Lindsay Lohan wakes up after being drugged and kidnapped. She’s naked and on a couch with her mother, who is also naked. The mother calls her husband (who is having an illicit incestuous affair with his own daughter, played by Lindsay) only to discover he’s been brutally murdered. Lindsay stares directly to the camera with all the conviction of an Oscar winner (or coke whore, same difference) and proceeds to have a staring competition with a nun’s habit hanging on the wall in front of her. As the camera furiously cuts back and forth between the two it keeps zooming in closer and closer as the revenge tinged soundtrack builds and builds until we are INSIDE LINDSAY LOHANS EYE BALL! This scene is hysterical on about 94 different levels, and it is but one in MACHETE, a wall to wall string of mexploitation goofiness that starts out being over the top and keeps going from there. Sure there is a plot but who cares right? Jessica Alba has finally found the perfect role for herself. Not that her perfect role is a border patrol officer in Texas trying to track down the leader of the Mexican underground movement known as “the network.,” even though that’s her part here. What I mean to say is Alba is one of the most beautiful actresses in the world, and also one of the worst. Here her ham fisted deliveries and community theater gravitas fit the tone perfectly. Michele Rodriguez is more bad ass in this than she has been in any other film she’s ever made. Think about that. Just let that sink in a moment. Robert De Niro is slumming it and loving it as a slime ball senator trying to rid his beloved state of the vermin that infest it. The film even opens with one of his campaign commercials that inter cuts Mexicans crossing the border with roaches. A tactic Adolf Hitler often used in regards to the Jews. Hey, I never said this sucker was subtle! Danny Trejo, a seasoned character actor for decades finally gets his turn as a leading man. His face has cracks and craters in it the size of the plot holes of this film, but his thousand yard stare and brick on gravel voice lend the perfect anti hero tone. The film culminates with an army of low rider driving Mexicans with gardening shears and taco trucks as weapons in an epic battle that could stand its own against anything in 300 or lord of the rings. Sure it’s not as big on scale, but it’s go for broke attitude is staggering. We’re talking Lindsay Lohan dressed as a nun with an AK47 mowing down federally trash by the dozens (but not before looking out dramatically and saying “in the name of the father!” which is one of about four dozen quotable lines in this film). Or the part where Trejo is trapped on the 4′Th floor of a hospital building being chased down by the bad guys. Cornered and with no way out he simply guts one of them, hangs onto his intestines and jumps out the window, swinging to safety through a 2′nd story window. Although it was made to emulate the cheapy exploitation films of the 70′s and 80′s doesn’t mean there was any less ingenuity and skill implemented. Earlier this year we got THE EXPENDABLES and then PIRANHA 3D. Both films that are making a killing at the box office and scoring big with the critics based on their sheer will to entertain. I’m so glad this Summer ended with this trifecta of sleazy trash. All Summer long we were saddled with pompous pictures that took themselves much too seriously. Here we have a trilogy of trash that aims so far below the belt; they can get away with anything. That freedom is clearly resonating with audiences and I couldn’t’ be happier about this. If this film does well, the other GRINDHOUSE trailers will start going into production. Eli Roth has already stated he’s just about done with the script for his schlocky 80′s slasher THANKSGIVING and is waiting on the studios go ahead after everyone sees what kind of numbers MACHETE does at the box office. I see a bright future ahead for genre lovers.
Bonerific! This is my kinda film
loved every minute of it!!
It was good, not great. In it’s defense it had HUGE expectations to live up to but it just didn’t deliver. Really in order to succeed it had to be better than Planet Terror (or at the very least as good as PT) and it wasn’t even close. *** It’s worth checking out but you’re not missing much by renting it in a couple of months. Almost all of the best moments in the film were in the trailer, which is the case for a lot of movies but if there ever was a movie that should not have had those issues it’s Machete since the trailer was made first, separately, 4 years ago. Plenty of time to think up cool new shit. *** The story is largely a weakened retread of Once Upon A Time In Mexico which would have been fine if Rodriguez and Co. had delivered on the over the top insanity, Planet Terror style. Instead it comes across as one of those movies that *should* be super violent but isn’t, that *should* have insane amounts of sex and nudity but doesn’t. It never really makes good on it’s political aspirations either, actually the movie never really makes good on anything. It’s all just kind of there. I needed it to be >!!!MACHETE!!!< and instead it was just another movie.
