“The series has lost it’s touch and horror charm. It has now become another useless horror franchise with repetitive sequels and completely unoriginal scripts.”

That is a direct quote from my “Saw V” Review. Maybe the creators read my stubby little review on 5 and realized I was on to something.

“Saw VI” is a complete 180 from 5. This movie has the raw emotion and passion that made the first one so enjoyable and kicked it up a notch. The acting this time around was much better (despite one or two minor characters who died anyway). The passion has returned and I felt like I was watching the first movie all over again! I was on the edge of my seat trying to analyze every frame and scene trying not to miss anything. The new scenes with Amanda were good, and Tobin Bell puts on another amazing performance as Jigsaw (Yes he is still dead, they were all flashbacks). The timeline has really come full circle in this installment.

It is bloody, it is gory, the traps are pretty serious in this one. The twist, while sort of evident about 2/3 into the movie is still a surprise come the end. I will spoil nothing which will force any of you skeptical ones out there to go see it for yourselves. This is by far my favorite in the series. The emotion is very strong in this movie and the characters (especially Jigsaw) sell it so well for once. I left the theater with nothing left to be desired but another Saw movie which they are making.

For the most part, every loose end is tied up, but there is one scene/item that, like the tape Jigsaw pours candle wax on at the end of part 3 (which we later find out he swallowed so Detective Hoffman could find it at the beginning of part 4), leaves an opening for more.

This movie was genius at its core like the first one was, and has really restored my faith in the series. I did not think it could be done but it has been done. “Saw VI” is a fucking keeper, and easily the strongest in the series since part 1.

    OVERALL Rating: 9/10

Yes it was that damn good!

After the garbage that was “Saw V”, this is like a masterpiece. I am still in shock that this movie was this enjoyable. But like all Saw movies, you see it once, and you don’t ever really need to see it again, but man that first time you watch it, if you are at all a pseudo fan of the series, I promise you, disappointment is something you will have none of.

I am going to say it up front. The Saw series is a guilty pleasure of mine. That being said the last couple has not really engaged me all that much. After this one though, consider me back in the fold. Longtime series editor turned first time director Kevin Greutert has recharged the series and injected something these films have lacked since the beginning: humor.
Saw VI starts with a bang. You know right off the bat that this isn’t the same dead serious almost somber type of Saw film you’re used to. I’m going to give Greutert and company the benefit of the doubt here and assume that this is by design. You know when Jigsaw is putting people in traps for smoking too much that your tongue should be firmly planted in cheek. This film is also much more open and colorful than previous films. After the claustrophobic Saw V that seemed to take place in only three different rooms this is a welcome change of pace. Also the traps here are much more inventive than V and maybe even IV (nothing will best III in my mind for sheer over the top-ness). The amount of twists and surprises is also plentiful and really do help bring the game full circle. This is definitely not the transition film that the last one was and it really left me to wonder where exactly they can go from here. The twists and turns of the plot are not something I want to give away as its part of the fun but suffice to say if you’ve stuck with the series up until now you won’t feel gipped as you walk out of the theater. The film follows Hoffman as he tries to stay one step ahead of the FBI while conducting a game involving John Kramer’s insurance broker William who is put through a series of tests involving his co-workers. The film moves at a breakneck pace cutting back and forth between the two main plot threads while also throwing in the now famous Saw flashbacks to fill in the gaps of all the past movies. I was never bored and special mention has to be given to Greutert for really keeping this thing from getting bogged down in the procedural aspects that really plagued the last few films. This is balls to the wall entertainment and it delivers while also winking and nodding along the way. Saw also gets extremely topical here for the first time and the main thrust and theme of this film will hit home to anyone who even has a passing knowledge of current affairs in this country. The only negatives I can really point out in the film is some of the suspect acting but again this might be done on purpose through the director’s eyes to inject some humor without resorting to having Jigsaw or Hoffman crack jokes Freddy Krueger style while they dispense moral justice. We haven’t gotten there yet, maybe Saw X. The other problem I had was that some of the back story really pushed the suspension of disbelief but I guess I shouldn’t nit-pick because that as been a problem as far back as Saw II and is needed to stretch out this far anyway. All in all this is easily the best Saw since the 2nd one and I am glad to see the series get back on track after the CSI elements of the last two films. This is Saw how I like it: down and dirty and over the top. Bring on Saw VII!

I honestly can say the Saw VI has restored my faith back into the series. I remember leaving the theater after Saw V in utter disappointment. I thought V was terrible, and the twist was…well, non existant. As far as VI goes, there are SEVERAL twists and turns, and its exciting to see the spirit of the first trilogy back in the last film of the second trilogy.

The acting was pretty good except for a few parts, (although I still maintain that Betsy Russell can’t act…sorry) and the main character was more fleshed out than most of the other players from past films…Which brings me to a new point..

I think this was the most mature saw film since the first one…This one, with the exception of opening with a gruesome trap, spent more time with the characters, and allowed them time to develop better than in the previous installments. I really hope they decide to have Kevin Gretuert (sP) do Saw VII, instead of Hackl (no offense). I don’t know if it was Hackl’s fault or the screenwriter’s for Saw V being such a weak entry, but all I know is Gretuert knows what he’s doing, and is a much more decisive and talented director. I hope he does more than Saw films in the future!

The only thing that disappointed me was no mentioning of the events (with the exception of Hoffman as the new Jigsaw, and Strahm’s death) from Saw V…For instance, what was the point of the people in the traps in V? I know that was more than likely intentional to keep the suspense going for future sequels, but DAMNIT, I want to know what happened to Julie Benz’s character, and why that game was so important.

