Quick Bites: Ti West, Two Others Go Sci-Fi; Still No ‘Pride & Prejudice & Zombies’ Director

In a hilarious bit of non-news, THR explains that Lionsgate still has no director for their adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Why not report on when they actually have one? The site reports that Lionsgate is considering Craig Gillespie, David Katzenberg, and writer Seth Grahame-Smith to direct the bestselling novel. Grahame-Smith and Katzenberg — who are producing partners — would direct as a team. If they were to sign a deal, it would mark the feature directorial debut for both. READ MORE

A few weeks back we announced exclusively that A Horrible Way to Die writer Simon Barrett (Red Sands, Dead Birds) and director Adam Wingard (Pop Skull) are reteaming to take on the slasher genre with You’re Next! This morning we learned that director Ti West (The Roost, The Innkeepers, The House of the Devil) and James Ransome (“The Wire”) are the first to sign on to star. READ MORE

MPI Media/Dark Sky Films Finance ‘Frankenstein’s Army’

After the debacle that was Worst Case Scenario, we were immediately skeptical when a promo trailer was released for Richard Raaphorst’s Frankenstein’s Army. Thankfully, this sucker is now officially financed and going behind cameras. Thumbs up! READ MORE

SXSW ’11: Ti West’s ‘Innkeepers’ Accepted

Just yesterday French director Xavier Gens leaked info that The Divide will be playing in this March’s SXSW Film Festival. Joining the rounds is Ti West’s latest genre effort, The Innkeepers, which comes courtesy of Dark Sky Films. After over one hundred years of service, The Yankee Pedlar Inn is shutting its doors for good. The last remaining employees –Claire (Sara Paxton) and Luke (Pat Healy)—are determined to uncover proof of what many believe to be one of New England’s most haunted hotels. As the Inn’s final days draw near, odd guests check in as the pair of minimum wage “ghost hunters” begin to experience strange and alarming events that may ultimately cause them to be mere footnotes in the hotel’s long unexplained history. West directed The Roost, Cabin Fever 2 and The House of the Devil. (more…) READ MORE

Best & Worst ’10: HORROR GUY KEENAN’S BOTTOM 5 OF 2010

It is SO much easier to write bad things for films than good things, that’s for damn sure. These films below have stuck out in my head all year as the horror films I wish I had an rusty, jagged, needled filled scrub brush covered in acid to wash the horrid viewings away with. Check ‘em out! (more…) READ MORE

Best & Worst ’10: THEO’S TOP 10 OF 2010

While many would say that this year was ‘slow’ for the horror genre, I would have to firmly disagree. Last year when I was compiling my list of films for my ‘Best Of 2009′, I was having trouble even remembering half the movies I had seen that year. Of course, the top 5 were cemented, but by the time I got past the sixth film on that list things began to get a bit hazy. That was the direct opposite this year as I had to leave out several films that could have easily made the list last year. But alas, there are only 10 spots, and so for all of you gorehounds, big and small, young and old…I give you my look back at the years best films in the horror genre. Read on for the skinny! It’s Our Turn to Adapt to Latest ‘Monsters’ Poster

Looking very similar to what Magnet did with the poster for Ti West’s The House of the Devil, they’ve now unveiled a brand new one sheet for Gareth Edwards’ Monsters (review) that exclaims: “It’s our turn to adapt.” The $15k indie love-thriller (notice I said love; it’s basically a drama) arrives on VOD, iTunes, Playstations, and Xboxes on September 24, and theaters on October 29. It follows a reporter who escorts a terrified American tourist back home through a Mexico filled with scary space aliens (that you barely see). (more…) READ MORE

Kicking It Into High Gear: A Visit to the Set of ‘Hatchet II’

Back in January Bloody-Disgusting’s Chris Eggertsen had the chance to visit the set of Dark Sky Films’ upcoming Hatchet II, Adam Green’s sequel to the slasher film that became previous distributor Anchor Bay’s top-selling original title when it was released in 2007. While on set at Occidental Studios in L.A., Chris had the chance to speak with some of the film’s cast, including Danielle Harris, AJ Bowen, and Tom Holland, and got a behind-the-scenes look at the interior of Victor Crowley’s house. In addition, he narrowly escaped being pummeled by star Kane Hodder. Read on for his full set report. (more…) READ MORE
