OK. I just went to see this movie tonight, This movie was won of the worst movies I have seen in a long time. I was going in thinking it would be like ID4. I was so wrong. It really has no story people at a party aliens show up for no reason. Abduct people. That’s pretty much it. All it was just special effects that saved this movie if anything. So save your money and go buy your self an extend edition of Avatar at least that’s worth watching a good alien story line. If you don’t believe me, then go spend your hard earned dough and make your own opinion.

Skyline is what I hoped District 9 would have been. The effects were superb & Eric Balfour is eye candy (YUMM!) The only reason I gave it a 9 out of 10 was that I could care less about the party the night before. The aliens were not explained & there was no happy ending – PERFECT!

The second worst movie I have ever seen. this was one step worse than 2012.. thats saying something. There was no plot, terrible acting, no beginning, middle or end… I wasted 7 bucks to see this piece of garbage

THis movie was freaking awesome. A good throwback to alien invasion films of the 50′s. But made today. Of course. The action was really good too. And the ending was just like balfour said. NOT A HAPPY ENDING. I loved the ending very much that it reminded me something out of halo. The aliens were very different looking, and you still don’t know why they wanted to kill us all. Maybe in the 2nd one we’ll fine out. IDK why everybody is bitchin over this movie STFU already about the acting, and the script. It’s a fuckin b movie okay. There b actors. Their not like A actor’s here like tom cruise and johnny depp. I think they did pretty good. All thought the dialogue was very laughable in spots. But at least they mention to bring food and water when they tried escaping every other movie forgets to mention these things. Plus my fav actress played in it scottie thompson. But this is a good start to an alien invasion movie war, every movie from now to 2012 is going to be an alien movie no joke. Battle of LA looks sick as hell to. But what I thought skyline was goin to be was an epic all out action film with no character development but there was alot of character development. Yeah they characters sucked. But who cares. How long did you want to meet and greet them. In real life you would prob no these people for like 5 mins before getting ass raped by aliens. So if you love good old fashion invasion films with some cool effects, then this is for you. Deft paves the way for a much more much bigger SKYLINE 2. Which I will be in line for.

So go out and see it.

Had some cool parts and the aliens were different, but different in a good way. But for the most part was very lackluster to what I was expecting. They basically showed all the good parts in the trailer. And I really didn’t care about the characters, I was about to love the ending but then it ended so sudden I felt like I just wasted my time. If a sequel does come out, I’ll make sure to wait till it comes out on DVD next time. I recommend you watch it once when it comes out on DVD, but don’t waste your money going to see this in the movies.

ws an ok movie. only the main 2 characters were people u liked. they were the only ones who could act. I didnt like the ending. i wished it had of went off when eric balfour and scottie thompson were being pulled into the ship and they kissed on the way up. that would have been a better ending than eric balfour turning into an alien and than killing another one because he almost hurt his girlfriend. that was kinda fafetched. but besides that the action was good…i loved scottie thompson in this,,,,,and eric balfour was sexy as hell.

I don’t understand all the haters. Skyline was a really cool, enjoyable movie. It wasn’t very deep, but then again the premise was simple and was meant to keep you guessing about the bigger picture along with the characters. The FX were terrific, the story ws well-paced with great action. If you just go to watch and enjoy instead of analyzing every little thing, you’ll like the movie.

Very strange movie, loved the CGI but hated the story. The movie had no real direction, just an alien invasion and the cast trying to flee. It’s worth a watch on cable if you have nothing better to do, but wouldn’t recomend paying at the movies. As I said prety cool visuals and monsters, just wish they didn’t do the Sopranos ending.