    Overall, I give saw 9.5/10

I must say the beginning to Saw VI is better than all of Saw V. Now I know I gave Saw V a good rating just because I enjoyed it but Saw VI blew it out of the water along with 2,3, and 4. I don’t think Saw VII will blow SAW out of the water you can’t top that. Going to see Saw VI I had my doubts, wasn’t excited like past films but went to see it anyways. The intro as I stated before was INTENSE. Badass intro to a SAW film yet. The acting was much better than “V” and the traps were great. Costas Mandylor who plays “Hoffman” did a great job, but I think Betsy Russell who plays “Jill” took the cake in this one. Call me crazy but she’s a beautiful women. She has that “Jigsaw” sense to her (go figure) and did a damn well job in this movie. I couldn’t help but laugh when I realized Darius McCrary who played “Dave” was “Eddie Winslow” from Family Matters and just lost it in the theater. Nothing really seemed to bother me, it was good to see Shawnee Smith back. Loved the ending and think Saw VI was a damn well good movie. Goodnight.

I was a big fan of the first Saw film as it was groundbreaking for the year it came out. But ever since Saw IV, I hadn’t been happy in the direction the series was going. I felt that Saw V was a disappointment (feeling more like a Michael Bay piece of crap), but Saw VI was a let down with the terms of the whole flashback. The over story was very strong, and it breathed new life into a franchise that was heading for disaster. It had its moments where the audience reacted I kinda just wanted to laugh. But yes, agreeing with Mr. Drew this was refreshing and agreeing with Heather it made me a fan again. I just hope that they can stay innovative with fresh ideas should they actually continue after 7.

Talk about a show stopper. Finally a movie for the fans Saw 6 has gone back to its roots and given us twist after twist and gore after gore. Now I loved saw 1 and 2 and if I am really honest 2,3,4 and 5 but it is six that blew the rest out of the water. It was nice to see more of the back story behind Jigsaws reasons for what he was doing and of course great to see Amanda. New twists and new traps and even Dr Gordon gets a mention are we ever going to find out what happened to him. If you had made the decision not to see this because 5 left you feeling rather let down well I can assure you Saw 6 will more than make up for it and will leave you wanting more. Jigsaws back and back with a bang. Watch out fot the twist at the end pure genius. My faith has been restored. Roll on 7,8 and maybe even more

Though I feel SAW V is unfairly put upon, VI is definitely a major improvement, and easily the best of the “post-Jigsaw” SAW films. Great traps that really amp up the tension and deliver the gore, a topical (if, at times, a little preachy) plotline, some nice twists, and excellent pacing combine to make a fun, twisted little potboiler in the tradition of Parts II and III. It won’t win any new converts to the franchise, but SAW VI should win back those disappointed by the previous installment, and certainly won’t turn off anyone who’s been onboard to this point. Gorehounds rejoice! This SAW delivers blood and guts by the bucketload!

Saw 6 was awesome! The tagline is true. “It all comes full circle” Much improvement over Saw 5. I look at Saw 1-3 as a trilogy, and now Saw 4-6 as its own trilogy. Opening seen was pretty intense. Finally we get get some info about “the letter from Saw 3″ and “what’s in the box from Saw 5″ If you are a Saw fan, you should be pleased, but I’m not really sure where they could go next.

SAW VI is the best in the series. Not since 1&2 have I been so mesmerized and shocked throughout the whole movie. From the very first opening trap you cannot help but be sucked in and freaked out. This movie was not boring in the least bit. I was bloody, gory, and brutal as hell. Detective Hoffman(Costas Mandylor) is so perefectly evil that he is definitely worthy of being Jigsaw’s apprentice. Great acting, great story, a hell of a twist and some of the best traps ever made. I cannot wait for the next installment and you won’t want to either after you see the ending!

I caught an early matinee of Saw VI today and must say the critics are right with this one. While it was intriguing and had some clever traps, there was no point or pay-off. The film isn’t atrocious per say, but being an avid Saw fan, I have to say they should have quit after the first. While the film won’t be a waste of your money, there are other films out there that are much better (Where the wild things are, Zombieland)

Going into “Saw VI” the only thing i had in mind going into was “this has to be to better than V”, And just with the opening scene i was happy that the film already seemed to be going back to the older Saws, after the movie, i didnt go out thinkin “that was one of the best saws” BUT as a hardcore Saw fan, im very happy to say that this did something that saw V didnt do for me, nor did it for anyone lol, but during and coming out of VI i got that Happy/i-just-saw-one-good-film feeling, the reveales of events that were left unanswered in past films once again was also very enjoyable and i was just sooo happy to see shawnee again, im still hoping (though it prolly wont happen) that Leigh comes back to write an installemet, i just dont think the series is the same without Leigh & James, very solid entry in the series though

Wow! SOLID installment!! A SAW film has not had a post-title opening scene so SHOCKING, DISGUSTING, and RIVETING since Donnie Wahlberg shattered his food with a toilet lid in the pitch black bathroom. Opening this film on that shocking note, the rest of the film plays well, is not horrible mess of confusion, and actually provides some REALLY interesting backstories and key points to the franchise thus far. Loved the ending!!! Bring on VII!

Saw 6 delivers immediately. Saw 6 does what the last couldnt and its deliver. Saw 6 will immediately ingage you do to the fact that its based on real life situations and it basically has the characters react the same way you would if put in the situation.before seeing this though i reccomend seeing saw 3 and 4 do to most questions being answered. as for the questions asked well youll get 1 question that will definatly raise question about the return of a secret character and as for the ending. well lets say that its the better endings of the saw movies and it will definaly have you begging on your knees for more SaW

    Hello, Saw fans
I caught the 12:30 pm showing of Saw VI. I went in to this movie with low expectation considering that the trailer and that this movie was going to be made by the editor of the saw series being that he had no experience in making movies. Tobin Bell had said during his interview that this was going to be the most intense one out of the series and that it would explain Saw-Saw 5 and that it did but it also left out the story to Hoffman. The traps were average the best one was at the end I am most likely not going to see 7 and 8 due to the fact that the story line of jigsaw is over now. The movie had did what it promised which was finish of the story line that they did even though Jill testes Hoffman and he survives but the story line with Jigsaw is over so most likely the next 2 movies will be about the aftermath of everything even though I think Hoffman is going to become the new Jigsaw and make his own test I still don’t see them doing anymore flash backs in 7 or 8. Will over all I would give the movie and 8.5 out of ten.