MACHETE
This is one amazing film.
It is very creative using the shots from the grindhouse trailer and the real film.
I guess i’m the only one in the theater (and my brother)that respected it as the other viewers were calling it horrible.
This movie does deserve every bit of the 5 star’s.
Just a fantastic movie.. i had a big stupid smile on my face during the entire movie.. never boring, great action, great laughs, great nudity.. i loved what i saw
Machete is now a full length feature and what an awesome feature it is. With great laughs, action, and gore, it’s the perfect summer film. But it’s not over yet, Machete will be back in, “MACHETE KILLS and MACHETE KILLS AGAIN.”
Machete was brilliant in every way. Everything I expected in a Machete movie. I had a smile on my face the entire film. Has great laughs and a ton of awesome gore. To sum it up in a couple words, Fucking Awesome. See it immediately.
Loved this film.A great Exploitation flick that has it all.Fun but bad CGI,Great humor,Beautiful and sometimes naked ladies,Acting was perfect, and a great lead hero.Instant classic!
Very entertaining movie, the politics may offend some , depending on which side of the illegal immigration debate you are on. This movie was very good, but could have been great. The letdown believe it or not is in the action. Being as this is a grind house movie, I expected more violence and more gore. There is enough action to satisfy most, but still I expected more.
I just was this movie and I have to admit, it’s much better than I was expecting. There may not be many movies starring Danny Trejo, but despite what your opinion about him is, he definitely knows how to be the badass of a movie. The acting on everybody’s part, I feel, was excellent. Michelle Rodriguez definitely stole the show, and that’s a lot coming from a Jessica Alba fan. Even the parts with Lindsay Lohan was likable. Definitely a recommendation!
AMAZING.
I give it a hight rating alone for the poster of she ..or whats she called ?
I mean we can do that , as reviewers now can say that a movie is much better , without a ugly lead..
nice trip back to the grindhouse
Yeah, it was fun to go back to the Grindhouse type of picture again. It cracked me up and loved the over the top violence, although I didn’t think it was bloody enough in the final showdown with the big battle. Glad to see Trejo get a lead role even if its for basically a B-movie. If you enjoyed “Grindhouse” a few years ago, then see this movie! Would have been cool with a couple of faux trailers for this movie too!
It was good, a fun afternoon movie
But I kinda agree with the BD reviewer about Danny Trejo. He is awesome but he was pretty much 1 note character-wise. The movie delivered violence but I didn’t get the same kinda feel for Machete like I did with El-Ray in Planet Terror. There was this lack of depth and lines and passion and I don’t think it was Trejo’s fault. The character just wasn’t developed enough for me to really give a shit if he lives or dies. But Michelle Rodriquez made me wish I as a lesbian! Damn, girl was smokin’ hot and her outfit with the eye patch at the end, DAMN! But my favorite part of the movie was Cheech! Oh Cheech, you are one funny Mo’Fo’! I wish Trejo had awesome lines like Cheech.
The film Machete based off the 3min fake Trailer played with Grindhouse back in 2007. And needless to say it should have stayed a 3min trailer. I found this film to be completely unnecessary. But i found the gratuitous Nudity and Bloody stabbings and decapitations to be a bit much after about the 300th person. The movie had potential. But with its extensive running time which felt like it took forever to get over. Was also boring i was eying the exit sign about halfway through the movie. Machete has a good run. But it can’t live up to its faux trailer from the much better “Grindhouse”. The movie boasts and all star cast , including the very likable lead 66 year old “Danny Trejo” the very macho “Steven Segal” who playes the lead bad-guy Torrez. Then this may come as a surprise you have supporting work from Lindsey Lohan (who has a very brief nudity scene in the film). Then also another Robert De Niro who plays a Texas State Senator who despises Immigrants and wants to pass an extremely harsh law against immigrants.
