast page) to find out which one of these films is a hidden gem, and which one is to be avoided like the plague! And heed Danny!’s advice: Don’t be an asshole on Halloween!!! (more…) READ MORE

Year in Review: Mr. D’s Worst Horror Films of 2008!

What a year, what a year. While everyone else includes DVDs in their best and worst lists, I solely focus on films that hit theaters. While compiling my lists, I couldn’t believe how hard it was to pick ten films that I felt were worth even mentioning as “the best”. While I barely succeeded, the worst list was much easier, which was pretty disappointing from my standpoint. That means this was a lousy year for horror and that the majority of horror films released were bad. Looking forward to 2009, I can’t say I expect anything different next year, but one can only hope… beyond the break you can check out my list of the worst horror films of 2008. Don’t forget you can chime in with your own lists and thoughts below, or write your own reviews in our MoviePit. (more…) READ MORE