Saw VI was just flat out phenomenal! I mean right at the opening scene you are immediately hooked into it and at the end, you really are just screaming for more! I almost cried when it ended because it was one of the best endings that I have seen since the legendary first Saw. This film also answers many questions from other films and references to nearly all of the others. As they said, this film offers much closure but also there is that one piece that leads to Saw VII. Bottom line: If you are a Saw fan and a follower of the series (or even not) please go see this movie. It is definintly worth your time and money to see the best installment in the most popular horror franchise on Earth!

I hope that fans will give this one more chance and I know they won’t be disappointed. BD readers PLEASE see this in theaters as soon as possible. This kicks the shit out of even the original. Just as many good twists and with better action but nothing that seems unnecessary or just flat out wrong. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE see this in theaters opening weekend. Preferably as soon as possible. Like first showing tomorrow. I might even go seee it again tomorrow myself. SAW will never die!!!!!!

Wow, such an improvement since the fifth film.

The acting was actually very decent, the story line was VERY good and it had a very good plot twist at the end, like a good Saw movie.

The flashbacks were great, I loved seeing Amanda and Jigsaw together again. The explanations were also very good, they answered questions left unanswered from 3 films ago and that was pretty sweet.

I still want to know what the hell happened to Dr. Gordon though….

Saw VI might be the best Saw film since the 1st. The traps are brutal. The Gore is everywhere. Tobin Bell is fucking awesome(per usual). The twists are surprising. & it no doubt has the best story of all the Saw films. I felt like for the 1st time in a long time in the Saw franchise, that there was genuine suspense, the direction & editing were fantastic & I also feel that this film, unlike the last 2, had a sense of scale…something about the world this time felt more realistic(maybe it was being able to see other buildings in the backround when they were in the offices/apparment) It didnt feel so “soundstagey”. I loved this fuckin flick….I HATED! HATED! the last one.

As you can tell by my online ID, I love the Saw Franchise. Although I must say that I wasn’t very thrilled with the ending. Everybody knew that Jill was going to test Hoffman. I did not feel that “shock and awe” like I did at the end of the first film. With that said I think that the rest of the movie was pretty good. It was worth going to the theater to watch. I can’t wait for the seventh installment.

David “HACK”l. i believe what happend was they saw how bad he did. kevin came in and said this is how you do it… so they are giving him a 2nd chance. too bad that kevin isnt directing again. he was amazing! and tanedras performance was great! her cgi on her arm was not great but besides that. i would like to see her in other films. i think she is a tarrific actress and has a great future ahead of her. i cant wait to see SAW VII but im a lil pestimistic about it. so i guess i will have to judge it after the credits roll. *fingers crossed its as good as VI*

I saw this today in a double bill with Paranormal Activity and let me tell you I’m glad I saw this movie first because it made up for the dissappointment I felt with PA. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Well, the first ten minutes actually made me want to cover my eyes! I have never had that reaction in a SAW movie. After that, I just couldn’t wait to see what this movie would bring. I loved how they included a lot of flashback and basically wraped up an questions left in the previous movies. Also, there was a lot of jigsaw in this movie which I really love. The movie had a different affect on me because the traps are apart of something that everyone has to deal with: health care. It was a great way to get you thinking about real life! The ending was great. It wasn’t as good as the 1st ending, but It was kinda cool seeing another trap in the previous movies being used again. I give this movie 8 out of 10 because this has been my favorite movie of all of the series because the flow is so clean and this movie really makes me think and feel about the people in the trap. So, good movie and I have seen a long time SAW fan and I am ready for whatever SAW has to offer. I am so ready for VII and VIII, but I think 9 would just be too much for me. Well, great job SAW VI and I am so proud of this series!

this wasnt too bad, i dont quite understand all the praise its getting though. to me, it felt just like another saw film. it was good, like the twist in the end, like how amanda and jigsaw were integrated into the plot. i knew the twist at the end this time which took away from it a bit for me. but it was gory as it should be, the acting was OK, and the traps were pretty good. i liked how they made the plot revolve around a current hot button issue in our world today, that was a change for the saw movies. overall another good entry into the series. it doesnt really stand out to me from the others but im interested to see where it goes from here so i guess it did its job.

Wow blew me away! I have never been a die hard fan of the Saw franchise mainly because I’m more of a suspense horror fan not torture porn but this one was amazing! After four and five got a little off track(O.K. A LOT!!!!) it seems this one is getting it back! I only like one three and this one so forgive me when I say this one blew them all away! Now I’m pumped for more! although if they would had killed the “person” in the last trap the whole series would have went out with a bang! But we will have to see what happens!!! Seriously though that was Jigsaw’s last test.Where can it go from here?

a HUGE improvement over the last 2 entries, especially saw 4. saw 4 was just the lowest of the series in my opinion, and bored me to tears. saw 5 was more entertaining, but just felt unnecessary, and as a matter of fact it isn’t even talked about much in this one. but saw 6 was entertaining, had a great twist again that’s been absent since the 3rd, the traps were more sadistic and fucked up, the acting was decent(i dunno what people were talking about when they said it was some of the worst of the series, i thought it was good) and overall i just liked it a lot. definitely a great entry, i actually look forward to saw 7

definetly an improvement on the last couple of saw movies, i thought the ‘games’ in this one were very well done and as always it had a great twist at the end. there were fewer flashbacks (i thought) and i think thats an improvement , making it alot easier to follow. anyway i cant wait til saw 7.

