Retarded plot, a little too long, amazing scenes of destruction.
Make no mistake about this film it is a gargantually…retarted movie. It may be one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen in fact but I still managed to have a pretty good time. I know many of you will be saying well what did you expect it’s from the director of Day After Tomorrow, Independence Day, Stargate, 10,000 BC, The Patriot and Universal Soldier. All for which I can say I enjoyed some much more than others. To me his films have always been fine tuned popcorn machines. The truth about 2012 is it’s kind of a mess and I don’t think he’s ever really made a bad movie, this is a bad movie. If your not getting the jist of what I’m trying to say let’s put it this way for those of you who had problems with XXX being unrealistic beware. Because this is the most jaw droppingly silly film ever made. What’s it about? Basically the prophecy of world apocalypse from the Mayan civilization brutally ripped apart and dumbed down by the Hollywood machine. You don’t care about any of the charachters well except for Jimi Mistry, oddly enough. The acting is mediocre(John Cusack) to horrendous (Amanda Peet) and there are just some really weird ones thrown in (Woody Harrelson). The visual effects are striking at times and really cheestastic at others. The green screen is so majorly overused too much in this film. What the film does have to offer is an admirable devotion to its stupidity which makes the proceedings at times to be so extremely entertaining. In fact for most of the film I was pretty much on board. The LA scene outlined in the trailer and Tv spots isn’t really suspenseful but it’s shockingly fun. But in it’s ponderous last 40 mins it lost me mainly with an unintentionally laughable moment with a stereotypical Russian thug and a flying kid. And it’s a moment that will be remembered forever. It’s in that moment that I realized that nothing can really, truly redeem this film from it’s obsurdity and length. So with that I say that I’m happy that I saw it and may peek again on DVD just for a few scenes but another full viewing the future does not hold. All in all not the disturbing impact you’d effect but if anything discourages any realistic fear aligned with prophecy altogether.
A dumb and high paced destruction spectacular! That describes this movie pretty well. The plot is thin, a bit like the plot of “The Day After Tomorrow”. The action is over the top, and the acting is fun at times.
If you love disaster movies like “The Day After Tomorrow”, “Independents day” and “Godzilla” you wont be disappointing with this movie. The pacing is high, and there is only very little whining about the catastrophy (unlike the in shitty Armageddon”. The movie is pretty much a big explosion of effects, where the the characters are only secondary. Try to listen to their hilariously bad accents, lol!
You wont leave the theater feeling dissapointed since the movie is entertaining at all times. But you wont be blown away, since the movie has no originality at all.
An visually exciting and thrilling disaster flick that was unrelenting when it came to total destruction, which made the runtime go by in a flash. On the downside it was all too familiar with not a strong enough script, plot/story or characters to make it rise above and be on top of all the other disaster/end of the world flicks of the past and to be honest that made it not as involving this time around. I thought the acting was ok but not the greatest but I do think Chiwetel Ejiofor who played Adrian Helmsley was the standout actor here. The special effects are the star of this movie and is the only thing that makes this film watchable, without it the film would of been a complete dud, still it was better than the director’s other film The Day After Tomorrow but to me the best disaster/end of the world movie of 2009 will have to be Knowing. Overall the previews pretty much show most of the best parts of the movie and unfortunately it’s not the disaster flick we’ve all been waiting for and they just didn’t add anything fresh or eventful to that particular genre, but as far as popcorn flicks go it’s decent and worth at least one viewing.
Visually AWESOME. I did feel like I thought about what I would change in the movie though but it was good.
It’s Roland Emmerich. That’s about it.
Typical american brainless movie, no sccript, TOTALLY CLICHE, i’ve never seen a movie with so many cliches like this one… Stupid, very stupid and ridiculous. The effects were good (the only thing).