LOVED!!! Totally agree with trey the movie man. I thought by trailer it would be good which is weird for me b/c I dont really get into the whole alien thing but WOW, this is my favorite alien flick (besides the Alien series) by far! It has so much action I thought my heart was gonna stop. And what was wrong with the characters. I loved Eric Balfour, Scotti Thompson, Donald Faison, and Brittany Daniel was great! She was a great bitch! lol

I dont really know why people are hating on this so much. What was so bad about it. So the acting wasnt so great but it really wasnt that bad either. The effects were great and it wasnt like a made for TV Sci-Fy movie. In my mind this was a fun rip-off of War of the Worlds. I thought it was worth the $7. What the do you expect from this movie..an Oscar. Forget the haters check it out. Fun popcorn flick.

The best way to describe Skyline, to me, is ‘ill-advised’. It had potential. I loved the trailer. I loved the visuals, in general. But man, were the characters and plot awful. I failed to care about any characters in the slightest, and the plot was filled with little unnecessary things that felt like they should have been resolved but never were.

I didn’t find it boring, I just found it illogical. I find it hard to believe that there was no one involved who read the script and was like ‘Seriously guys, can I fix some stuff here?’

So yeah. I like a film that I can switch off and just enjoy but this was just annoying at times.

Terrible does not even begin to scratch the surface. One part District 9 (Great film), one part Independence Day (Meh), and a touch of Cloverfield (!!!) in what seemed to be an awesome… TRAILER. Substance? None. Plot? Where?!

Do yourself a favor, save your money to buy Scott P (And if Skyline was your cup of tea I can assume you didn’t see it) or the Alien Trilogy.

    Wow so much hate…!!!
Loved the trailers and then heard bad reviews and people hating the ending etc…

    Well…………

After watching this film with a friend who had not seen the trailer we both loved it, and for me beats ID4 with silly characters and will smith and knocks over war of the worlds with those childern you wished had died.
This film had a good story ( i mean it is the end of the world ) some of the best aliens i have seen, loads more action on screen and in the background, like the F22s, marines and warships and of course the non hollywood ending… clever and yes this is one action alien invasion film which when leaving the cinema you mind will be racing, about the aliens, the tech and ideas etc.

How much acting do you need when the world is ending…!!!

I cannot wait for a blue ray release and finding out more about this film and yes i`m going to say the best action alien invasion film i have seen.

Foget the bad iron man 2 with no action, forget the new predator film….

All you fans of the movie are missing the point. This film is filled with every Hollywood cliche you can possibly cram into an hour and a half. It’s replete with annoying characters and their retarded melodrama. Us haters hate it BECAUSE they tried to come up with a story and make you care for the characters when, in actuality, all we want is for them to just hurry up and get abducted already because they’re so mindlessly cut and paste.

I’ll give it props for it’s small budget; the film does LOOK gorgeous at least. But aside from that, the only thing that really struck me was the ending. It was a cool idea that leaves the story open ended without making a sequel seem obvious.

The PG-13 rating also hurt it. I mean, people’s brains get ripped out of their heads and there’s not an ounce of blood? Seriously?

Derivative and lacking in likeable characters, this film doesn’t have an original idea in its head. It also reminded me throughout of much better films – war of the worlds/independence day/cloverfield. It’s trashy in a b-movie sense, and the fx are commendable given the budget constraints, but with a better script and characters, it could have been a guilty pleasure. As it is, it’s mostly just frustrating.

This movie started off very well. It had the right amount of action, suspense, and great special effects, but the ending was just borderline ridiculous. The movie itself was like a mix of Cloverfield, and War of the Worlds, but the ending was like a very cheesy 60′s sci-fi ending. Jarrod and his wife, Elaine go to L.A. for his friend Terry’s Birthday. Early the next morning, bright blue lights come from the sky and huge alien spaceships appear. If anybody looks directly into the light, they become entranced and burn their blood vessels. The aliens are stealing humans. Jarrod, Elaine, Terry and their friends try to survive. I would not recommend SKYLINE!!!

Yet another re-working of “The War of the Worlds”
Looks great and has some genuine heart stopping moments. But it does lack pace, and i would of liked a little more Gore. Overall not bad JJ!