Hoffman was tested for sure in this one. I really liked it and I don’t know what happened, but suddenly Hoffman had BALLS in this one.

Saw VI was one I checked out Friday. Keep an eye out for Eddie Winslow from ‘Family Matters’ (can’t remember his name). This one was REALLY good. The characters are developed and you fear for them. As far as the running plot of Jigsaw & co, I honestly think it all gets wrapped up. There’s not really any dangling plot threads I can think of. The “health care” theme works great and totally fits with Jigsaw’s history (surely a man with cancer would go to his health insurance provider). The end is nuts. Personally, I thought the movie was going along well but the last 10-20 moments are full of badass moments that will have you cheering. I’m not sure how well it translates if you haven’t seen the others, but I think everything gets covered. Truth be told, I think this pretty much wraps everything up. I only had one question coming out of it, but in retrospect, I figured it out. 9/10 (WAY better than I imagined it’d be).

Jigsaw’s 6th puzzle piece was awesome and one of the best in the Saw franchise! It was a lot better than the previous film. There are a bunch of new and terrifying traps and twists. They tie up a lot of loose ends like what was in Jill’s box, what Amanda’s letter from Hoffman was about, and much more. Tobin Bell does another amazing job as Jigsaw who’s legacy continues long after his death. Hoffman sets up a new game for William Easton, an executive at a health insurance company. He decides who to cover based strictly on probabilities of health or illness, which turned down Jigsaw when he had cancer. William must make impossible decisions such as who should live and die in the Carousel Trap, and who is more worthy of living. The game comes full circle! I highly recommend SAW VI!!!

Couldn’t they just told us that in the fuckin last 3… DOn’t get me wrong I love saw but it’s kind of getting a tad bit repetetive.

And wasn’t cary elwes character suppose to come in this or some shit… Thats what I read… I didn’t see him. It was still way better then five….

Despite it’s shitty opening take at the box office which SAW creators can only blame themselves for, due to the abomination of “Saw 5″, I really enjoyed this installment. I thought the plot, though it was predictable and sometimes seemed to unfold in a cliche and almost corny manner, was pretty good and in fact, struck a cord with me, as I have had plenty of experience dealing with medical/health insurance companies as I am a cancer survivor myself, and kind of liked Jigsaw’s horrifying traps/games/efforts to exact justice on their administrators/workers and teach them a lesson in humanity at the same time. As far as the gore, it was there in buckets, especially in the last kill scene which was downright disgustingly awesome. The acting was pretty crappy but we knew going into it, that it would be, what with the chick from that show who ‘won’ her role in SAW 6…it’s a damn good thing she wasnt given many lines because she can’t act for shit, besides acting terrified, which she did adequately in the opening scene, which, along with a couple other traps, provided that wincing, ‘damn im glad im not caught in that shit’ feeling that we all expect from a SAW film, as they more derive the freak-out/creep factor from gore and this wincing feeling rather than making you jump or being actually scary. This one delivers on that for sure. I must admit i had my doubts and raged against the ‘SAW’ franchise as I really thought part 2 and 5 were soooo soo sooo bad. “Saw 6″ redeemed it in my eyes and shows if you have good cinematography, delivery and the proper amount of gore and that wince factor, you can still make a pretty decent and thoroughly entertaining movie from a pretty simple story, and manage to churn out one more sequel in what i thought was a dead saga. “Saw 6″ even manages to make a little relevant political commentary along the way. 7 out of 10 stars/skulls.

oh and special side note to this; I downloaded this film and intend to later see it in the theatre, as it was pretty good. I’m adding it in further rebuttal to the article Mr.Disgusting wrote (about how you miss the experience of a certain ‘paranormal’ film by downloading it and watching it at home). I would like to re-illustrate that this notion is bullshit and if it is a gripping, decent movie, it can be enjoyed at home as well as on the big screen. This movie was good as a download and i’m sure it will be as good or even better on the big screen. ‘Paranormal Activity’ licked balls when i streamed it, and it would lick balls in the theatre too, if i were to decide to go waste my time and money on it, which i am not.

There are those that love the Saw franchise, and those that loath it. Some will be in line for the midnight showing of the latest film, while others blame it for singlehandedly starting off the “gorno” sub-genre and defacing the horror genre. Still there are others like myself that watch each film each year simply out of curiosity. What character have they resurrected this time? What crazy traps do they have this year? How do they plan on confusing us even more? After the third installment I’ve been largely indifferent on the franchise. I don’t explicitly hate it, but the bloated plot lines and increasingly dull traps have shortened my level of patience for this once proud series (by which I mean the first two films).

Still, Lionsgate pumps a new film out each year the weekend before Halloween like clockwork, and people still flock to the cinema opening weekend to check them out. After the abysmal 5th installment you’d think you’d be hard pressed to find anything likeable about another sequel, and you’d be right. The problem with this is that I didn’t really find much to hate either. The film certainly won’t earn any new converts, but the fans of previous films will undoubtedly like it more than the last film, and will probably find something to like about it.

Don’t get me wrong here, Saw VI has a lot of flaws, most of which stem from its convoluted and now absurd plot line. Now that Agent Strahm is dead Agent Hoffman is now Jigsaw’s last living apprentice. The film revolves around Hoffman covering his tracks, blaming his crimes on the dead Strahm and making sure the “last” pieces of Jigsaw’s game fall into place. All the while the insurance mogul who denied Jigsaw coverage is put through a series of grueling tests for his “crimes” against the sick people he has denied coverage to. Poor use of political commentary aside, series veterans will know exactly what to expect here. William the insurance agent is faced with decisions that will leave one or more people dead but will save the life(s) of others in the process.

The strangest part of the film is that despite the constant jump between storylines, nothing really ever gets answered. Yes, the contents of the box revealed in Saw V are revealed, but we’re never told why they’re there and why they’re used on whom they’re used on. It’s a shame, because there’s little pay off. I expected something to be in the box worthy of a year’s wait, but ended up feeling ripped-off and confused.