The special effects were brilliant. The acting and writing was cheese pure cheese, but it’s Emmerch so what do you expect Clint Eastwood. You see his movies for the action, and to see shit get the fuck blown up. And that lady and gentlemen is what you get. Hell yeah it’s cliche, but how do you make a movie like this thats not cliche. I think the only one I saw so far that really isn’t all that cliche is Knowing. But it was still a good movie. I liked it a lot I got what I paid for.
would give it any 8/9 out o 10 but thinking of the Horror I give it a 6 coz it soo supernautral/thriller with loads of action and tenses moments. It the greatest Distaer movie I seen so far (ope it will never happen)
This was the best disaster film I have ever seen. It was so visually amazing that I could’nt take my eyes off the screen. Ya the acting and dialogue could have been better but who cares. You dont see those kinds of movies to see oscar worthy performances you see it to see mayem and destruction. One of the best movies of ’09.
Boaring movie don’t watch it your wasteing your time! Not exciting at all.
Visually it was awesome MOST of the time, but its seriously one of the cheesiest / stupidest movie of all time. Its worth watching for the destruction but you really have to turn your brain off to be able to sit through this one. Also, they show all the best parts of the movie in the trailer. Lame.
Is this movie fascist or cynical, because ***SPOILER*** Is it so morally upright to save a few hundred people when you just let BILLIONS of people die? ***END SPOILER***
Yeah, and if you’ve seen Independence Day and/or The Day After Tomorrow then you’ve already seen this movie. Cliche, hammy, cheesy, bad acting, stereotypical characters, predictable, lots of cgi stuff blowing up, etc.
2012 was pretty much what I expected to be, although I expected more disaster scenes. With this kind of movie you already know what your gonna get, it kinda just feels like day after tomorrow part 2. Watch it once and move on. But if you didn’t like Day After… then skip this one and pop in a horror movie instead.
Visually exciting. Kept me on the edge of my seat holding my breath, but the acting needed much help. Over all a decent movie to pass time.
HIGHLY Overrated.
Money can buy big gracifs but it cant buy raitings
I don’t really understand why this movie is even on this site, it’s not horror by any stretch, but it is a good movie. Big budget Hollywood special effects, and an interesting story to go along with it. Hopefully we’ll still get to write our reviews on Dec.22,2012
the F/X were very good and had a ok story but the screenplay was bad and the characters were annoing. It seemed more like they were making a mockery instead of just making a good ole end of the world film. For me Woody Harelson’s Character should of been the lead, because instead of the F/X he was the only thing that allowed me to watch this film all the way thru.
I agree with Evil Thing. Just watched it last night in 1080P. Awesome F/X and worth seeing just for that. Good idea, but the actors just get on your nerves. Very predicable.
Nhey or Yay?
…
NHEY!!!!
Lame retarded tinka minka end of the world who-hash.
This was an awesome disaster flick people! If you like that kind of thing you’ll love it! If not stay clear.I for one enjoy it every now and then.Plus this one had Cusack and Harrelson so that made it better than the usual too!
LAME.
A terrible movie…
mindless entertainment that i actually enjoyed
I liked that there was drama along with the action and the special effects were great
This is a big bowl of BORING CEREAL!,all i liked about this film was John Cusack’s acting, and the kills:)
This movie stinks.
Fairly par for the course. This movie did have some great special effects but it was very slow in parts.
Oh come on this can’t seriously be considered horror… sometimes I wonder why certain movies are on this site.
Anywho, hated the stupid underlying plot with John Cusack (I hate John Cusack.) But as a whole I like the movie. The effects are awesome and I love all the religious symbolism that you can find.
It makes me more sad than anything in truth, I hope I don’t actually have to go through this next year… I’ll be pissed.
Mediocre at best. DEFINITELY not horror material. Basically the writers seemed to have watched a few specials on the apocalypse from the history channel and threw John Cusack into the midst of it all. Hoorays
Pretty well done. Worth a watch, but not a horror movie.
good movie, but how do you get horror from it?
When this date comes and goes it will prove the end of the world is nothing but a way to make money.
Mindless eye candy!Great Effects and Woody Harrelson’s role was classic. The rest of the cast of characters were all good but remember it’s a disaster movie so it’s suppose to be cheesy!Worth a rent or thrown in during a party!
What does this movie here? It’s terrible.
This isn’t even a horror movie lol but still a good movie nonetheless.
