New ‘Red Riding Hood’ Imagery Takes You to Grandma’s House

Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke takes a fresh stab at the werewolf genre with Red Riding Hood, the Warner Bros. horror drama starring Amanda Seyfried, Shiloh Fernandez, Max Irons, Julie Christie, Gary Oldman, Michael Hogan, Lukas Haas and Virginia Madsen. Arriving in theaters March 11, we now got our hands on a brand new batch of leaked imagery featuring your first look at “grandma’s house”. David Leslie Johnson (Orphan) wrote the script, which is set in a village haunted by a werewolf. It is a Gothic retelling of the “Little Red Riding Hood story”, with a teenage love triangle at its center. The trailer premiered online and teased what looks like yet another Twilight-inspired dramatic thriller. I hope it goes a bit further than I suspect… (more…) READ MORE

Best & Worst of 2010: The Year’s Worst One Sheets

The task of selling a film is probably much, much harder than any of us realize, which is why posters meant to stir up excitement for upcoming releases are often so badly calculated. 2010 has been no exception, with a large number of god-awful (or just plain boring) one-sheets cluttering up the lobbies of multiplexes all across the country. Here’s B-D’s list of the worst offenders from the past year. (more…) READ MORE

‘Twilight’ Revisited in ‘Red Riding Hood’ Teaser Trailer, Poster Debut

I’ve always been a fan of Catherine Hardwicke. I loved Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown, and I even thought Twilight was passable. But when she announced she’d be tackling Red Riding Hood for Warner Bros. Pictures, I expected her to shy away from the Twilight-esque drama and show us what she can do without Summit Entertainment producers barking in her ear. Apple.com premiered the trailer for the David Leslie Johnson (Orphan) penned story that looks like nothing more than Twilight with the lead love interest being a werewolf. Wait, that’s kind of the plot of New Moon, right? Anyways, the footage looks great, and I love Amanda Seyfried, Shiloh Fernandez and Gary Oldman, so maybe there’s something to this modern day “Little Red Riding Hood” tale arriving in theaters March 11? Check out the footage, poster premiere and synopsis inside. Tell us what YOU think. (more…) READ MORE

Update: ‘Texas Chainsaw’ Director Thanks the Gods for Possible ‘Clash’ Directing Gig

Update: Dan Mazeau, who worked for Warners on “The Flash”, is being paired with David Leslie Johnson, writer of “The Girl with the Red Riding Hood,” the studio’s horror thriller starring Amanda Seyfried that is in pre-production, to write “Clash of the Titans 2.”” With the fake 3-D remake of Clash of the Titans nearing $500 million worldwide at the box office, Warner Bros. Pictures is fast-tracking a sequel with plans on shooting as early at January, reports the LA Times. It was already revealed that Louis Leterrier would not be returning to the director’s chair (thank the Gods (pun intended)), not the LA Times is writing that the frontrunner replacement is none other than Jonathan Liebesman, the man behind Darkness Falls, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and the forthcoming Battle: Los Angeles. Shooting in early 2011 is also a priority because the studio needs to make sure star Sam Worthington, who is committed to shoot Avatar 2 (likely later in the year), is free and clear. Hopefully they actually shoot it in 3-D this time (or not at all). (more…) READ MORE

Amanda Seyfried’s Romantic Interest Cast in Hardwicke’s ‘Riding Hood’

Some exquisite casting news tonight as Joaquin Phoenix/Johnny Depp look-alike Shiloh Fernandez (Deadgirl, Red) has nabbed the male romantic lead in The Girl With the Red Riding Hood, Warner Bros.’ gothic horror re-imagining of the “Little Red Riding Hood” fairy tale. Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown, Twilight) is directing the pic, in which Amanda Seyfried (Jennifer’s Body) will play a woman in a medieval village being terrorized by a werewolf. The studio is making sure they’re happy with their choice (and they sure as hell should be) as Fernandez is said to have screen-tested and read seven times before nabbing the role of Peter, an orphaned woodcutter for whom Seyfried falls, much to the displeasure of her family. Amanda Seyfried Frontrunner to Topline Hardwicke’s ‘The Girl With the Red Riding Hood’?

Warner Bros. Pictures is now in the Catherine Hardwicke business (smart move if you ask me, she’s the only thing good about Twilight) with the previously announced The Girl With the Red Riding Hood, a new werewolf movie written by David Johnson (Orphan). The gothic retelling of the “Little Red Riding Hood” story with a teenage love triangle at its center might have found its lead as the LA Times is reporting that Jennifer’s Body star Amanda Seyfried is a potential frontrunner. According to the Times, Warner Bros. needs to go into production soon if they’re going to keep Hardwicke onboard. Fingers crossed ’cause I still think she’s the real deal. (more…) READ MORE