Even if you go with the loony story line to see the traps, there’s a noticeable decrease in quality with each test. One of these is a maze where the subject must walk through white hot jets of steam to reach the end. The trap feels like it was ripped straight from a video game, and demonstrates that the filmmakers have been running out of ideas since Saw IV. Another trap has two subjects having to place a pound of flesh onto a scale to grant their freedom. This reminded me of a very similar scene in a far superior movie: 1995′s Seven. In that film, a lawyer is forced to give a pound of flesh as an act of contrition for their `crimes” against society. The only difference between the two is the subject’s job description. Even the carousel trap from the posters is disappointing, and being one of the last traps of the film makes it even worse.

Even with all the negative aspects of the film, and the sheer lack of positive ones, I still felt my eyes glued to the screen. I didn’t check my phone to see what time it was, and I never really found myself bored. At the very least, it didn’t overstay its welcome. Fans of the previous entries will probably like this, but newcomers will hate it and ultimately just become more confused as to why we watch these every year.

I’ve always been a fan of the Saw films but i personally believe the franchise peaked with Saw III and the lowpoint was Saw V, so going into Saw VI i had dangerously low expectations. How wrong i was !!, the film was fantastic. It seems like the writers and producers have picked apart everything that went wrong in Saw V and changed it for this film. The traps were utterly fantastic creative and original. The film also involved a lot of going back into Saw III, IV and V and learning more about what went on before and after the traps which i loved and was fantastic. The script just felt so good and took brilliant twists that reminded me of the original Saw. The ending however was not a twist as i read about, it felt more like a fantastic cliffhanger that had me for the first time ever in the franchise saying to myself at end of the film “wow i cant wait to see what happens next year”

This latest installment of a genius horror franchise is one of the best ones yet?! The first one of course started it all. Jigsaw and Detective Hoffman were on top of their game as usual. It was nice to see more of Jill, Jigsaw’s wife and Amanda his original protege.

The make-up and special effects were excellent and kudos to Kevin Greutert who gave us an enthralling look into why Mr. Kramer became a vigilante killer, who needed a little help from a psychopath and a drug addict. The cast was suburb and I loved to hate the lead pawn, who had the most loose as he went through Hoffman’s razor sharp, pain of a maze, where every decision he made was of vital importance to all the players of the game.

This installment brought the whole story full circle and even brought in the “big” business of health insurance companies and how their formulas can either be a blessing or a death sentence.

This actually wasn’t half bad. Am getting pretty frustrated with the twisting of backstories (seriously, how many games could Jigsaw have going on all at once), but the subject matter is highly political and one that does ask the questions about medical health insurance. Acting is suitably below par, which is a shame because it could have made it a truly heartwrenching experience. Still great traps and a good story with a better twist than number 5, but still not up there with the rest. Check it out.

I’m not sure the Saw circle is coming full circle but although it lacks the style of some of it’s counterparts this entry feels more polished and features a lot more believable creativity than the last few. Actually amping up the carnage and smartly the suspense quotient this entry proves far more successful than any since the second. It would be tedious and a little insulting to go over the film’s plot logistics. But it’s inclusion of the healthcare system is both clever and satisfying. The macarbe death sequences are squirm worthy as people cut off appendages, are burnt by acid and are wheeled around on a cleverly rigged meeri go round of death. the film’s set design is a bit more impressive this time around than in all of the entries. this however brings up the question how is their electricity in these places and are these death traps condemned. It’s all in good fun though. The performances are also more effective this time around. Costas Mandalor is better in this film than the joke he was in the last few as is Betsy Russell. And as for VH1 Scream Queen winner Tanedra Howard she’s not bad but don’t be expecting her to reap many benefits for this role if anything she should get her straight to DVD career off the ground. First Time Saw director Kevin Greutert and the Feast team have done the fans a solid. Sadly audiences don’t seem to be showing up for this installment. Maybe there just tired of the mediocre shit this series has to offer but for those with any interest it’s actually worth a watch. Disturbingly fun…

Brutal, sick and totally entertaining, those are the words that best describes this sixth installement of the Saw Franchise.

The history again takes the focal point of Jigsaw and his cruzade against the medical insurance corporations and its corruption in a vert emotional way, at the same time that new details of his life with Jill and Amanda surface.

The traps are incredibily full of gore and actually mean something to the subject being tested, and in the end, (most of them) learn the lesson.

The twists are totally sensible and let the watcher waiting for more and more.

    Way to go Kevin Greutert!

Yet another amazing entry in the Saw series, this one tells even more of John Kramers’ backstory and how the “Jigsaw” personna came to be. The traps are as sick and twisted as ever, and the story still doesn’t fail to deliver as you follow the main character from room to room while he learns his “lesson”, and learn more of the overall series storyline. Something new, though it may only be my twisted perception, is the huge set-up for Detective Hoffman to fully step up into the shoes as Jigsaw, and for Kramers’ wife to possibly be the next person to be tested (something I am now DIEING to see after the ending of this film). Hopefully that’s what they mean by coming full circle. One of the absolute must see movies of the year for horror fans as this series is not loosing any steam.

I kind of lost my interest in this franchise after number 3 in the series, but have still been following the series in the hope of getting at least a little entertainment.
There are a lot of problems with the sixth installment, first off, like all Saw movies except the first, you are almost required to have seen all the previous installments and remember lots of details to truly get the plot twists which this movie has plenty of. I also had an issue with some of the traps in this one. One seemed pretty easy to avoid another had me rolling my eyes in disbelief at how the victims reacted to the trap. I also have a gripe with jigsaws successor, Hoffman. I just can’t stand the guy and I think the actor portraying him is dull and the character he portrays isn’t even a shadow of the original jigsaw.
On the positive side the gore is pretty good. The political message was pretty funny and relevant and the movie sort of gave Hoffman more character and made him grow a little on me. I still think the first two movies are the best and I will most likely see the next installment.