The film starts off back in the old days when Machete (Trejo) was a federale. For the Spanish Government , he is determined to bring down Torrez (Segal) and his drug operation/cartel. But is tricked and decived by the woman he is trying to help and then is captured and is forced to watch the slaughter of his family and then is left for dead. But he survives and 3 years later is a day labor who is just trying to get buy. But one day is approached by Micheal Booth (Jeff Fahey) with a job proposition he can’t refuse shoot the senator “John McLaughlin” but the whole scheme was set – up and was double crossed , the act was only a ploy to boost the senates numbers in the voting poll. Now Machete must get help from a taco stand owner Luz (Michelle Rodriquez) who is part of a network that has enough fire – power to bring down McLaughlin’s entire operation once and for all.
The films prominent stars such as Trejo. Who is as old as my Grandpa and is playing the lead role. The films tenderness to exploit blood and be-headings was a little much , and i thought i had seen it all after Piranha. But i felt the movie was just a little much to handle you have to know what you are getting yourself into before going into this movie. Machete also has some good laughs also , from Cheech Martin who is always funny and great , he plays Machete’s Padre in this film. Then you got a very cheesy and corny bad-guy which he does not deviate from the book at all Steven Segal which i believe this is his first wide – screen release in i do not know how long. But nonetheless. Robert Rodriquez has the right chops and is fairly good at what he does which is bringing us good and original pieces of work tho Machete is original its just boring sitting there watching heads get shot and stabbed and then after you a while its just you seem to get tired with it , then you start to yawn at the fact there are not even done yet!.
Overall Rodriquez’s Machete does not live up to its faux trailer which if it had a good sense it would have stayed that way. Hardcore fans of the trailer and the feel and look of it. Will Rush out and pay there money and see this movie. And chances are if your craving an all out splattering blood-bath there going to be extremely satisfied. But yes i was craving a splattering blood – bath. But that was different i was not craving the whole movie to be like , that i liked the expendables bloodbath tone it had blood bath , but it did not over access and milk it out. Which is where “Machete” gets most of its running time from which is just plan out killing and murdering. The cast is great and is very likable but this bone crunching material is just like i keep saying is MUCH!. The movie has moments where i found humorous. and funny but then it was just like can we please get on with the movie. Machete ends the summer on a bad note.

Thanks For Stoppin Buy ….
i thought it was great it had great gore, and lindsey lohan bacically portraying herself (a cracked out whore) best gore shot was the intestine rope out the window. the only down to the movie was the dialoge was a little week.
awesome!, i had a lot of fun watching this movie.
Great bloody fun!
I’ll make this simple… Anyone who doesn’t think this movie deserves 5 stars is gay. Fucking G-A-Y, I tell you! Get real, for fuck sake!
Machete is a fun and entertaining movie, but I definitely felt a bit cheated in that I was expecting a full-on exploitation film. Honestly, the only exploitative elements to it were those recycled from the trailer from a few years back. The rest of the film is more in line with the action/shooters that Rodriguez did earlier in his career like El Mariachi and Desperado. Not terrible, but not want I was wanting either.
This film was pretty dead on as to what I expected, exploited sex and violence. What I didn’t see coming was a somewhat serious political plot. I took this as more of a good thing it’s just not what I expected. It was actually interesting for Rodiguez to bring an exploitation feel mixed with what’s been going on down at the border of the U.S. and Mexico.
Stand out performances from Trejo(duh), DeNiro(double duh), and Mr. Cheech Marin, who’s little role was hysterical playing a twisted priest.
All in all this film can be summed up by one word, “fun”. It’s worth your $10-12 and it’s a break from the over saturated spy action movies that Hollywood has been spewing out for years now.