A lot of people are definitley being way to harsh with film, it’s not perfect by any means, but it’s still a really fun sci-fi/action film, with excellent special effects. The filmmakers worked with what they had, the movie had a pretty low budget, and they delivered with they had to work with. I’m really looking foward to seeing what The Strause Brothers do next, because their 2 for 2 in my honest opinion, they gave me AVPR, which is one of my favorite films of all time, and Skyline delivered tons of cool action and awesome effects. I went in wanting to see aliens and action, and that’s exactly what I got. 7.5/10

Good old-fashioned alien flick. Some really nice touches. I was impressed with some of the cgi!

But the BD review is right – if it only had a story that you could give a krap about it could be a classic.

Like others have said – I will definitely keep an eye out for what these guys do next!

Brainless fun. Disagree with the 5, tried to grant it a seven but -screeech- couldnt, so gave it a six. I agree its plenty flawed but it was a good smooth scifi apocalyptic bad dream of an adventure for the most part, above the SyFy fare from tele. Takes off quick and well paced for the most part. Better than not.

This has got to be one of the worst alien invasion movies since plan 9, and not in a good way as that movie was. The only redeeming feature of this film is the aliens which look pretty awesome. But everything else is just a hopeless mess with cringe worthy acting and a ridiculous script.

I went into this expecting a turd and I was pleasantly surprised to find myself enjoying it. I love alien invasion movies and this wasn’t nearly as awful as everyone is making it out to be. I thought the acting was good and the effects were executed brilliantly. I still don’t understand how this got such negative reviews. I would definitely suggest this to alien fans.

My gosh, that movie sucks! If it wasn’t for the amazing special and visual effects, I would have easily given it a 1.
It’s beyond me why this wasn’t sent straight to video.

Well… like I mentioned, the effects are mindblowingly awesome. For only 10 million bucks the Strause Brothers created a terrific-looking armada of flying robot-aliens and “District 9″-like spaceships, many absolutely striking images (the opening scene, the arrival of the spaceships, the scene where all the people were sucked into the spaceships…) and a whole load of fast-paced and action-packed scenes with lots of great-looking CGI explosions. Also, the soundtrack is very effective and the camera work is quite ok.

Sadly, everything else about this Independence Day/War Of The Worlds rip-off is just bad, HORRIBLY bad: the acting ranges from lame to completely untalented, every single character is totally unlikable and the dialogue is entirely poor.
Furthermore, there’s hardly any tension or suspense, it’s full of things and scenes that are illogical or just don’t make any sense (f.e. nuclear explosions that cause nearly no harm, that guy in the street who shoots around with a machine gun…), and the really, REALLY awful script is just crammed with terrible plot holes, absurd plot points and unanswered questions (hardly any useful background information about the characters, hardly any explanation for the alien’s purpose…).
Worst of all: the outstandingly shitty ending. Me and the rest of the audience laughed our asses off because the ending is so incredibly silly and so indescribably pointless, it’s hard to believe.

Watch it only if you wanna see some great special effects.
Don’t watch it if you wanna see a good sci-fi flick.

An alien invasion has hit Earth and a small group of people must try and survive the attacks.

You know it’s never a good sign when you can sum up the plot of a movie in one short and clear sentence. Skyline caught my interest because the epic trailer shot of people getting sucked up by the light beam. The film itself doesn’t live up to the one single shot. It was marketed as a big tent pole blockbuster film, but in reality it’s a low budget flick disguised as a blockbuster. That’s why a lot of people hated it. Me on the other hand hated it because I thought it was a poorly constructed film all together.

The entire movie takes place at this one building, in and around it. So immediately the claustrophobic feel sets in when it should be more grander. Second, we are stuck in this small place with a bunch of characters that you don’t like. I wanted all of them to be sucked up by the alien light from the get go. Third, the film is full of stupid character mistakes that I wanted to have my brain sucked out and taken away by one of those things.