It’s really a shame that this installment bombed at the box-office when it was indeed an extaordinary improvement over the 5th one. I guess the majority of people who showed up at part 5 and didn’t for this one was plainly because 5 was the absolute worst, resulting in their loss of faith in the series. Well, at least those people will discover on DVD what a big loss at the theaters they made with this one. The biggest mystery though is, not the mystery package, but in fact why the producers bothered bringing back 5′s director when he was indirectly responsible for the failure of not only part 6, but maybe even the box-office end for the whole franchise. All I can hope for is that everyone who missed this will show up at the theaters after watching it on DVD, and most importantly, a miracle occurs with part 7.
At least, this is the season to hope for miracles, right?

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!! I just finished watching the film and it is HANDS DOWN the BEST Saw film since the original and it was completely and entirely unpredictable. I figured the other sequels out for the most part, but every scene in this film took me by surprise time and time again. Hats off to the director and Costas Mandylor for a wonderful performance. This is a sequel that goes to 11.

“Saw VI” was an amazing step in the right direction after the hiccup of IV and V. (Although I will admit I enjoyed both of those entries, and dare I say, thought V was better than IV, because it actually made sense.)

But “Saw VI” blew the franchise sky-high in terms of quality. Kevin Greutert’s direction, just in terms of visuals, is the best of the series. Acting is a step-up from the past films. The script is amazing, and really ties together almost all of the “what were they thinking?” questions from the last two movies. Seeing this made it clear that Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan had a master scheme, and they followed through, paying off for the under-acheiving IV and V with this film, which is arguably the best entry since the original.

Well some say SAW has been reclaimed. I am sorry to say it was never lost. To me this movie is by far the weakest, if you take the whole series into perspective. The pay off of the locked box, certain twists just don’t live up to the ingenuity of the whole series.

However it entertains and sizzles – Its a movie for Saw Fans to enjoy and love with their popcorn. Its not brilliant but completely engineered to make money. Personally to me SAW 4 and SAW 5 are the best of the whole series – When Jigsaw is done with his legacy – people will look at these two movies and say – YES – they were not the best in the whole series – they kinda looked safe and boring but if we see the whole story from start to end – these two explain the trappings of Jigsaw’s mind and moves his story. SAW is not about traps and puzzles and games and one character emerging a winner – its not a reality show – Its about Jigsaw – his life – his work – his tragedy – Somehow I felt we lost a lil bit in this movie – It moved well till SAW 5 – SAW 6 is just a commercial advertisement hooking fans back like a fancy poster – It won’t fade but it doesn’t deliver with its emotional quotient.
The good thing is that JIGSAW is still controlling everything … 3 cheers for that.

Apart from that as a standalone – SAW 6 is awesome – Cinematography, traps, acting – I felt it was quite good.

Just a word of caution – this is for producers and writers – Don’t dilute the vision of JIGSAW – hE IS gOD TO SOME US.

This is the “Saw VI” review from my blog “KirkAnthony’s Top Ten Films of 2009″. It made number eight:

Ohh boy was “Saw V” a stinker. Definitely the worst in the series, and probably the worst film of 2008, the writers definitely had a difficult task on their hands. As a respected fan of this series, I was most certainly looking forward to what the ‘Saw’ crew had to throw at me after their garbage “Saw V”.
Lucky me (or us, I should say), they released what I consider the second best in the entire series (“Saw III” being the best).

It wasn’t too long (“Saw II”), wasn’t boring (“Saw IV” and V), and it stayed relatively logical throughout most of the film (a problem I had with the original). The beginning was pretty lame, I must admit (they’ve gotten worse as the series has progressed). But from then on, I really got into it. John’s insurance issues, the lessons the man learned, the twists, the traps, the betrayals, everything was very intruiging and kept me going for the entire movie.

I do have to say one thing about the end. I was really conflicted with who lived and who died. I know with these movies, the people who deserve to live always die and the bad guys make it, but I think it was a bit much to 1.) Kill off a man who’d barely been introduced in the previous movie and 2.) Kill off a girl that had been through enough pain as it is (“Saw IV”).

My definite favorite factor of this movie was Betsy Russell. She delivered a fantastic performance as Jill and did indeed surprise me when she turned out to be the new new new Jigsaw.

So yeah, for a ‘Saw’ movie, for a horror movie, for a SPLATTER movie, “Saw VI” was a roarin’ trip for me, and rightfully earned the 8th spot.

The opening scenes never cease to amaze, but what really got me was the great story of this one. The politcal views, the realistic touch of things. I thought this one was the best one of the series, of course someone will always say the originals are best, but i think this one was put together better.

Certainly not the worst the franchise has seen but still not as good as part 3 but it did come close especially more than the last two. The acting wasn’t as by the numbers this time and I was pretty impressed with newcomer from vh1′s scream queens Tanedra Howard’s small but serviceable first performance as Simone, not half bad. I have to say this might be the bloodiest one yet in the series and they’re getting better with the story adding a few twist here and there but it’s still annoying going back and forth between scenes because it just makes it confusing but they’re getting better, slowly in a way. I still think this is an overrated franchise and pointless on making more and it’s just violence in the sake of violence and it’s just not scary, suspenseful or rewarding and it’s very tiresome now but it’ll be interesting what they will do come this october when it’ll be in 3D but probably just a rehash with the story going nowhere. Overall it’s an improvement over the last two but not a huge one and it’ll definitely satisfy gorehounds but anyone else might find this to be too gruesome and pointless to get into but I say add it to your queue if you are fans of the long lived franchise, to me though it’s way past its due and I think they should wrap things up with part 7 this year and why not go out with a bang in the glorious 3D. Watch it or not it really doesn’t matter if you lost your interest in this series with the last two.