This movie started of beautifully but it lost its steam as it went on. It was pretty tame for a “grindhouse” movie to me. But don’t get me wrong I think its a great movie, just expected a little more. On the bright side De Niro, Seagal, Marin, and most of the cast were great IMO. You even get to see a topless Lohan lol. Newayz they should make more movies like this that are just good old school fun.
this movie is effin awesome. i repeat effin awesome. thats all i can say
Machete started out as a faux trailer for Grindhouse and now has been turned into a feature lenght film. Machete is a pure bloody blast. This was a fun exploitation film. Its very violent and very over the top. The cast is just amazing. When you got Danny Trejo, Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Jeff Fahey, Steven Seagal, and Lindsay Lohan you are in for one crazy wild trip. At the end of the film my checks were hurting from all the grinning and laughing that was taking place. Machete is a pure over the top thrill ride that I fully enjoyed.
Im so glad that they went through with making this a feature length movie. It is exactly how I expected it to be, very cheesey and over the top. It was a very fun and entertaining movie but I dont know if I would pay to see it again. If you love these types of Grindhouse movies then by all means go see it but if you can wait than I say wait for the DVD.
Oh shit! That’s what I kept saying during this movie, whether it be because of the gruesome, bloody scenes or because of the drama. Overall this movie was excellent and I would recommend this movie to anyone, even my mom (and she hates horror movies!)So entertaining from beginning to end. Of course the cast was AMAZING and even had Tom Savini in there for a bit : ) Can’t go wrong with this one, especially if you’re a Rodriguez fan! Loved it!
This movie was just what I order a godo dirty throw back to the 70′s grime. It had a shit load of gruesome kills, some of them really funny. It had cool action scenes. And the acting was just what it is suppose to be. Freakin cheesetastic. Shit they even manage to get freaking seagal in this movie after his countless 560 straight to DVD films. He was awesome as the baddy in this. But damn he just keeps gettin fatter everytime I see the dude. Shit they even had don johnson in this film A dude I haven’t seen in a movie since that god awful When In Rome. (don’t get me started on that) so we won’t count that and go with his last acting gig since Nash Bridges And amazing show which also stared the amazing Cheech who was funny as hell like he was in From Dusk.
The movie boasted alot of cheese which is to be expected. De niro was a complete asshole and so was Fahey. And Tom Savini he was mint. LOL…
So bitch all you want I am giving this a 9/10.
Everything I wanted and more! My most anticipated movie of 2010 did not fail to live up to the hype. Not to mention an amazing cast! Do yourself a favor and check this out!
Favorite Movie this Year Cant wait for part 2 and part 3
Favorite Movie this Year Cant wait for part 2 and part 3
The end kinda lost its luster, but overall Danny Trejo kickin ass, and a rediculously fun grindhouse style….sold.
Before Robert Rodriguez made his incredible Planet Terror movie, there was a lot of talk about a indie movie called Machete. Well, 3 years later there it is. Machete is a bloody spectacal with a great cast [including Steven Seagals best performance since Under Siege]. Its good to see that Danny Trejo is using his first lead performance to increase his acting to killing people with a Machete. And thats fine, because the movie is called Machete. So Machete is getting a 8 out of 10.
