Stephen King Doesn’t “Get” Remaking ‘Carrie’

Even though the announcement implied author Stephen King would be “game” for MGM and Screen Gems’ rehashing of Carrie through his relationship with writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (he wrote the graphic novel version of King’s “The Stand”), in actuality the horror icon doesn’t see the point. Special Feature: ‘Scream 4,’ Slicing Into New Rules & Conventions

In the decade-plus period of time that has passed since the release of Scream 3, there’s no doubt that the horror landscape has changed significantly. In the intervening years we’ve witnessed the rise of the torture porn craze, seen a resurgence in “found footage”/shaky-cam horror, and watched helplessly as a seemingly unyielding series of remakes cluttered up our local multiplexes. Best & Worst ’10: BC’S BOTTOM 10 OF 2010

The worst list was much easier for me to make than my ‘best’ list – barely a week went by without me being massively disappointed with something. Overall, it seems the main problem is filmmakers being more in love with their technology than their stories. All of these movies (OK, SOME of them) are well made, but all the bells and whistles can’t make up for a shit script. There’s just way too much mediocrity out there as of late, and looking over this list and next year’s schedule, I fear a 90s style wasteland may be fast approaching. Try harder, studios and filmmakers. (more…) READ MORE

Steam Pours From Nicolas Cage’s Ears in Latest ‘Drive Angry’ Still

I can’t even begin to describe the positive buzz surrounding Patrick Lussier’s Drive Angry 3D, his latest collaboration with writer Todd Farmer (My Bloody Valentine, Hellraiser) that features the off-the-charts sexy Amber Heard (Mandy Lane, Zombieland, The Stepfather), alongside madman Nicolas Cage who plays a man driven by rage who is chasing the people who killed his daughter and kidnapped her baby. The vendetta/rescue spins out of control as the chase gets bloodier by the mile, leaving bodies strewn along the highway. Summit Entertainment will release this bad boy in theaters February 25 in real 3D. (more…) READ MORE

One of our favorite things to do here at Bloody Disgusting is let our writers take the ball and run with it. What would be the point in bringing you content if we didn’t enjoy writing it? Today he would like to present to you a new list, “The Top 10 Most Influential Horror Movies You’ve NEVER Even Heard Of (…Let Alone Seen),” all of which were released before Hitchcock’s seminal Psycho. Breaking: Next ‘Hellraiser’ Director Found, Amber Heard Lead Hottie?

Update: NEW DIRECTOR named. News here. We landed some huge news this weekend as we’ve confirmed that Christian E. Christiansen (say that ten times fast) is circling Dimension Films’ big budget Hellraiser remake. As it was previously reported, the Victor Garcia low budget sequel, Revelations, was greenlit in order for the Weinstein Company to retain the rights (much like they did in 2005 with both Deader and Hellworld). Based on what I’ve heard from various people who have pitched their version of Hellraiser, the Weinsteins are looking for someone to make the franchise fitted for “teens” (super, super, super lame), thus making the director of Sony Screen Gems’ The Roommate perfect for the gig. This leads beautifully into the news that the company hopes (nothing is signed) to land Amber Heard (Mandy Lane, Zombieland, The Stepfather) in the lead role. As much as I’m infatuated with Heard, you can’t get more “teen” than that. Coming soon to a theater near you: Pinhead vs Sorority Row… (more…) READ MORE

Anchor Bay Officially Announces ‘And Soon the Darkness’ DVD/Blu-ray

While hitting limited theaters on December 17, Anchor Bay Home Entertainment has announced DVD ($26.98) and Blu-ray ($34.99) releases of And Soon the Darkness for December 28th. Extras will include an audio commentary (participants to be confirmed), a making of featurette, and deleted scenes. Marcos Efron’s remake stars both Amber Heard (Zombieland, Mandy Lane, The Stepfather, The Ward) and Odette Yustman (Cloverfield, The Unborn). Yesterday Bloody Disgusting got the first look at the official theatrical poster for the thriller that’s set in Argentina, and tells the story of two American girls on a bike-riding trip in a remote part of the country. When one of them goes missing, the other must find her before darkness falls and her worst fears are realized. The original was set in France and tackled the idea of how vulnerable a stranger in a strange land can be. (more…) READ MORE

TIFF ’10: A Difficult Interview with John Carpenter on ‘The Ward’!

John Carpenter’s The Ward, the first feature the celebrated director has helmed since 2001’s Ghosts of Mars, is premiering later this month at the Midnight Madness portion of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). This week Mr. Disgusting had the chance to chat with Carpenter about why The Ward was the project to break his nine-year feature-film dry spell, what it was like working with a heavily female cast, and if there are any films in his directing canon that he would never want to see remade. Read inside for the skinny. (more…) READ MORE

SD Comic-Con ’10: Amber Heard a Super Hot Motherf*cker in ‘Drive Angry 3D’!