This is way better then the shit that is Saw 5. This one follows it and has one of the best opening traps in history of Saw. One of the problems with this movie is the plot. It seems that good old Jigsaw don’t like insurance companys. It seems that Jigsaw does some of it out of predjiduce.

There are some good people that die for no apparent reason then to move the main guy further along. (Spoiler) The very beggining trap for the main guy is simple. If he takes a few deep breaths his chest gets crushed. The guy accross from him is the janitor and didn’t do anything wrong except smoked. Uh oh smoker alert better crush his chest! (Spoiler Over)

There are some good things about it that go deep into John’s (Jigsaw’s) personal life. Many things are answered like that damned letter from the third movie and the contents of the box. All in all this is Saw’s redemption but Saw 1 and 2 will always be the best of the franchise.

Also, I’m so ready for that Hoffman faget to die, the end was complete bullshit, he should have died, but no they kept him alive for a part 7, what a surprise. They should have stopped at part 3, but the monster that is Hollywood would never let that happen.

  119. Avatar of drewbster
Posted By drewbster on March 9, 2010 @ 7:55 pm

I am SO mixed about this one. It’s definitely the most brutal so far.

I thought the original was innovative and left me wanting more. Parts two and three established a solid story, while four and five provided some explanations but convoluted the story. I think I was expecting this to be the last one that would tie everything together and reveal John’s ingenious master plan, but that didn’t happen. I mean yeah, parts 7 and 8 are in the works, so this can’t be the last one, but by the end, the story still felt unfinished.

For me, I think the brutality comes from two things: Hoffman, and the first time so many expendable non-players were used. My conflict comes from Hoffman, the confusing timeline, and the timing of the subject matter.

I’ll be glad when Hoffman’s gone for good, and I hope his exit is short but painful. However, I can also appreciate the difference between him and John — you can always spot a true Jigsaw trap, while Hoffman’s traps are designed to punish more than teach. And I’m glad John calls him out on his brutality.

But then I get confused — as someone else mentioned, how many traps have been going at the same time? There are so many layers to this story, and parts four and five kinda garbled those layers, leaving part six to sort them out again. Unfortunately, the layers still seemed matted together, rather than cleverly woven.

This movie also has at least two firsts for the series. One as I’d previously noted was the amount of people used just as game pieces. There have been a lot of players in the past, and a few game pieces, but in John’s traps, everyone had a chance to survive, even if they weren’t playing. Not this time — this time, someone MUST die.

The other was how it bordered on preachy. Well, at least for me, because I’m just tired of hearing about opinions on healthcare. The other films had messages too, but I didn’t feel like they were shoved in my face. And I think the removal of survivability ties into this point — John’s been hard on people in the past, but even Cecil had a chance. Not the insurance workers. It could simply be Hoffman messing with John’s traps again, but still, the traps have gone from “what will they do to live?” to “how will they die?”

So overall…gosh, I liked it, I’ll be watching it again, and if you haven’t seen it yet you should know it’s not the final installment. However, something about it was unsettling, and the topic is not only current, but very prevalent. I just don’t agree that it’s the best since part three.

And I can’t remember if I’ve seen the credits of the previous sequels all the way through. Just another excuse to watch them again I guess.

When I asked a particularly wise friend what he thought of the Saw franchise just before we watched the sixth and most recent instalment, he told me that it was “a lot like marmite.” After one piece of brilliance, two pretty good films, one above average film and one downright awful film, you either love Saw, or you hate it. Your opinion of the franchise thus far will no doubt affect your overall opinion of Saw VI, so this review should be taken with a pinch of salt to all non-Saw fans as I am about to rate the film fairly highly based not just on its cinematic merits, but also on how it slots into the pieces of the jig-Saw (get it?) puzzle.

The notorious Jigsaw killer’s (Bell) work is continued to be carried out beyond the grave by Hoffman (Mandylor), creating the newest `game’ designed for an insurance company’s employees to suffer after they have denied thousands of people coverage, resulting in their deaths. As per the norm, there’s a lot of blood, a lot of gore and a lot of screaming as the various victims are forced to choose between life and death at the hands of a multitude of sadistic, yet undeniably clever contraptions. Saw VI looks pretty much exactly like at least the previous two films in the series on paper, just written in a different font so to speak. However, the outcome is actually surprisingly very different – director Kevin Greutert has managed to add a very dark, brooding atmosphere with a mixture of real-time action, flashbacks for Hoffman, and hallucinations for Jill (John Kramer’s wife); that seamlessly answer a lot of questions on fans of the series’ minds, and also unveiling some satisfying twists along the way.

The game itself is one of the series’ best, a success brought about mostly by a fantastic performance from Peter Outerbridge, who plays the centre of Jigsaw’s latest nightmare, head of Umbrella Company insurance William Easton. Needless to say, the traps are brutal and deviously satisfying to watch, showing no sign of the writers’ well of brutality going dry any time soon. I don’t want to give away too much of the plot at the risk of spoiling the film, but I will say that the carousel trap (one that you have probably already seen, given that it’s on the poster and the trailer) is absolutely fantastic, and makes up some of the movie’s best scenes as in unfolds in a gripping and shockingly entertaining fashion.

Regrettably, the film is not without its flaws. It constantly relies too much on blood and guts for the shock-factor, failing to remember that if it’s audience have seen even half of it’s predecessors, then they will be almost completely desensitized to gushing amounts of the red stuff. To combat this, Saw VI does step it up a notch in terms of what the audience sees, and also the brutality of the traps, however this simply pushes it ever nearer to alienating the audience completely. Having said that, all in all I was just relieved it wasn’t anywhere near as shocking (in the `really awfully bad’ sense of the word) as Saw V was a year earlier.