My favorite movie of 2010 thus far. Alexandre Aja, listen up..this is seventies style exploitation done right. There wasn’t one scene in this movie I wasn’t enteratained by, the cast is simply TOP NOTCH, the action..true carnage. GENIUS…
yup i fuckin loved this movie sure most will look for and point out its flaws but come on people its a movie i loved this movie os much i went to watch twice at the theatre which is a miracle for me since most movies end up coming up short but i really did like what robert rodriguez did with this whole movie.I know after you watch this you’ll point out its a mexploitation type of film especially after the recent things in arizona bewring but i loved how danny trejo finally got to play the lead role of this movie and the women which are plenty namely jessica alba and lindsay lohan are nice to watch and day dream about while on screen.i really hope they end up making a sequle to this movie and bring back the remaining cast along with the badass motherfucker trejo himself the cameo by cheech marin was funny too and well done for such a small role and jeff fahey did a good job as one of the villains in the flick too the intro to the movie was awesome i loved the grunge style screen they had going for awhile and the music was good for what it was.if i had any complaints it would the way a certain person dies in the movie and i wont spoil it for you but i would haved did a vicious death scene for that characther in machete and micheele rodriguez is fucking gorgeous as hell in the movie.and the ending credits were funny too i want them sequels..VIVA MACHETE and oh yeah MACHETE DONT TEXT HA AH
This is what you get when you cross Planet Terror with Desperado. A balls to the wall mexploitation throwback that knows exactly what kind of movie it is and is an absolute riot to watch. If you’ve seen the Grindhouse trailer then you know exactly what to expect, and then some. Even though the blood and action take center stage, Rodriguez also tells a pretty good story filled with likeable characters played by top notch actors. Danny Trejo finally gets the leading man role he deserves. If there was one role he was born to play it’s certainly this one. The rest of the cast also do a fine job, especially Steven Segal and Michelle Rodriguez. As expected the blood and gore is way OTT and the film hits the ground running and never lets up. This would make a great double feature with Piranha 3D as both movies revel in their silliness. If it’s non stop action and bloody thrills your after then you can’t go past Machete.
I thought this film could have been better, but when you consider the genre it’s actually a smash hit!
Here’s our full review: http://zoopy.com/q/55ui
The video review includes a short interview with Danny Trejo aka Machete Cortez!
An interesting movie to say the least.. The egg scene still has me going “wth”.
The acting was fairly good though, I didn’t like the effects they went for, the comedy turned out to be pretty good, once again though, a very strange movie. I liked it though, it wasn’t bad.. It was pretty entertaining
this movie kicked @$$.it was awsome.robert rodriguez best movie so far
This is the movie my friends and I have waited three long years to see. It’s very bloody, gory, sexy, kinky and funny and that’s what makes it a good movie to see with your buds. I noticed there were a few scenes from the faux trailer that weren’t used in the movie, but it won’t ruin the fun. Danny Trejo stars as Machete, a former Mexican Federale turned renegade. Three years after a drug-lord named Torrez killed his family, Machete is in Texas trying to find work. Machete is soon hired by a businessman named Booth to kill the corrupt Senator McLaughlin. After Machete is set-up, double crossed, and left for dead, he puts together a team of illegal immigrants to kill the bad guys. If you wanna eff with the wrong Mexican, I highly recommend MACHETE!!!
A funny, action-packed, gore-filled and super-entertaining exploitation movie.
Pros:
An incredibly amazing cast
(Danny Trejo, Robert De Niro, Jeff Fahey, Steven Seagal, Don Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Tom Savini, Cheech Marin…),
loads of highly memorable and unforgettable scenes
(impressive opening, the ‘intestinal swing’ out of the window, the crucifixion, the TV commercials for Senator McLaughlin…),
loads of fabulous dialogue and one-liners (“Machete don’t text.” / “I thought Machete don’t text! – “Machete improvise.” / “You’re Machete’s girl. I know ’cause you’re his type.” – “What type is that?” – “Dead.”),
terrific special effects, cool camera work and a brilliant soundtrack.
Cons:
A few pointlessly dull scenes, a slightly disappointing climax and a pretty annoying Lindsay Lohan.
Overall:
Classic Rodriguez stuff. Could have been a bit more kick-ass but eventually it’s one helluva b-movie fun ride.
PS
In terms of this year’s action cinema it’s IMO not as entertaining as “A-Team”, but thankfully it’s way, waaaaay better than the grotty “Expendables”.
