Anchor Bay Acquires ‘Bait 3D,’ Will It Get 3D Release?

Anchor Bay Films has snapped up North American distribution rights to Australian horror-actioner Bait 3D, although release plans weren’t mentioned. I wonder if they’re following Piranha 3DD with a 3-D VOD release? Either way, the originally released footage was beyond terrible and looked less impressive than Universal Studios Orlando’s now defunct “Jaws: The Ride.” READ MORE

Watch a Tsunami Hit in Behind-the-Scenes ‘Bait 3D’ Video

In Kimble Rendall’s Bait 3D, a tsunami has brought unwanted visitors from the depths. Not only must a group of locals overcome the threat of drowning and the predator within their midst, but a threat far more deadly and far more bloodthirsty – packs of hungry tiger sharks. This past week a sequence was shot involving hundreds of extras where they appear to be fleeing the town in the midst of the tsunami. Check out a bunch of screaming, and giggling inside. New Director Takes Arclight’s ‘Bait’

According to the Caleel Agency (among a few other agency sources) Kimble Rendall will replace Russell Mulcahy as the director for Arclight Films’ Bait 3D. Jesse Spencer was originally attached to star, with previous offers out to both Xavier Samuel (The Loved Ones, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) and Julian McMahon (Faces in the Crowd, “Nip/Tuck”), sources tell Bloody Disgusting. No word on the status of their involvement. Rendall was the second unit director on such films as Knowing, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans and the two Matrix sequels. In a sleepy coastal resort community, shoppers at an underground supermarket find themselves terrorized by a crazed bandit when the unimaginable occurs… A monstrous freak tsunami swallows the town. Now trapped inside a flooded supermarket with an armed maniac and rushing water threatening to entomb them all in a watery grave, the imprisoned band of survivors discover they’re not alone. The tsunami has brought some unwanted visitors from the depths. As the waters rise they must overcome not only the threat of drowning, but another threat, just as deadly and far more bloodthirsty… Packs of hungry tiger sharks. (more…) READ MORE

Update: Aussie Native Jesse Spencer Becomes Tiger Shark ‘Bait’

Update: A rep for Spencer writes us telling us he is NOT going to be in the film. Further research on our end showed he was in talks at one point (an Australian production outfit had list him as cast). Bloody Disgusting is behind told that there has been a name attached to Russell Mulcahy’s 3-D shark flick Bait 3D. Aussie local Jesse Spencer has been signed on for a role in the bloody thriller penned by Mulcahy, Shane Krause, and Shayne Armstrong. The pic takes place when a tidal wave strikes the coast of Australia, and the survivors need to escape the sharks that now besiege the town. Spencer can be seen in the Adgar Allan Poe adaptation Tell-Tale and as a regular on Fox’s “House M.D.”. Mulcahy directed the incredible Razorback, along with Highlander, Resident Evil: Extinction and the forthcoming “Teen Wolf” pilot for MTV. (more…) READ MORE

Promo Art and Synopsis for Russell Mulcahy’s ‘Bait 3D’

While Aussie director Russell Mulcahy disappointed me with Resident Evil: Extinction, I’m still clinging on to the fact that the man brought us not only Highlander, but also the beautiful horror film Razorback, about a giant killer wild boar. Next up is his first 3-D feature, Bait, which is to be produced by Darclight. Beyond the break you’ll find the sales art, along with the full synopsis. (more…) READ MORE