Overall, Saw VI is a near-triumphant return to form for the series, with an extremely satisfying ending/twist that definitely ranks up at the top with the ending of the first Saw film. However, non-fans of the Saw series will not be converted by this sixth instalment, and some people may find the copious amounts of bleeding a distraction from the entertainment rather than an addition to it. A friend once said to me that the Saw franchise was not unlike Marmite, and to be honest I think he was right… love it or hate it, the choice is yours.

I definitely think the story flowed better and some of the choices were definitely difficult for jigsaws player to make. The twist as there usually always will be one was a good one much better than part 5 which was obvious. There were definitely parts that had me on the edge of my seat particularly when hoffman gets questioned towards the end and that whole scene was just insane. I absolutely LOVED the ending and truely was a gret final shot to end the movie on. Brent (Devon Bostick), the boy who killed off William Easton (Peter Outerbridge), was just terrible. He was just terrible; it was instantly clear that he was acting. Most of the actors in this film deliver a great performance, but he kind of slowed this film down.

Other than Brent, I thought this film was very true to the SAW series, but I hope the acting will be a little better in SAW 3D.

“Saw VI” is actually pretty good at what it does. What surprises me about this installment is that it’s the same torture porn crap that I’ve seen and hated out of the previous installments, but yet there is good filmmaking and directing to accompany the genuine sense of repetition. No, I don’t like “Saw VI” as much as “Saw”. But as one of the sequels in a horrible franchise, it ain’t half bad.

To say the least, I respect “Saw VI”. I don’t like it, per se, but I was entertained and pretty pleased by what it brought to the table. For once, the traps are actually entertaining to me personally, and the story isn’t so terribly convoluted that I can’t stand it. All I can say is: good job, guys. Much better than “Saw V”. No. He smokes too much. Questionable moustache dyed his hair. Perez is back, and OK. Mandylor and Jigsaw’s wife are competeing for the title of Saw. More of the same, evil people being punished. Smokers are evil and need a life lesson. Diagnosing a man’s high blood pressure. Finally all 3 Saws in 1 scene! This movie gives us no credit for understanding what the key he gave her is. Jigsaw does not understand the American medical system, and the influence of Insurance Companies. These movies continuously tell AND show. You don’t need both. The best Saw film along with the original Saw, Saw III and Saw 3D. Saw VI is finally back to it’s serious, gory and suspenceful roots. While Saw V wasn’t bad at all and it was better than Saw II and IV this movie changed the franchise. The great things about Saw VI is that the film has a really good plot and it is well paced and intriguing as well. Plus since the film has a good plot the movie also has the suspense and tension finally back in Saw VI only that Saw VI has more suspense and tension than the first five Saw films and everything in Saw VI has been improved from start to finish. Since the movie has the right formula from start to finish the traps in Saw VI are intense and creative as well. I personally like the breathing trap in Saw VI because that trap is really intense and creative as well and it was really well made and that trap instantly made me gasp and cringe because in that trap you don’t know what’s happening and you don’t know who will die from the two characters in the trap either William or Hank will die in the trap that’s what’s great about the breathing trap in Saw VI and I personally liked it. Although my personal favorite trap in the film is the Steam Room trap because that trap is really intense and it is the nastiest trap in Saw VI plus that trap is beautiful and stunning as well and I said that because in that trap there are lots of really good shot for shot and angle by angle camera sequences when Debbie moves through the trap and it was really nice and it was beautiful and stunning as well and Peter Outerbridge’s performance in that scene was great the way he screamed in pain when he helped Debbie move through the trap by pulling a lever that will instantly stop the steam so that Debbie can move through and when he gets burned badly in that trap and he screams in pain was really good and he knows how to act in that scene so far and I also said that it is the nastiest trap because the way Debbie dies in the film is really graphic, gory and disgusting as well and The Steam Room trap is one of the most intense traps since the Garage trap in Saw 3D. I also enjoyed the Carousel trap because the Carousel trap is one of the most creative traps since The Rack Trap in Saw III and I also like that trap because the suspense was in that scene when one of the workers of William Easton gets shot with the Shotgun was really intense and because I said that it’s because the loud shotgun blast really fits well in that trap and it will make you cringe from the first victim until the last victim and I personally like that trap so far. I also enjoyed the last trap where William gets killed by getting hit with a wall of needles on his back after Brent switched the lever into Die mode and I would say that the last trap is one of the goriest and the most graphic traps since the Pig Vat trap in Saw III and I said that because the way William dies in that trap is nasty and graphic as well and you see all of his intestines and other body parts coming out after the Hydrofluoric Acid pumped in his body. What I did like about Saw VI is that it’s not only the suspense and violence has been improved but the movie also has a dark atmosphere that the previous Saw films didn’t have and I personally like the use of the atmosphere because the fist five Saw films didn’t have any dark atmosphere scenes at all and I really enjoyed the use of the dark atmosphere in Saw VI so far and it is also the reason on why I chose Saw VI as the best in the series as well. Director Kevin Greutert did a good job with his directing so far with Saw VI and Saw 3D since he was an editor for the first five Saw movies he even did a good job with bringing the Saw franchise back to it’s serious and gory roots he really did a good job with his directing on Saw VI and Saw 3D so far and I would also like to thank writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan for bringing the Saw franchise back to it’s serious and gory roots so far. Overall Saw VI gets a 10/10. So in the end Saw fans will walk out of the theater and raise their hands in the air and they finally claimed that they finally have their beloved franchise and they are all ready to watch Saw 3D.

Once again, this movie is also another good Saw sequel. However, this sequel was definitely not the best; it is probably my least favourite Saw film.

The Ultimate Movie Review! – http://tss5078.blogspot.com – @tss5078 – People bash the series as it continues to go on, they judge it based on its pieces, without seeing the whole thing. If one piece (movie) isnt what they wanted or expected, they give up on it, and they have no idea what they are missing!