This movie was pretty damn awesome. Gore galore and great action. I really liked this movie. I think the movie did a great job of using parts of the trailer and building the movie off of that. The only thing that was kind of a let down was the ending. It was kind of anticlimatic and had a few wtf moments due to lindsay lohan and steven segal at the end. Speaking of lohan I do like her but I really didn’t care for her in this flim. Other than that I thought this movie was really entertaining. I know some people might dislike the social issues the movie deals with but to me the movies meant to be entertaining and not meant to be taken seriously so just sit back and like machete would say “machete made a good movie movie”
You’ve just BEEPED with the wrong Mexican! Machete is badass, shlocky B-flick entertainment at its finest. You have strong performances, a fresh direction, and some sweet gore. What more can you ask for? Not only that but “Machete” is one of the most fun cinematic experiences you’ll have ever have and is easily unforgettable. Not to mention this movie pretty much has everything. A mother, daughter, and Machete make-out session, a girl pulls a cell phone from her lady parts, Machete rides a dude’s intestines like a swing, beefy Steven Seagul, Eva Mandes, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, oh and who could forget, the one and only, Danny Trejo. With a 72% on Rotten Tomatoes and just as solid fan reception, apparently I’m not the only one that likes “Machete”. I highly recommend this movie. My only complaint is that this movie goes by so fast that you’re left wanting more. Nevertheless, it’s a fun movie worth your time and money.
this movie is alot of fun to watch! classic robert rodriguez! always thought m. rodriguez was hot, but goddamn! is she fuckin’ hot! the only problem i have is that the movie plods on for the middle half, but no big deal. definately worth checkin’ out!!
Machete is one hell of a badass movie. The gore is great and the acting is amazing. There’s just enough comedy to not be too chessy. Machete is a blast to watch and I hope Robert Rodriguez goes through with making the sequels, Machete Kills and Machete Kills Again.
Pretty good movie, lots of gore which is nice, I love when he grabbed the dudes intestines and jumped to the second floor, so goood, Indiana Jones style lol
I haven’t seen a fun action movie like this since the 80′s or early 90′s (And they were trying to be serious). Just the fact that so many actors worked outside of their comfort zone, makes this movie hard not to like. “Machete” breaks all the rules and leaves you with a bloodbath of excitement. Funny as hell, how this ugly bastard gets all of these women to fall for him. Only in the movies.
This was THE best movie of 2010.It should a 10/10
It was so nice to see Danny Trejo in a leading roll for once. I wish my cousin directed movies. Great over the top violent action movie.
BLOOD, BLOOD AND MORE BLOOD… A lot of hot chics, action and intense story line.
Loved this! This is an awesome film, give it a try for sure.
holy shit this was a blast!
AWSOME!!!!
Exactly what you want it to be. Robert Rodriguez delivers the goods. My one complaint is the movie is slightly long.
I disagree with most of the reviews here, Robert Rodrguez is a director that enjoys great recognition, but from my point of view all his films are crap, and this is no exception. Whenever it looks like Quentin Tarantino, but Quentin has a couple of very good movies, but instead the movies of Robert leave much to be desired.
Machete is a movie too exaggerated, full of ridiculous moments and bad counted, the performances are good, but the stories are poorly told, the action scenes are so long and silly that produce embarrassment.
The only thing good is the reunion of actors from different style on the screen.
Born of a fake trailer and made by the original craftsman, Robert Rodriguez’s “Machete” has finally, and recently, released. Before you start reading my two cents on this thing, let me tell you this: read all kinds of reviews for this movie. Some will like it; some will love it; and some will just plain despise it. This is a tasteless, violent, and potentially offensive film that may come off as racist and stereotypical to some, but then again, both things are coming from a director who is Mexican himself.
Look, dozens of action films get released each year, and nearly all of them are worth skipping. If you want a film that gets the job done, especially when it comes to honest action scenes, then here’s your movie. “Machete” is a typical day in the world of Robert Rodriguez; complete with machine guns, Mexicans, and blood, blood, blood. Luckily, this film is well-made and features some damn fine visual editing, and therefore, I do not find it tasteless. But never mind what I think: what do YOU think? I suppose that you could take offense when it comes to this film, although you should know that commentary is not what this film intends to have. It wants to be fun, fast, violent, and funny; and I for one believe that it’s all of these things. It does what it wants to do well, and yes, I’d recommend it for that.