Bloody Disgusting’s BC just got back from an exclusive 1:1 chat with Amber Heard where she talked about her intense role in Summit Entertainment’s Drive Angry 3D. She tells us that her character is “a cowboy boot wearing, potty-mouthed, charger-driving, gun-toting, motherfucker,” and that she does a lot of her own stunts, and didn’t need driving training (’cause she drives hot rods and fixes ‘em up). She also explains that she’s not interesting in playing the bikini-ass typical girl in distress roles like in The Stepfather. Uh, BC, why didn’t you ask if she’s single? (more…) READ MORE

Huge Casting News for ‘Drive Angry 3D’!

Bloody Disgusting learned of some kickass casting news for Patrick Lussier’s Drive Angry 3D, which is penned by Todd Farmer (MBV:3D). In talks to join Nicolas Cage on a road to revenge are both William Fichtner (Blades of Glory, The Dark Knight, “Prison Break”) and the beautiful, wonderful, stupendous Amber Heard (All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, Zombieland, The Stepfather, And Soon the Darkness and John Carpenter’s forthcoming The Ward). Amber Heard=scream queen? She’s working towards it! Shooting begins in Shreveport, Louisiana this coming March with a February 11, 2011 release locked in place by Summit. The story centers on a man (Cage) driven by rage who is chasing the people who killed his daughter and kidnapped her baby. The vendetta/rescue spins out of control as the chase gets bloodier by the mile, leaving bodies strewn along the highway. (more…) READ MORE

Best & Worst of 2009: The Year’s Best One Sheets

Before any footage from a film is seen, typically a teaser or full one sheet is released by a studio. This is an incredibly important, even detrimental process as it is the first thing the consumers will see and identify with a movie. If the poster stinks, the consumer might write it off all together, while a good poster could lead to them checking out the official website, trailer and best case scenario, hanging it from their wall (the most personal relationship any of us have with a movie). To say the least, posters are damn important. As part of our year end coverage, we present to you the year’s best theatrical posters. (more…) READ MORE

Early ‘The Stepfather’ DVD/Blu-ray Date

Are you ready to spend Valentine’s Day with Amber Heard in a bathing suit (for nearly the whole movie)? Videa ETA is reporting that Sony Screen Gems’ tame remake of The Stepfather will be arriving on DVD and Blu-ray February 9th. No other details are available at this time. In the film Michael Harding (Penn Badgley) returns home from military school to find his mother (Sela Ward) happily in love and living with her new boyfriend, David (Dylan Walsh). As the two men get to know each other, Michael becomes more and more suspicious of the man who is always there with a helpful hand. Is he really the man of her dreams or could David be hiding a dark side? (more…) READ MORE

A Hilarious Brief Chat with Amber Heard, Star of ‘Stepfather’ & ‘Zombieland’

I don’t particularly like to talk to an actor about a film I haven’t seen, and Sony/Screen Gems did not hold any advance screenings for The Stepfather. But I couldn’t resist the chance to talk to the lovely Amber Heard about her role in the film, which opens today. Based on what I know from the trailer, she plays a blonde girl who is the girlfriend of a guy that is at odds with The Stepfather, and throughout the course of the film she gets startled and is ultimately menaced by a buzzsaw. So keep reading for what she thinks about shooting those shots, which I am guessing are parts of entire scenes that can be seen in the finished film. (more…) READ MORE

Update: ‘The Stepfather’ HD Trailer Now Online

This morning B-D reader Joey M. tipped us off to the trailer for The Stepfather remake, which was directed by Prom Night‘s Nelson McCormick. While I typically shy away from Sony Screen Gems movies (they’re made for kids), seeing Dylan Walsh from “Nip/Tuck” and the sexy, sexy Amber Heard (All the Boys Love Mandy Lane) have made it worth checking out. What did you guys think of the trailer? I got a kick out of the “America’s Most Wanted” image that looks nothing like Walsh’s character. Screen Gems has slated the pic for release on October 16th, 2009. (more…) READ MORE

Sony Screen Gems Remaking ‘Blind Terror’

Another remake tip came in this evening (this has been one crazy mother-friggin’ month) as we were tipped off that Sony Screen Gems is developing Unseen, a remake of the 1971 classic Blind Terror (aka See No Evil) that starred Mia Farrow as a recently blinded woman who’s sent off to her relatives’ farm and what happens when they are murdered. J.S. Cardone – who wrote The Stepfather, The Covenant and Prom Night for Screen Germs – is penning the screenplay. (more…) READ MORE