The reason for the aliens attacking is never stated, but we get a pretty clear indication when we go inside one of the ships and see what they are doing to the humans. Apparently, the want our brains so they can harvest more of their species. I’m okay with that. What I’m not okay with is the lame ending they decided to throw at us. Somehow, inexplicably, if you look at the light that is suppose to suck you away, you gain superpowers. Our main character looks at the light a bunch of times, but is saved at the last minute each time so he never gets taken. He gains this powers, which make him different. Then the ending hits and we are suppose to believe that somehow this one guy is different, just because of the light? Yawn.

The movie rips off every other alien flick it can think of. First of all, the aliens look like the martians from Independence Day. Second, the spaceships look like the sentinels from The Matrix. Third, the giant monster aliens look like they came right out of Starship Troopers. Does this movie do anything original? Nope.

I give credit the the directors, who financed the film themselves and did the special effects. Most of the budget….okay, 95% of the budget went towards the special effects. Next time, they need to write a good script and then do a second and third draft of it before they get all excited at what their imagination can cook up on a computer. Filmmaking is about story, if you have a good story, chances are you have a good film. If you have a film with a crappy story, but great special effects, chances are your film is still going to be crappy.

    Skyline is crappy.

I will say this though, my favourite part was when one character heroically decides to sacrifice himself to kill an alien and save the others. The camera decides to focus on a painting in the background of a Japanese Kamikaze pilot, I had a good laugh at that.

I think the reason a lot of people “hated” this movie was because of the way it was marketed to the public. Everyone was expecting a huge summer blockbuster film complete with over the top action sequences, drama, comedic relief and the like. You all are asking for too much, especially when you know that it is a low budget movie. The directors were trying to focus on the view of a group of survivors in the midst of an alien attack. Were you expecting a group of A-list actors to appear and save the day? I can’t change your opinion on Skyline, nor do I want to. But I think the movie was pretty damn good given the circumstances. I went into this film with low expectations (because of people like you) and found myself thoroughly entertained. I’ve read plenty of reviews and comments on this site about different movies and have seen that you guys rank some of crappiest films highly. So I guess that doing the opposite of what the average BD user does will benefit me.

I don’t care what everybody says this movie was great. The special effects were over the top and the ending was totally different than what you usually get with alien movies, I won’t give it away. The acting was excellent. If you don’t care for this kind of movie or the special fx don’t watch it and give it a bad rating. The aliens were horrifying and original. Considering I watched it for free on Netflix on my home theater there are no complaints, well except for the ending. Rent it!!!

Script is Terrible , Acting is laughable , FX are amazing.

I loved this film more then any Hollywood blockbuster, this year and last. Always been a fan of cheap b movie sci / horror movies from the 50s and this reminds me of one of them. Just totally silly and a joke.

The fact is after “PAYING” too see Thor and Captain America this was a better movie cos i know what im getting. A 90 min joke that laughs at itself.

I hope they make a 2nd and i would PAY to go and watch it cos on a budget that is 1% of all the other Hollywood trash i would rather support this.

  35. Posted By ushi on October 16, 2011 @ 3:45 am

It started out as a formula invasion SF inadvertently hilarious – then the fx took over and what a fantastic ride. I enjoyed it, but then I don’t like the usual Hollywood ending and this is NOT traditional. Great visuals but a shame they tried to sell the movie as a “story”.

Whether intended or not, a fun little B movie. The acting is flat out bad, but for some reason I found myself enjoying the movie. The story is as flat as can be, but the aliens are fun, and other than that schmaltzy bit of crap at the very end, I thought this was kind of a nasty movie actually. Loved when they actually got into the ship (except for the ascent part) because it was dark and I thought we were going to get away from a “happy” ending. The movie didn’t quite work, but I give them a hell of a lot of credit for trying. Don’t expect much and you won’t be disappointed.