The story is simple, and isn’t really the focus of the production. The movie itself is about a myth/legend who calls himself “Machete”. He’s been on the run from many people for many years, specifically after a guy kills his wife. So the tough Mexican wants revenge, yes? Yeah, I’d think he would. You don’t just make someone watch you decapitate their wife and expect them to just…you know…forget about it. Even more troublesome is the fact that Machete is not accepted in America, nor is he particularly liked in his native land. In America, he’s screwed because a Senator wants all Mexicans out of his country. Machete is kind of pissed at the guy, and when a job just so happens to come up, involving an assassination, he takes the money and delivers some justice. But oh, what’s this? Machete is double-crossed, by the man who hired him as an assassin. So Machete wants revenge on two people, as it would appear. And he’s made a vow to himself to get it, with the help of a sexy Immigrations and Customs Agent, an equally as beautiful myth/legend who lives the life that Machete lives, and finally, Machete’s priest-brother; who is willing to serve some good justice when needed.
This film does do something, in spite of how doggone nonsensical it is. But it’s meant to be nonsensical, and it’s a shame that quite a few people don’t get that. This isn’t the perfect action film, nor is it the perfect homage to anything, but if you admire cinephiles-as-filmmakers, then you will enjoy what Rodriguez has cooked up this time. The casting for this film is pitch-perfect, as Danny Trejo makes for a heck of a bad-ass Mexican. There’s something that I find charming, awesome, and funny about Trejo, and I laugh every time I so much as see the great man. Then there’s the supporting cast, which is genuinely colorful. If you want to see Steven Seagal in an almost self-mocking role, then here’s your chance. And hey, if you ever wanted to see Robert DeNiro get shot in the leg by a vengeful Mexican, and you kind of HAVE to admit that you do, then by golly: why pass this film up? I laughed enough, and the action sequences really delivered on the blood and over-the-top ridiculousness. This film knows what it’s doing, and it’s actually superbly crafted on a technical level. Superb editing and taut cinematography help this movie to be better than it probably has the right to be, and for all its absurd beauty, “Machete” is easy to recommend and damn hard to pass up.
All hype crap not even jessica alba could save this film.
BALLIN
All I have to say right there. love
I got a kick out of this movie, definetely had decent kills a humor.
I didn’t have so much fun with an Action Movie for ages.
Written by: Robert Rodriguez and Alvaro Rodriguez
Directed By: Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis
Starring : Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez and Robert De Niro
Born from the 2007 Double Feature PLANET TERROR (also directed by Rodriguez), MACHETE hurdles full bore into the hey day of New Yorks Grind House cinema before the opening credits even roll. Trejo stars an an ex-Federale left without a family after they are murdered by an expansionist drug dealer, played wonderfully by Steven Segal. Down on his luck and looking for work, Machete sneaks across the border hoping to find direction. After he gets picked up by Jeff Fahey for, what he thinks, is day labor work – all hell breaks loose.
The movie is certainly fun. Things get blown up, blood splatters, bullets fly, Lindsey Lohan has a threesome in a swimming pool with her on screen mother – certainly enough to keep someones attention. Rodriguez as writer/director, does a very good job of keeping the somewhat convoluted plot moving forward while at the same time given the promised gore/boobies/bullets quotient. Unfortunately, Rodriguez doesn’t know when to say when. For a shoot ‘em up action based film, it does become repetitive and start to drag, especially towards the end.
The other disappointment here is Trejo. He’s a great character actor, hell, he’s a great character in real life. But he seems over whelmed here. Maybe it’s the size of the role or the talent in his supporting cast. He just never seems to take over the film the way a title star should. The film does have some tremendous performances. Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez star as antagonists who become allies. Shea Wingham, who first turned heads in the indie fright flick SPLINTER, is great as Jeff Faheys assistant, as is Segal playing the imperialistic drug dealer Torrez.

fun film, but could have been alot better
